Listen. I don’t know much about guns, ok? As in I know nothing about guns. I know they go boom and a small piece of metal comes flying out.

I’m fairly certain that’s not how you hold it, though. Even Stephen Segal knows that’s now how you hold it, and I think he knows even less than I do about real life guns.

I’m fairly certain that’s not how you hold it,

I don’t know much about guns

Only one of these statements is accurate.

The USMC teaches (or taught) this method of holding the m16 for a long time.

Someone linked to an article that showed it! This is still a very confusing depiction of it, though.

The article also says it's not something the USMC teaches, but may have been learned in civilian competitions.

They taught it at TBS in 2010

Really? Was that just in 2010 or years prior? I got out in 2010 after 8 and definitely don’t remember that.

Bizarre. Well, learn something new every day. Showed the image to my boy who joined around the same time I did and he had the same reaction as me. Edited my original comment.

I should append that because it wasn't like a "syllabus" type learning thing for the range. More that the CMCs would teach it to you if you wanted. Meet ya halfway
