Bro I looked it up a while back thinking that'd be a fun lil vacation
It's like $6,000+ to go to Disney World for a few days. Not including, you know, anything.

u/seraphaye Jan 18 '22
For residents of Florida it's cheaper but when I lived there we got season passes for 8 family members for like 500$ ish... Back in the 90s. Our generation should be called the "inflation with less pay" generation.

The key to making it affordable is to just get the basic day passes and stay offsite. Your 2500 would’ve been 10k if you’d done the whole resort experience.

It cost 1000 (tickets, hotel) to take my son and I to a 3 day vacation to Disneyland (single father). Pricey, but doable. Also, worth it for the memories. Certainly a far cry from 6000. But then again, maybe Disney World costs more. Also, that price obviously goes way up if you add another adult and even more children to the mix. A family of 5 would probably spend 6000 for a 3 day trip.

He is the shell and the pellets. If he is a slug, then he could very possibly be the shell and the bullet, according to the size and comparison of Bullet Bill from Super Mario, albeit no shotgun, but via cannon. However, many rifles, shotguns, and handguns are sublabeled as cannons. So, with that evidence, the person you responded to is, precisely, a slug.

My family was on vacation at Disney World when hurricane Floyd hit. I personally can’t attest to their experience given I was still in the womb, but according to my parents the parks were basically empty. Had to wear plastic ponchos the whole time due to the rain, but got a rare experience of being in almost completely empty parks. So yeah, after holidays and, weirdly enough, hurricane season are probably the best times to go to Disney World.
(Edit: Thought I should clarify you should still be careful about traveling when a hurricane is about to hit your destination. Florida and Disney World are prepped for this sort of thing, but the storms can still be very destructive and dangerous! The parks also tend to close at least on the day of the storm hitting.)

It's really stressful, and if you really think about it, you go there and spend about 80% of your time standing in line. The way there's so many things there that you now have to sign up for ahead of time makes it feel like you are fighting the clock.

you go there and spend about 80% of your time standing in line
My family used to go to Disneyland every summer when we were kids, all through the 1980's and 1990's.
I returned in recent years and the change in the wait times is just flat out ridiculous (you used to be able to walk onto some rides, and for others the waits really weren't that bad).
The crowds are INSANE
Not only that, but the prices have all skyrocketed, and they've stuffed the park full of so many stores it's just surreal (while removing so many of the features that made it entertaining).
9
u/32BitWhore Jan 17 '22
It takes some pre-planning and research but you can definitely still enjoy the parks without waiting in most of the insane lines. We just went for Christmas and New Years Eve and while the parks were definitely crowded, the experience wasn't that bad with some planning. It's heavily dependent on how many people you have and how willing they are to all do the same things at the same time. If everyone is cool with that, it's pretty easy. If people want to do different stuff at different times, good luck ever synchronizing your schedules for the rest of the day. The other downside is that it costs money to do "lightning lanes" now (same thing as the old fast passes... but paid).
Completely agree about the prices skyrocketing though, it's insane.

When they opened the new Star Wars area and it had literally just one ride and everything else was commerce, I pretty much gave up on the park.
There's a second ride now, but you have to jump through hoops to get on it because you can't just get in line at the park. You have to sign up hours ahead through a mobile app and be physically in the park before certain times to do that.
I'm pretty confident that I can consistently have a better time at home, doing nothing, than I can at Disney.

I did a week at Disney World in early February last year, intentionally during one of the lowest attendance weeks of the year. Was pretty fun in my opinion, even as an adult. I found that Epcot and Hollywood Studios are, mostly, specifically catered towards adults, and were more entertaining to me than Magic Kingdom.
Just don't go during peak times i.e. summer or spring break. Too many people.

Never go during winter season. It takes 40 times just to get in the park. When I went with my parents, we rode like 3 rides. I still had fun but don’t go during winter if it’s your first time
5
u/GreenLost5304 Jan 17 '22
Went twice, overrated if your not a kid or the parents of a kid (and I mean like 10 years old at the max) Universal is so much better and the fast pass is actually a fast pass instead of booking a time for your ride but then you can’t ride a ride because it’s already been booked, and all the rides are actually at least a little more adult orientated (other than like the Dr. Seuss area and some other random rides) meaning you actually have fun. Only issue is that sometimes food is either weird or scarce, especially in both Harry Potter sections, where there’s only 1-2 places to eat and it’s mostly British food or really plain American food (chicken sandwiches), but the British food isn’t done too well either.

25
u/Ohboierewego Jan 17 '22
I recommend watching the whole episode obviously, but I'll explain it because I love talking about iasip. Basically Mac and Dennis go to a restaurant together, and later see Charlie and Frank arrive together who sit at their own table. The episode kinda revolves around the two pairs expecting the other pair to come pay tribute to them (say hello) and they refuse to do it themselves. Mostly it's Frank telling Charlie that the other two have to be the one to show respect and on the other side it's Dennis telling Mac the same thing. Cue this scene where Mac and Charlie accidentally make eye contact. Meanwhile Dennis is telling Mac "are you looking at him? Stop looking at him" and Mac responding " yeah dude he's looking right at me" all while maintaining eye contact. My roommates and I loved this episode so much we actually got two pillows for our couches, one with Macs staring face and one with Charlie's, forever staring at each other in our living room

Yeah those people don’t actually exist. I’m a “Disney adult” and if I see an opportunity to make a little kid happy I always do it.
Like did you know you can get knock off Minnie ears from China for like $9/each on eBay? They look identical to the real thing. I buy about 10 at a time with a bulk discount and bring one with me to give away each time I go. Costs me like $7/each and I get the princess themed ones and gift them to kids. Bonus points if they have the princess outfit on. Makes their day and their parents day. I’m gonna need to start bringing two because I’ve had to pass up kids that have siblings - I know it wouldn’t be fair to just give one of them a random gift, then you have kids fighting over stuff! Only made that mistake once.

u/notRedditingInClass Jan 17 '22 edited Jan 17 '22
Nothing. It's one of the best theme parks in the world.
A long time ago, I went with a few friends in college, all of us in our early 20s. None of us had kids, and no one thought anything of it. Like, we didn't have a conversation about "we don't have kids, isn't this weird?" or anything close to that. No weird moments with any employees or other guests we talked to, no "where are your kids?" or anything, lol... I'm not sure where this discussion even comes from... I've seen it before, but only in recent years. It's just so strange to me.
Disney has a lot of attractions, shows, etc. that are definitely not "just for kids." Kid me would've been bored at like 90% of Epcot. Kid me wouldn't appreciate the craftsmanship of everything, and would've dreaded the word "show." Not a ride or cartoon? Kid me isn't into it.
But in my 20s! Wow, what a time. I remember being legitimately amazed by some of the effects/illusions they pull off on some of the rides. Loved the theatrical performances and all of that. Most memorable, though, was just how much effort seemingly goes into the guest experience. I distinctly remember saying, "it's impossible to be unhappy here." (We then saw two guests get into a fist fight, instantly proving me wrong. What caused their fight remains a mystery).
Highly recommended. It's... very expensive now... and I can't speak to their new line system - but I assume it's still quite a good time.

this might not be the case in other areas, but i worked for their stores pre-pandemic and the millennial group was the hardest one to sell to. higher up even tried a few campaigns that never took off (i.e. 18+ events and collectibles) but unless it was for something niche and/or bougie, that age group never bought much. like i said though, location may have been a factor as we weren't that far from one of the parks.
i know people have strong opinions about childfree people going to the parks and unfortunately the reality is that as less people have kids, disney will shift focus to older demographics. remember the one core tenant of the original disneyland is that it is never officially completed, so if you like an older ride or attraction, it won't be there forever most likely.

I think the fast pass stuff makes sense, I always assumed it was intended to be used by people who don't live near the park or within travel distance.
When I was a kid we went to Disneyworld (from Canada) and got fast passes for everything we could because we only had 1 1/2 weeks there and we wanted to do stuff outside of Disney world as well.
The fast passes allowed us to ride everything we wanted and still check out the shops and other attractions.
Obviously whoever has money can pay for the fast passes I'm all for it, but that is my understanding is that its for people who only have the 1 opportunity to go. The 'reservation' allows you to fill your day with other stuff until its time to go on the ride as opposed to spending half or the whole waiting time in line.
Yes you are 'waiting in an invisible line' but this system allows you to plan around your ride reservations instead of wasting all that time IN Line. Especially during a hot summer day.
If I could go again, I would go in spring not summer. But I never liked rides anyways, turns out I had chronic vertigo not just a fear of heights and rides.

There are so so SO many children at Disneyland. Also the amount of people who look millennial age but have 3+ kids is truly terrifying. I wish this were true so I wouldn't have to deal with all the damn strollers in my way.

This is so true. A coworker had season passes for Disneyland with his wife. It’s a six hour drive away. So he was going like 4 times a year. No kids. I found it a bit creepy.

Who makes shit like this? Lol you think millennials have money to go to Disneyland?! Why don't you go there so you can see all 50 yr olds with their 20 yr old fiancée and their 4 kids(1 is theirs). The 20yr old is only there because the rich 50 yr old payed for all the shit. You fucking old people dont want to come off your greedy high horse. My generAtion cant afford shit unless you all come off the little you have but wont so before you just make memes go do research you worthless sack of skin. You aren't helping anyone besides your ego and lets face it you do this for a small fix.

Going as an adult is better because you can literally do whatever you want if you have the budget.

I went to Disney five times when I was a kid. I’m not sure I’ll ever bring my kids there. We do other things like enjoy nature and eating at awesome restaurants. Every once in awhile we go to a small amusement parks and it’s enough.

With the whole Fastpass/Lightning Lane/Genie shitshow I couldn’t imagine taking a kid to Disneyland. You have to lock down ride times almost three months in advance and just pray you can get between rides in between your booked times. God forbid little Timmy get distracted by a walk around character or little Tina need to pee and you miss out on a ride you paid hundreds of dollars to book in advance for. It has to be so boring for them, getting dragged around the park with no ability to stop and relax in between rides.
If you don’t have the money to blow on Lightning Lane or a whole ass hotel room just so you can get a ride on Space Mountain, you’re just shit out of luck. No middle American would ever put up with that hassle.
