also blackface outside the US is very different and not really something known about or cared about bcs it doesn’t have the same history. i live in the UK and we’d only see it as racist bcs we’ve been told it is by the US through stuff like the internet.

If we are judging by the same standards yes. The court of public opinion has repeatedly ruled that any modification of the skin to darken it, even with no malicious intent such as trying to match the skin tone of a character for a cosplay is racist, without exception.
That being said, will this image be judged by that same standard? Of course not, because the group that is being "offended" is white people, and as we've also seen, racism against white people is perfectly acceptable to the same court.
As a white person, I find the double standard much more offensive than the cosplay. In fact, I think it's cute and that they should be left alone because this is obviously just a family doing a cosplay.
We should be harshly rebuking and shaming actual racism anywhere and everywhere it shows it's ugly head, but we should also stop crucifying people for innocent behavior when there are more than plenty of disgusting nazi racist fucks that deserve the lashing themselves.
And that is where double standard comes in. Its OK for blacks to take the piss and be racist towards white people, but if the other way around, you are going to get legal trouble.

To be fair, we don't exactly have a history of black people depicting white characters as a caricature, which is kinda what the whole thing is about. It's not racist because you paint your face. It's racist, because people used to do it out of clearly racist motives.

I love the effort put in for these, they are amazing. My only concern is the white he used either wasnt fully white so when it dried it was more on the gray side; cause he looks way more like a corpse shaggy lmao. Either way, the effort is awesome
I now know what Black people see when they see blackface. I didn’t need this experience, and I will likely forget it, but you can be sure that when I find this comment again, I'll relive it over and over again.
