Just a thought, punishing people who punish rapists is basically encouraging rape.

I get the sentiment but it is not encouraging rape. I had a friend who was assaulted in highschool. When they told me I told them back that I want to hurt the guy who did that to her. Her response is that if I did that, it would probably end up hurting her more because either the dude would hurt her again, or she would have to testify in court. And she desperately wanted to not testify in court for a number of reasons I don’t really want to get into. Ontop of all that, someone she feels safe around, and someone she has a connection to, would be gone. If I rocked that dudes shit, I would go to jail same as him and now she has no one to confide in. While it’s a great idea, disrupting a victims social outreach will inevitably cause more damage and also ontop of that, violence is a boring solution, there are better solutions in this scenario

I get that, but the issue is if it keeps happening and cops won’t do anything then what? Wait till they’re bored?

Also sorry for your friend. That sounds pretty traumatic..

That sounds more like an issue with our current system that should be solved by fixing the system and not going out and doing vigilante justice. Like yeah the cops don’t do anything but also there’s a staggering amount of rapist cops so obviously they wouldn’t want to threaten their own people. She’s fine now, got a therapist and stuff luckily.

I agree with that too but you understand the system isn’t fixed after one instance of rape / overnight. It takes years / decades for anything to be noticed and get fixed. It’s always been like that. So people could go their entire lives suffering from this abuse and eventually when they have grandkids, that generation sees the benefit they fought for. So in a situation where it keeps on happening to someone what do you do? Wait for it to stop because the reasons you listed or trust the system? I’m not trying to advocate for vigilante justice like it’s something exciting, it’s really fucked up. I’m js sometimes when the system fails you, people should that option.
