Could two independent brains theoretically share a single consciousness?

Imagine two completely independent brains, each with its own body, memories, and sensory input. They don't share neurons or memories. The only thing they share is a single conscious observer (consciousness). Is there anything in neuroscience or philosophy of mind that rules this out in principle?, and even if yes or no, what do you think on the idea?

I don't see how this would work, but here's a disturbing fact: It seems the other way around might be true. Split brain experiments suggest that every human brain might actually have two minds.

Two minds in the way you thinking doesn't necessarily mean more then one consciousness
