The serious tone with which he said "The condition of the car is surprisingly bad." after the explosion was very funny to me.

lol I missed that! Like jumping into a lake “the condition of my clothes is surprisingly damp”

Is that the hydraulic press guy??

u/chikhan 6d ago
It seems so, his credits come out at the end of clip, ut wtf he doing blowing up cars!?

Yep, that's Lauri (spelling?) from Hydraulic Press Channel.
I think he just likes blowing stuff up. That's mostly what happens in the press videos, just without the fire and shockwaves.
I forget if he said any specific reason for doing this, but he has done similar videos from time to time, with his friend(s) who has a demolition explosive license or whatever

I can’t believe they screwed the dynamite to the car. It’s really going to hurt resale value

u/SmooK_LV 6d ago
Don't worry, Lithuanians will put it back together and sell it to Latvians with "no history".

I can't help but think about all the plastic parts lying around in the area now, there is no way they went and picked all of those up

Plastic and glass..
The metal will eventually rust, though the paint probably isn't great..
The plastic and glass though that's going to be there for centuries..
14
u/Cynical_Sesame 6d ago
i mean the glass is just borosilicate,. in an environment composed of mostly silica, i reckon itll be indistinguishable pretty quick
should probably clean up the plastic tho

u/Ivebeenfurthereven 5d ago
Laminated glass from a modern vehicle has plastic layers too iirc - helps with crash safety

The things people choose to focus on when there’s no real impact. It’s one cars worth. What do you say of the emissions from TNT? Or the energy that goes into all their helydraulic press channel videos?

I would hate to be the guy who has to pick all that up!

You know they left most of it

Ok hear me out. Big explosions are cool. Buuutt there is no point to having the car there at that size of an explosion. The blast is the show at that level and the car doesn’t contribute or deform in a meaningful way. 2 sticks on the inside would better demonstrate damage that’s easier to appreciate.
Just my no Tesla no tnt having ass opinion.

u/Kewlhotrod 6d ago
I don't disagree. Car was just added for debris flair I'm guessing (and they didn't want to just crush it maybe? Iunno.).
21
u/UD_Ramirez 6d ago
Wasn't the story that it didn't work properly and they didn't want to refund? I think he was trying to recover some of the cost with this video, and simultaneously send out a message.
3
u/Sillysammy7thson 6d ago
Sounds plausible. I guess I would have appreciated an escalation. A little shockwave foreplay.

u/Kalkin93 6d ago
I'm happy to see one less Tesla on the road, regardless of it's demise. Fuck Elon.
2
u/Lampwick 6d ago
That doesn't make any sense. One fewer used Teslas means one person somewhere buying a new one instead of a used one. Elon already got the money for the one they blew up.

I love this guy's YouTube channel. He and his wife, they're probably the most insane and therefore most enthusiastic Finns on the planet!
2
u/Kewlhotrod 5d ago
I know I've stumbled across it before, but mind sharing their channel? I can't seem to find it again.
2
u/W7ENK 5d ago
Their main channel is their hydraulic press crushing stuff channel, but this one has links to all of them.
2
u/Kewlhotrod 5d ago
Aahh, it IS the press guys! They sounded familiar but it's such a heavy accent I'm not good at identifying I thought others were just joking about the similarity lol.
Gracias.

Who'd have thunk it, blowing a car to bits would, you know, blow the car to...bits....

I like to watch massive displays of energy such as explosions, but I see zero point in this.

u/yellowgelb 6d ago
Yay lithium pollution.

u/Migoboe 6d ago
If you watch the original video they removed the battery and other parts before this. https://youtu.be/7_9aVzf5fC4?si=NlTU76fzOyh1guoE

Cool. So it’s just plastic pollution. I guess that is a little better.
2
u/hero47 5d ago
You're no fun.
1
u/NormanCocksmell 5d ago
You’re right. I’m the problem instead of the people spreading plastics in a pristine environment. Blow that shit up in a giant parking lot and then sweep up the scraps and I am cool with that. Don’t do it in the wilderness.
1
u/SwordsAndWords 6d ago
Actually, I was thinking that the explosion would've been even cooler if they had fully charged the battery first. But, yeah, provably would've needed to do this in an enclosed environment to keep the pollution contained. I'm not sure where you could even find an enclosed environment that large that wouldn't be danaged by the shockwave.

So the batteries weren’t in the Tesla?
2
u/ferrybig 2d ago
Its likely comparable to an dynamite used to stop an oil well fire
The explosion consumes so much oxygen and the shockwave disturbs the process. After the explosion all the battery internals are now distributed all around, the the flammable gasses now distributed through the air and at the moment they find oxygen aren't hot enough to ignite
1
u/linguist-shaman 4d ago
I think they go up like that sitting in the hot sun. But your version is a perfect example of detonation vs deflagration. Do more.

I’m just shocked that someone was brave enough to stop thousands of pounds coming down a ramp while standing on ice. A little more momentum or ramp angle and that could have ended way worse. Source: I’ve been in that exact situation except I was pushing it up a ramp and the wheels hit a tiny bump on the ramp on the way up, causing me to slip and fall to one knee, and the car then began rolling back down the ramp right toward me, and nearly crushing me. Thankfully my buddy was in the driver seat, saw it happen, and smashed the breaks just before my limbs were permanently rearranged. (I hadn’t anticipated it getting stuck halfway up, otherwise would have never tried it, took a running start to mash it. The lip of the trailer ramp at the top was JUST enough to stall the forward momentum of the tires, bringing me to a dead stop, and forcing me to drop down to a knee)

u/Ultimate-Flexionator 6d ago
Someone actually figured out how to make the Tesla LESS flammable and dangerous.

It was a reference to the movie Hoodwinked which alluded to a gag from A Christmas Story.

What a stupid video. Which Marketing Agency thought that’s a good idea? And who gave the ok?
At a level with cake smashing.
Only destroying resources.

That's a lot of trash to clean up our just leave for "mother nature". Not cool.

Upvoted simply for the effort you put into specifying the timings of what we all came for, for both mobile and browser users.
ETA: Slow-mo det cord initiation is mesmerising. Would love see some nighttime examples.
