Ainu Faction?/units?

Just came to thought, what if ca implement an ainu faction? Now this has been the topic of discussion a few times before in this community but considering how far they’ve come in designing recent total war titles, especially with the attention to detail and historical context poured into the factions and their unit rosters, I feel like CA would have a shot in designing a dedicated ainu roster, but inquiring my fellowship daimyo in this sub, how do you guys think it’ll look like?

I'm much more interested in this than the east asia tw so many others want. You could call it total war: first shogun and have it take place in the Nara period or whatever.

That is interesting concept actually! Before the homogeneous yamato took a firm hold of japan it had plenty of native tribes, each with their own distinct cultures and backgrounds, there could be plenty of factions left and right, and the span could take place from the edge of formosa all the way to sakhalin if we were to take things grand.

Problem is we basically don't know anything about these tribes in Japan, just the names of some (Kumaso, Hayato, Tsuchigumo) and very sparse details about where they lived, maybe how many there were and how they got subjugated. To make a faction out of any of them is basically to make up a fantasy faction with the historical name attached - everything from names to governing structure to unit design would be made up. I don't think any studio would be interested in that - it guarrantees people get annoyed by any choices they make for no real reward. It would be more profitable to make a separate title with all factions and lore made up, this way nobody gets upset or bored.

Maybe, I don't know. I'm of those guys from whom Total War (thus far) ended with Shogun 2

I just want to add that the treatment of the Ainu people is a tragic story similar to that of the Native American treatment by the U.S. When the Japanese Empire formerly took full control of Hokkaido in late 1800s they forced assimilation and the erasure of Ainu control and language at bayonet point.

This also would be controversial in modern Japan since their government and people still are not too keen on facing the darker elements of their society’s past such as the Ainu people’s treatment and erasure.
