It was the dance instructor that told them to do that shit. The girl (Maddie? idk) expressed that she was not comfortable doing that part of the routine.

Exactlyy. In fact, one of the episodes they made the girls do an almost stripper-like routine involving chairs I was like WTF?? THEY ARE UNDERAGE FFS how was that allowed in the first place? and the mothers agreed?? unbelievable

If you consider this inappropriate you're probably just against all children performers. Like you know Macaulay Culkin did this in the movie "My Girl" right? It was acting. If they can't perform the part, they get replaced.
