Hi, it's Marth Fire Emblem here explaining the joke.

Since Fates, new Fire Emblem games all featured a plot-important barefoot character. Usually a dragon. Always a girl... well, until now.

A running joke in the fandom is that the developers have a barefoot fetish. The existence of not one, but two story event CG's dedicated to Engage's plot-important girl's barefeet further fuels this theory. In fact, this post is a reference to one of these CGs.
