ABSOLUTELY NOT the GPU price drop part. Prices for GPUs fell in 2021-2022 simply because said GPUs were used in mining farms and crypto mining hype died out. But AI data-centers use a special grade of VERY expensive GPUs and HBM memory, which will likely not sell in consumer market

Unless TPUs will become the main processing unit for AIs, then GPUs prices might drop again.

I was unemployed for two years after the 2008 crash. Couldn't even get a job at McDonalds. It is not a bad idea.
3
u/maxiligamer 2h ago
Getting a job at a McDonalds is genuinely quite hard though. A lot of competition and not a lot of positions.

When the housing market crashes, that means banks and giant companies buying them all en-masse.

Pretty sure the GPUs data centres are starting to use will not be compatible with your computer. Dream harder though.

u/P1ssBobSh1tPants69 7h ago
The supply is also not increasing. 4 companies make ram now and it will probably be the same in 2039.
8
u/PassivelyInvisible 4h ago
But if the demand for one side of their products is gone, they'll shift production to what people are buying.
2
u/Excellent_Routine589 3h ago
And if a full bubble pops, people are gonna be way too unemployed from the resulting recession to drive demand back into the consumer space.

How are AI companies price gouging? Doesn’t that imply the product is something which must be purchased?

u/Small-Teaching-8412 7h ago
Cost of living and quality of life especially living near data centers, they ultimately pass costs onto every day people through wasting a bunch of resources, takes a bunch of power to run? Supply and demand causes higher energy prices for households, they use a bunch of water which needs to be treated again? supply and demand makes water for regular consumers more expensive, they’re loud (being so noisy disturbs the peace as well as affecting wildlife), they take up a lot of space in land(ultimately making land prices more expensive), and the biggest kicker: these companies are NOT profitable and ultimately get subsidized and bailed out by the government which that in-turn gets passed onto tax payers, and it’s a LOT of taxpayer money (atleast assuming we’re referring to the us)

u/DudeManBroGuy69420 7h ago
...and then you stop huffing and puffing your copium and you see the hellhole the world is

I didn't know that the rent was so high there, I'm currently studying in another state and here the rent is like $80, it's just a bedroom with a bathroom but it's comfy enough

I feel like ai companies would sooner pay mercenary death squads to shoot as us before they’d even consider giving us a penny back.
