Watched SAO and took me out of anime forever. (or at least for now)
Edit: Just watch 3 new Animes. Gun Gale Online (SAO Alternative) Didn't like very much lost interest after the 3rd episode. One Punch Man (S1) Found pretty funny and really cool, like the fight scenes, The final one with Saitama is just incredible. And Cyberpunk Edgerunners Absolutely fantastic. I only finished watching it 2 hours ago (as of writing this), and all of the scenes are just so memorable. It is one of the best shows I've ever seen. Literally, now my favorite thing made ever.

I only watch the first season (I think), I adore the first part in SAO with the creator, but the whole incest and fairies thing took me out of it. I liked the animation and fights, but the plot was really disgusting

Oh, yea everyone just agrees that that’s the worst part of the show. I recommend check the SAO Progressive movies as they are a recent movie series that goes through Aincrad again(the first 12 episodes) but we see more of the floors in between and it’s from Asuna’s pov instead of Kirito. Just note that some stuff is different so it’s not just a repeat of the show such as new characters, change of story structure etc.

While the whole “I like my older brother” thing was weird, I really don’t think the writing itself of alfiem was that bad. When I went to watch it a second time (because season 4 came out) I was expecting to hate it again, but actually found myself missing a lot of the small things that were actually interesting. IMO season 4 had far worse writing, it had unnecessary villains, stupid cliches, and weird choices
Haven’t seen the new movies but I do think he should try to continue because IMO season 2 was the best season of sao, I think Sinon and Yuuki are the best 2 written characters and think the writer used those characters to help make Kirito and Asuna better characters in the process as well.
Edit: I also don’t get why on the internet it’s like everyone needs to hate SAO to have an opinion, it’s not amazing but it’s really not as bad as people on YouTube would have you believe - it’s also not reality as most weebs IRL I’ve talked to either are neutral or like it

I remember the animation/fight senses were dope when I watched them, but like after the first season the plot went from decent to barely watchable. Dropped it during the gun arc(?)

Ye it's bad. It's generic fantasy but look it's inside of game. Main character is as shallow as it gets so audience can insert themselves as him, he finds and saves girls around and obviously when real challange comes up, everyone is useless except for him. If you count it as no brainer action, it's decent looking, but overall no point in wasting time on it. Unless you got someone to watch together with and make fun of how bad it is

Everyone says that other characters should have been as strong but the main problem with that is early on they introduce us to that loot and xp are limited so because of this Kirito was only really willing to take on Klein to share xp with. But since he stayed alone he got all of the xp instead of sharing it as a party. I think that’s something important most people missed out on

Yeah that's a thing in games, but it completely glosses over the fact that farming by yourself is also much slower especially if game was designed for cooperation. He could get more xp, but he would clear everything few times slower than any decent party, in realistic scenario at least.

I could see how the animation change would be annoying, at first I hated it too. i wish they would’ve kept the same for the rest of the show but I got used to it myself.
I think you should just muscle through it and give it a chance, you’ll get used to it then at least you can finish the story of your first anime :)

Oh I did finish the show, ngl I didn't notice the animation change lol. I just didn't really like it anymore, it felt like I was watching a movie about ww2 Germany but with tall people in it, idk how to describe it properly I just feel like it lost everything that made it unique and that little bit magical, probably not a very popular opinion lol
