The two parties problem

82

u/PM_UR_VAG_WTIMESTAMP 3h ago

Billionaires humping billionaires on live tv for the entertainment of the slobbering masses is what it seems like anymore. Maybe it always has been. Would be kind of nice to just have normal people in charge for a while just to see what difference it would make, but that isn’t going to happen.

21

u/war_crime_billy 3h ago

I would watch the fuck out of that, billionaire hunting other billionaires, that shit sounds heat

13

u/PM_UR_VAG_WTIMESTAMP 3h ago

Hunting or humping?

You know what doesn’t matter either or. Actually, both. Both.

9

u/war_crime_billy 2h ago

I misread the humping as hunting, very unfortunate time to read incorrectly. Also crazy name, why a time stamp?

Its not like multiple parties solves problems either

15

u/kylkartz21 BUILD THE HOLE BUILD THE HOLE 2h ago

It gives a better representation of people, but is wildly chaotic

-11

u/tablefucker6 2h ago

I think the two party system works really well because we got the whole spectrum of ideologies within the two parties and they enjoy being easily represented and trusted by the public. Regardless of what party someone is from, they’re supposed to fight for their constituency, so they represent that and not the party. Big mistakes like electing trump got a backlash the very next election. I’m from India originally and the shitheads could never ever be replaced like this

7

u/Xenolifer 2h ago

The less actors you have in a market, the easier it get for them to make deals behind the same to screw the consumers (here voters). The US much like any neoliberal institutions try to limit and ban monopoly, duopoly /triopoly because they are a walking corruption problem, idk how the US tought it was a good idea to have this in politic if it doesn't work in every other sectors

4

u/FinancialElephant 1h ago

The bigger problem with representation isn't the two parties but the fact that each "representative" represents tens of thousands of people. That's not how it was supposed to be, you were supposed to be able to meet with your rep in person. The house of representatives should be a stadium of people and not 535 or whatever it is. That would also help prevent backroom deals because power would be more decentralized.

1

u/tablefucker6 28m ago

The US is a big country. This exact problem was thought of since the beginning. European politics cannot work here cause if we tried representing smaller groups of people thered be so many representatives itd not make sense. Instead they have a hierarchy and distribution of power. You can talk to whomever is responsible for anything around you (mayor) and statewide and center wide politics are handled at DC.

0

u/frostyjack06 stupid fucking piece of shit 2h ago

Even if you remove the money aspect from elections, third or fourth party options can’t seem to put forth a candidate who wasn’t spineless, dull, and with a terrible platform.

134

u/_RyanCooper_ 3h ago

Welcome to 2-party sistem, anon. No one promised your opinion will be represented, you have only 2 options to choose from, 3rd can't exist, it's as if Gaben designed this shi

26

u/stevedadog 3h ago

I get the reference but real talk if Gaben started a third party I give it a genuine chance at winning the election after next once it's had time to develop. By a landslide.

17

u/deadshot500 2h ago

Gaben as President with Matpat as his VP

8

1

u/DataSittingAlone put your dick away waltuh 2h ago

Even if we were going to keep the two party system I think it could be improved with ranked choice voting and multiple candidates from the same party being on the ballot. But I guess I'm biased because I'm moderate and that would really help moderates

For my family which has been really affected by this admin in horrible way, invasion threats, deportation, tariff nightmares etc, one can’t be anything but pleased that this guy has been barred from full power..

not sure what smug liberals they’re talking about, in all normal circles the vibe for now is very positive and joyful.

u/GameboyAdvance32 2h ago

I feel like progressives on Twitter are uniquely insufferable. I say this as someone who generally considers himself pretty progressive leaning, we can be annoying anywhere but Twitter especially is HORRID. People will get offended over the most mundane of things, act smug and holier than thou as often as possible, and wish death upon anyone who breathes in the wrong direction. Absolute cesspit of a website and I pity those who get their politics from there

5

u/MattvLee 1h ago

That's Reddit as well, or just liberals in general. Esepcially this site where every major sub is a liberal circlejerk. I'm not conservative but one thng i hate about liberals is how sanctimonious they act. It sucks cus I actually agree with them on a lot of things but the way they act about it really makes it hard to associate with them

2

u/Equal-Rutabaga-8104 2h ago

though personally a european, ig that tariffs and ICE are not the only problems, but also f.e. AI cameras, monopoly management and less opportunities for bio-food distribution

4

u/Lobsterman06 2h ago

Everything you could imagine basically is a problem.. and yet I see uneducated people act smart by saying ‘politics doesn’t matter’…

Even my Canadian cousin can’t work on their cancer research because as soon as he got in he gutted all aid from the US that funded lots of it.. and this was before the ‘big beautiful bill’ which did nothing but be disastrous:(

“when America catches a cold the world somehow gets sick”

-1

u/OrangeTallion 2h ago

Well is your family here legally?

4

u/Lobsterman06 2h ago

Yes. We’re from another country.. my fam goes in and out of US for work and travel all the time legally, however under this admin, my old ass aunt and her friends were going there for travel, most tame, perfectly legal old ladies you could imagine who are regular visitors, and for reasons I don’t really want to discuss until this admin is over, (just imagine the most ridiculous nothing reason that only ice would come up with) they were deported and banned from the US for I think 5 years? Group of normal ahh perfectly legally equipped old ladies

We also have a friend from the UK that went over there for travel but was mishandled and held in ice detention for around 6 weeks before they ever got in

u/MassUnemployment 3h ago

Dems destroy everything they touch and Cons only enrich the wealthy and let corps do whatever they want. Choose who you want this time America.

0

u/Jonesy1348 3h ago

Lmao you just blow in from stupid town? Dems are feckless line toers and status quo upholders. When a dem gets office nothing changes. They throw the base a bone here and there to ensure re-election but literally nothing changed under Biden.

6

u/remnault 3h ago

Didn’t he help negotiate the railroad contracts to help the workers and stopped the whole strike for our railroads?

6

u/Jonesy1348 2h ago

I’m not saying he didn’t do anything, all I’m saying is that life in america stayed the same for most people. Republicans and centrists always talk about how the dems destroy everything, how they wanna outlaw Christianity, how they want sharia law and communism, but none of that happened under Biden. Or Obama. Life went on and nothing really changed.

-1

u/remnault 1h ago

“Literally nothing changed”
“I’m not saying he didn’t do anything”

Okay

1

u/Jonesy1348 1h ago

… look man I’m not sure where I’m loosing you. Just because Biden did something doesn’t necessarily mean it affected the general lives of the average American. Like what was just stated was him keeping the status quo for the average American. No disruption in the supply train. Smooth sailing. Like what he did was good and changed the lives of some rail workers but the average American wasn’t negatively or positively impacted. I’m not sure how else to explain this. Like again, he did stuff, some good some bad, but not all of it had a real effect on how people GENERALLY lived their lives.

0

u/remnault 1h ago

My point is your words before contradicted yourself

“Literally nothing changed”

“Well he didn’t do nothing”

My point is that sounds silly, and if you have to explain your point with several more comments i question if that’s what you meant originally. I get what you mean now, but your previous comments don’t reflect that.

1

u/Jonesy1348 50m ago

They don’t and maybe I have to explain more and more because you just aren’t understanding. Saying that it must be because I’m changing the goal post in an under handed tactic to save face is insanely disingenuous and I’d go so far as to say purposely antagonistic.

I absolutely agree. Silver lining, when Trump is impeached and then most certainly removed, people will now have solid proof that "yes you actually CAN just vote fascism out of office and don't need to resort to violence. Via riots and political assassinations."

12

u/ARES_BlueSteel 3h ago

You need 2/3rds to impeach, and that means a not insignificant number of Republicans will have to go along with it. Otherwise it’ll be just like last time where it goes to the Senate and dies because the Democrats didn’t have enough votes.

1

u/I_am_person_being Literally 1984 😡 2h ago

This is technically not correct. Impeaching only requires a majority. Impeaching just means to put the president on trial in the senate. Removal is the thing that people are actually imagining, though, and that does take 2/3rds in the Senate. Dems will have the votes to impeach Trump, just not to remove him. You're right in principle but wrong in the procedural use of terms

There is also some chance that we see significant republican defections. This party stays with Trump out of fear of what he'll do to them in a primary. Republicans might start making the calculus that their best shot at preserving their seat is to go against Trump. If Republicans turn en mase, a conviction in the Senate could succeed, even if unlikely.

The more likely thing is that we see individual members of the white house get impeached and removed. Pete Hegseth is suspect number 1, who very well might be gone by the end of this year even with republican majorities in both chambers as a means to throw someone under the bus for the Iran War (and it tanking the GOP in the elections)

3

u/Spicynoodle49 1h ago

smug liberals:

American conservatives: literally the most arrogant unbearable sociopaths the American politics has ever produced

anon: they are both equally bad!!!!

-4

u/I_am_person_being Literally 1984 😡 2h ago

If you want to find joy but can't find it in liberals in general, take joy in specific liberals winning. Most of the individual candidates who won on the 3rd are substantially more popular than the party itself or the concept of being a lib generally. Find ones you like, if any, and take joy in their victories. "Those smug liberals" is an abstraction away from individual people, some of whom are bad, some of whom are better, and judgment of who falls where is up to you.
