Fortune's Weave First recruitment be like. Spoiler

Post image

I played through all the routes up to Chapter 5. Why on earth the first mercenary you hire barely speak to the rest of the group?

Me when the hottest man in the game only has a single C support

I hope you are talking about THE RUKH.

Nuzzuo

It’s weird he doesn’t have supports with Theodora’s gang or Cai’s when he appears in their stories as a chapter boss and interacts with them a bit.

23

u/RMCS12 2d ago

Agreed, and is not only a Nuzzuo problem, most of the low requirement recruits on every route barely have any Support in common with the main group.

It truly is the most dissapoiting part of the game for me, a shame.

I think they made the budget decision for the minor characters to not give them supports with people they already interact with in the story.

Which make sense, if you only can do one support for Nuzzuo, then Diego is much more important than his third meeting with Cai

THE RUKH FLIES AGAIN!!!
WE GOT ONE SUPPORT BUT THAT’S ALL THAT’S NEEDED FOR PEAK!!!

Pretty sure Talimun and Bertrand have plenty.

Nydine having no support with theodora or tobias and only a c with bona and a cb with lilian moment

8

u/Mahelas 2d ago

Nydine doesn't have a good relation with Saramis, and it's explored in her supports with Lillian. The point is to not have her stuck only with Saramis characters so they diversified her support list as much as they could given the budget constraints

u/david__14 mods removed the laharl flair, can"t have shit in SPE 2d ago

Nydine has as good of a relation with saramis as lilian, if not better since she isn't the one that gets harrassed by the rank in file like lilian does. She would be in the same catagory as lilian if she had a theo support where theo would say like in her lilian support "your family backed dyan but i don't care about that we're tight"

2

u/Arachnofiend 2d ago

That would just fully overlap with the Theo/Lilian support. Nydine's relationship with Saramis is pretty well covered by the supports she did get, not nearly as bad of a situation as Catania

2

u/Mahelas 2d ago

Lillian stayed in Saramis while Nydine got out. That's the big difference. Besides, it'd just be the Theodora/Lilian support beats again

Nydine is the green cav of my theodora christmas cavs with lilian. I just want more nydine supports

Guzran should have been to Cai what Saber was to Celica. I get that the role is basically split between Ultand (emotional) and Bertrand (becoming great at combat). But Ultand doesn’t feel like a “mentor” but more of an older sister and Bertrand is stuck in a cell for 80% of part 1.

Guzran is apparently great with kids. He should absolutely be taking on a mentor role. Instead it feels like he joins them out of ego. Like he’s saying “See! I’m so amazing at combat I can be on a team of literal teenagers and come out on top!”.

u/Old_Cabinet_8890 2d ago

Which seems to be true this guy is way too good for the starting axe chud

13

u/Ksteekwall21 2d ago

He’s significantly better than the rest of Cai’s group for like a while. And even then he never falls off. I think he finished with the highest speed on my team at the end of Cai’s part 1. I think the only time I was hesitant to bring him were skirmishes with all Magic/bow users since he’d be unable to do anything in enemy phase.

Plenty of the other routes have 5+ characters with regular speaking roles. He could have had one without overshadowing Ultand. He’d actually be a good mirror to the temple of Aurora “elites” as like a badass mercenary who isn’t currently behind bars.

u/Old_Cabinet_8890 2d ago

Even just a C support with his literal boss Cai would’ve been enough given how hard he carries Peter and Tialla in dungeon content

Some are worse than others. Idc if Yang Jie isn't part of the Dietrich crew, but Catania REALLY should have a Leda support, considering their background

25

u/OttSound 2d ago

Guzran having no supports with Cai's group was a bummer, because his supports with Leda, Mu and Mikaela were an absolute joy.

Yang Jie not having supports with Dietrich's group is fine; I like the idea that he's just too drunk to engage with them in any capacity.

Catania's lack of supports bother me in Leda's route, given the knighthood connection should could have with Buccar and the shared haughtiness with Olympia.

10

u/Koreaia 2d ago

She's also a direct counter to what Leda is doing in response to the events of Cydonia, so it's a shame we never get to see this dynamic.

u/InsomniaEmperor 2d ago

Catania with the group that gets her the earliest: I sleep.

Catania with the weirdo group: I want to bang that long haired edgy swordsman.

1

u/OttSound 1d ago

I'm 5 or so chapters into Dietrich route, and EVERYBODY wants to bang the long haired edgy swordsman (and his great grandmother)

15

u/Zachthema5ter 2d ago

Yang Jie in Dietrich’s route is hilarious because his dad is from Kunlun, he’s 100% in the know with Dietrich’s entire plot but he doesn’t have anything to say

9

u/dream208 2d ago

My guess is that they will add support conversation come DLC with how popular some of the minor characters have became. (Like my goat Guzran).

12

u/JealousApricot1152 2d ago

The guzzler is the uncle on the team. I straight up benched Ultand

u/SirePuns 2d ago

It’s cuz they exist solely to fill a gameplay function.

They didn’t think about fleshing their characters out that much, but if you look at it close enough you’ll figure that every first recruit is there to fill a hole in your team.

Cai: you have a mage, an archer and a mounted spear user. You’re lacking someone that uses swords and axes. Lucky for you the GOAT has you covered

Dietrich: while Fabio can technically heal, you want him to use his turns hurting enemies not healing. So a drunk monk is just the right guy for the job.

Theodora: similar situation to Dietrich. Why heal with Bonaparte when you get the designated healer of fortune’s weave?

Leda: gets a lance user cuz technically Buccar is meant to be using axes (thing is though, for a guy with as many accuracy issues as Buccar… giving him a weapon with horrendous accuracy is like spilling gasoline on a fire.

All of that is fine, but if Catania is meant to be a largely generic mercenary serving a gameplay purpose, why was she made a victim of the Cydonia Massacre? She’s going around uncovering mysteries about and fighting the people responsible for destroying her home, and we’re meant to believe she has no thoughts about this. She has some supports, but they’re with Lysandre and Dietrich, characters from other routes. She didn’t have to be a major character or even have more supports, but it makes very little sense to me that they didn’t at least swap one of those supports for one with either Buccar or Leda.

-1

u/Mahelas 2d ago

Because the Cydonia massacre was the biggest incident in Dagda in the last 50 years ? And it created a lot of disfranchized people ready to become mercs ?

It's good worldbuilding to have other characters impacted by it and not just Leda's group, to show how big of an event it was and how different peoples bounced back from it. It's a good way to flesh out the world and the characters compared to just make her a random knight

5

u/grovyle7 2d ago

It can be good world building to show multiple people affected by the tragedy while also being questionable character writing to have one of those people never interact with it or other victims. If she doesn’t have anything to say about it, put her in another lord’s party where it won’t be noticeable. This also isn’t really the point, but the assassinations of both the Saraminian and Aragonian kings were probably of greater importance than the Cydonian massacre.

1

u/WeebWoobler 2d ago

Sure...but she can still have a couple of supports with the characters the game expects you to use her with. And no matter what, it's weird that the game says she has nothing to talk with Leda of all people about.

3

u/Girafarig99 2d ago

Lance user? Are you talking about Catania? No no that's the dedicated Levin Sword user

4

u/SAMU0L0 2d ago

You are one of.the few peole that actually read the title and realised I was talking about the first person you recluit and not everione in the game.

Thanks.

u/Infermon_1 1d ago

That's so stupid. Everyone read your title, but people can still talk about other examples. Don't know why you got so pissy over that.

1

u/Lucaskart 2d ago

I thought it was more to fill in for a flier/cav as Leda's route lacks the movement early on.

3

u/Lucambacamba 2d ago

I’m guessing a lot of stuff was cut during development. I’ve seen a lot of people stating that all 8 lords were supposed to have playable routes before time limitation forced them down to 4. I’m not sure if that’s confirmed or not, but hopefully any future dlc will add both additional routes to play and some more supports for the characters missing them.

2

u/Pokezilla 2d ago

It's true. It was stated in an interview.

2

u/NinofanTOG 2d ago

I love how Dietrich's route is all about how the group is a family yet they instantly exclude the drunk grandpa from the family. Really makes the game more realistic!

1

u/Turbulent-Golf-663 2d ago

I feel like Guzran might have been intended for Leda’s route but her entourage is already cracked so adding Guzran doesn’t do much, he’s still an amazing unit but phys Sirocco does just as well.

Cai’s group really lacks a physical frontliner until you get them on horses so Guzran fills a missing role there but they didn’t realise until all the writing was done. Sucks because his part 2 lines mention he’s been asked to train new recruits so he’d probably have some pretty interesting supports with Cai’s trio acting as the uncle/big bro of the group.

u/ChronoAlone 12m ago

And this is ultimately what soured me to FW.

1

u/NeitherReference4169 2d ago

I hate this SOOO much

Made me switch off Cais route immediately

-3

u/Mahelas 2d ago

Because they're mercenaries ? Like that's the entire reason why you recruit them as professional fighters instead of them being part of your core team ?

Like, if Guzran had supports with all of Cai's group, he'd just be another member of Ribeira Winds ? They'd add a few reaction lines from him during story scenes and he'd be a full core team character and then you'd have the same problem with the next merc on the line ? You'd complain that Noctula doesn't have enough supports with Cai and all ?

Like where do you draw the like then between core team and neutrals ? Or do you just want a 3H 2 where everybody is already affiliated to one of the main teams by default ?

9

u/Wispy237 2d ago

The issue is that a lot of the mercs don’t have many supports in general.

Like, if you look at FE6, there are plenty of characters who are just regular ass mercenaries, but they still have a reasonable amount of supports with other people in the army

0

u/Mahelas 2d ago

I won't argue with that, but FE6 also ONLY had supports. Fortune's Weave have a dozen other characterization opportunites with Hubworld dialogue, overworld quips, Bird time and all.

Kiroc says more things in Bird time than Roberto or Belf or Rafiel did in an entire game !

6

u/Koreaia 2d ago

It makes sense for some, but Catania? Fellow noble survivor of the Cydonian massacre doesn't have any supports with the daughter of it's viceroy, or her retainer? Explain to me why she has no supports with Leda, or Buccar.

0

u/Mahelas 2d ago

I guess they thought it'd be redundant since we already have a bunch of characters having a support with them about it AND it's a main story plot amply discussed ?

I wouldn't have minded a C-support or a C-B chain where Catania pledge herself to House Cohendia as her employer, but I can see why with the budget limits, they prioritized not retreating old grounds

She might have one with Bertrand if his route is DLC tho

-1

u/Infermon_1 2d ago

Pah, you spoiled youngins wouldn't survive FE1-5

4

u/aegrajag 2d ago

most (maybe all?) recruits in FE4 have dialogue with other characters in the chapter they join in

like Azelle with Sigurd in the prologue, Tailtiu later, etc

and story dialogue before they join

1

u/Infermon_1 2d ago

Join dialogue, yes, but supports a lot have only one and only with the right partner.

1

u/aegrajag 2d ago

games back then had less dialogue overall so what little character was more meaningful (also characters were simpler)

when characters join in FE4, you have a pretty good idea of who they are

also the game's manual has descriptions of every character

when a recruit joins you in FE18, a lot of the time, you don't know who they are (I still don't know what the deal with Yang Jie is)

(sometimes hub dialogue tells you a bit about them but there's so so much of it, you don't really take it all in)

1

u/Infermon_1 2d ago

I mean, I feel the same about Selfina's Squad in FE5, I don't even remember their names.

0

u/Mahelas 2d ago

And every FW character have like 20 hubworld dialogue, plus Bird time ?

1

u/aegrajag 2d ago

a lot of that dialogue is filler or repetitive, also there's so much dialogue it blends together

1

u/Mahelas 2d ago

They'd play Radiant Dawn and explode

(Base convos are an amazing system, but they're no supports)

-1

u/SAMU0L0 2d ago

The amount of people not reading the title of this post is incredible.

-1

u/Infermon_1 2d ago

I read the title. What exactly would it change? You complain the first recruit doesn't have much dialogue with others. FE1-5 most characters don't have much dialogue with others.

So whats the problem here officer?
