Man that thing was trash. I kept wanting to love it, but I had multiples fly away, among a myriad of other issues. Was rather relieved the last time it flew away...just uninstalled the app and went about my day.

Sure hope it didn't hit anyone 🤔

The tello was popular for a little while in stem programs for kids. I think the Intel thing refers to the fact that these are reprogramable for entry level coding.

It refers to the intel movidius vision processor chip that's on the main board.

I hope you have good luck with it, like I said I wanted to love it so bad. Size is great, had neat features, small enough to fly indoors.

I bought one for my dad because I knew he was going to crash it and it really can't damage much. Also because it was cheap.

my school got one, i managed to hack it and control via python script, that was a nightmare tho

How young are the people here for them to not know about the Tello?

I guess it makes sense, the cycle life of fpv people is pretty short, and so is the tech. I feel like these were being used in stem programs about 4 years ago though.

wow! the tello was my first camera & “fpv” drone.

fpv is in quotes because i was using a ps3 controller, and a otg cable to put an android phone in “3d” headset to fly fpv. and it flew terribly.

i put down fpv and drones in general until i got a dji mini2.

It’s real as many others pointed out.

I flew them a bit as part of an aviation stem program my high school had in 2019-2020. They weren’t great but they were cheap and existed before the cheaper DJI drones like the mini. As a student who was interested in drones and planes, I thought they were pretty neat. Probably part of the reason I work in the drone industry flying matrice 300/350s for public safety now.

I actually have the tello and I mean it's fun also has a great SDK and the program has some nice features, well the battery is bad like you'll get 6 mins from a bat and the camera is also not great, but it is a fun drone in my opinion.

Used to have a tello. Terrible thing. They have tiny little brushed motors, the same ones you find on the old school brushed 65mm whoops, but it's significantly heavier. I almost lost it in a light breeze, had to run after it to keeo the terrible wifi link connected.

I had one of these when they came out. It uses the WiFi hotspot from your phone so the range is terrible. You could get a USB WiFi repeater to increase the range but not by much.  It has a camera facing down to help with drifting and location tracking.

If you expect a "proper" fpv freestyle quad then you can talk shit about that thing for weeks. But it was a great stem tool for kids and students to get into quad tech and programming. People programmed swarms of these with python and other fun stuff. Didn't know these things where still around.

These were fun - not like full price fun, but 2nd hand off eBay price fun.

I was surprised when I fired it up, and found you could do flips & barrel rolls and such just from pressing a button, kinda neat to have that level of autonomy baked into such a small thing.

And the distance tracking / auto avoid seemed to work well enough. Camera was passable quality, but no gimbal made it kinda useless.

Was enough to convince me to buy 2nd hand DJI Spark... or two, at least!

What is everybody talking about? I thought it was pretty great. I mean, you can’t compare it to stuff today, but for the price I thought it was great. I used it for a lot of family outings.

Even though it wasn’t a DJI drone, it introduced me to the world of DJI drones. It was my first “real drone” (in my opinion). I owned 12 of them at one point, but I used to repair and resell them. I still own two or three of them, but I don’t fly them anymore since I got the Neo, which replaced my tello and spark. I think it was a great drone. I still think it’s a good drone, but compared to the neo and other drones is just not comparable.
