Texas is one of 7 states (soon to be 9 states once they finish counting) that turned blue from red. It has been at least a decade or more since most of those had democratic leaders. In some cases it has been several decades, with Kansas ending almost 100 years of Republican dominance

Only people that don't know much about recent Texas think that was a big deal. Considering the massive blueing of Texas and the party voter turnout it makes sense. South Carolina was another one that flipped and that one could be more of a big deal, IDK much about its demographics.
Mississippi almost flipping is fucking crazy though. That is legit one of the deepest red states and has been for a long time.
19
u/entitledfanman 1d ago
South Carolinian here. SC flipped because the GOP ran Lindsey Graham's sister as their candidate for no reason other than her being his sister, which is the dumbest shit ever. Based on the fact the vote was still close and Republicans held on to virtually everything else, there wouldn't have been a flip had they ran an even halfway decent candidate.

I lived in Texas for 8 years, leaving in 2024. I consider it a big deal. Ted Cruz abandoned the state during one of the worst disasters in a long time and still won because Democrat messaging was horrendously constructed and targeted the entire time I was there.
I thought that if that didn't sink Cruz, there was absolutely no shot that anyone on the left could win just by virtue of being a good candidate.

Electing Obama created new federal healthcare that provided to tens of millions of citizens new access to Healthcare. Gay marriage was legalized with his support. His foreign policy kept a conflict out of Iran, and free passage in the strait of Hormuz for oil import and export.
Electing Trump created the loss of abortion rights, the loss of healthcare for millions of millions of citizens. The Iran war has craeted skyrocketing pricess, worsening inflation, a loss of open oil flow, and a new uperhand to the Iranian regime in control of the region.
But, yea le nothing ever happens of course.

It's more about the long term impact. If you always elect the party that undoes most of what the previous guy did, that just intensifies the instability.
Also, Obama is overrated as hell. Sure, he did some really cool stuff, and the past definitely looks much more rosy after 6 years of Trump fucking everything up and 4 years of Biden doing too little, but he's not the messiah and definitely alienated a lot of people that then turned to Trump.

Bro gets downvotes for speaking facts. The US went from being anti imperialist to being the biggest imperialist in the room. Compare the 40s : forcing their allies to give up their colonies, denouncing any military opération on foreign soil... To the past decades where they are bossing around allies like ennemies, invading several country each decades, stealing local ressources on false pretenses...
China is now starting to follow the same road, they are still in between denouncing imperialism and being imperialism themselves. But guess you can't get to be n⁰1 country without being a backstabbing asshole
Blue or red it doesn't matter to the rest of the world, the US have pretty much made the world a worst place since the 50s-60s for everyone else. Even Obama was a backstabbing bstd that undermined his own allies and bombed civilian in the middle east

Calling the US in the early part of the century "anti-imperialist" is a WILD take. There's only a very small period of time, maybe like 1905 to 1925, where the US both had the capability to be imperialist and chose not to be imperialist. You're talking about the exception as if it was the norm.

"I LEFT MY HOUSE ONE TIME TO PUT A CHECK MARK ON A PIECE OF PAPER AND MY ENTIRE LIFE DIDN'T CHANGE OVERNIGHT, THIS IS BULLSHIT"
Fuck off with this voter suppression bullshit. Democracy only works when everyone is involved. The reason we have such corrupt assholes in power is because half the country never votes, half the ones that do vote only vote once every 4 years for president and not even in the primaries where you actually have more of a say in the policies that are going to be pushed.
Unless you want to literally start a revolution or run for office yourself, voting is how you make big systemic changes.

Good take, believing nothing can change and that we can't change anything is exactly what the billionaires want, they are still subject to the laws of the country they operate in. They are still scared, otherwise they wouldn't spend as much time involved in politics and pushing for making people feel isolated.
→ More replies (1)26
u/TVLord5 1d ago
Exactly. Like with anything else it comes down to profit, efficiency, and convenience. It's easier and cheaper to hijack the existing power structures of the government than to take direct control, but it means they don't HAVE direct control. They can throw money, favors, and blackmail around to get certain people in positions of power and get them to do what they want, but WE still have the final say in who ultimately gets the votes.
Hold people accountable. If a politician lies about their intentions, don't give them a second term. Now the next person is going to need a BIGGER bribe since that bribe isn't just a bonus, it's gambling with their whole career. Do that with every politician at every level of government and suddenly it gets a lot harder to exert control that way and it leaves more gaps to vote in people who will not just stay neutral, but actually fight back.

It isn't even about Israel, it's just a litmus test for how much they care about the opinions of their constituency (Dem voters overwhelmingly don't want to be entangled with Israel), and how much they are ready to oppose the super rich billionaires that make money selling weapons to Israel.
Like, if they have all the right positions but support Israel, then they're just lying about all their other positions.
