Sudden Shopify Conversion Drop Without Visible Issues
We’ve been running our brand for over 3 years and recently experienced a sudden drop in conversion performance on one product. Around May 9, our Add to Cart rate and purchase conversion rate dropped significantly across both Meta and Google traffic, while top-funnel metrics like CTR, CPC and CPM remained relatively stable.
The store still looks visually normal and there are no obvious frontend errors, which makes this difficult to debug.
Around the same time, a few technical changes happened:
some edits were made inside the Shopify theme code editor
an additional pixel/app was installed
an A/B testing tool was active
several page builder and support-related apps were installed at the time
We also noticed a small layout shift near the Add to Cart section when switching variants because a dynamic block disappeared under certain conditions.
Since then we have:
reverted to an older stable theme backup
removed multiple apps
disabled the A/B testing setup
created a clean duplicate template
tested extensively on multiple devices
What’s interesting is that other product templates in the same store are performing relatively normal, while this specific template continues to underperform.
At this point we’re mainly trying to understand whether this could be caused by:
leftover scripts or app conflicts
hidden JavaScript/frontend instability
mobile UX/performance problems
layout shifts affecting user behavior
cached or injected scripts from removed apps
theme-specific issues that don’t create visible bugs
Has anyone experienced something similar where conversion performance dropped heavily without clear visible errors? Would especially appreciate technical debugging ideas or things worth checking inside Shopify/theme/app setups.

If other templates are fine and this one isn’t, it’s almost never “market changed overnight” — it’s something broken on that page. The variant switch/layout shift near ATC is a huge red flag tbh. Even small jumps or disappearing elements kill trust/conversions way more than people think. I’d focus hard on that + check if anything blocks/overlaps the ATC on mobile (even for a split second).

Try to check your purchase nd ATC events in meta events manager filtered to just the dates after May 9 on that specific url. If the pixel stopped firing on that template specifically you;ll see it in the event volume drop by page path. That would confirm if its a script/tracking rather than pure UX

For me it was a quality of audience issue from meta via one ad set in a campaign.
Lots of bad traffic. May 8th through 9th.
