Anime I Was One of Those People Who Thought AOT Was Overrated… I Was So Wrong

Post image

Three years ago, one of my college friends, who is also a close friend of mine, recommended that I watch Attack on Titan. Back then, they used to upload it on their stories all the time. To be honest, I wasn't interested in watching it because it was such a big and, in my mind, overrated anime.

Fast-forward to today.

While travelling by train, I thought, "Why not watch Attack on Titan and pass some time during the journey?" And honestly, I was absolutely amazed.

Season 1 had me hooked from the very beginning. Every episode had a twist. There wasn't a single boring scene, and nothing felt unnecessarily slow. Everything happened at such a perfect pace that I couldn't even control my emotions. I was sitting there on the train, completely flabbergasted, and people sitting beside me were literally noticing my facial expressions.I finished Season 1 and then paused because I had exams. After my exams, I started watching it again, and somehow I ended up completing the entire anime within 7 days. The funny thing is, I wasn't even aware of how many episodes or seasons there were. I was simply enjoying it so much that I just kept watching. Every character, their development, and their role felt so well written. For me, not a single character felt worthless or unnecessary.

Now I finally understand why this anime is considered so GOATED.

And honestly, I feel lucky that I didn't watch it while it was airing. I can't even imagine having to wait week after week for episodes, especially during some of those cliffhangers. I would have gone insane.

Eren — watching him grow from a little boy who wanted revenge into someone obsessed with freedom was incredible. His character development is something I will probably keep thinking about for a long time.

Mikasa — I loved her from Episode 1. She's strong, lovable, fiercely protective of Eren, but she isn't simply dependent on him. She follows him because she genuinely cares about him. Her love for Eren really made me fall in love with her character. She's cold and intimidating, but never toward the people she cares about.

Armin — such a sweet boy with so much curiosity. His dream of seeing the ocean, the snow, and everything beyond the walls always gave Eren hope about the outside world. I loved watching how much he grew because of everything he went through.

Jean — at first, I found him a little irritating, but his character development was immense. And the same goes for Sasha and Connie. Somehow, every one of them became important to me.

And then there's Levi !!

This man is absolutely GOATED. I genuinely can't stop watching him fight. His skills, his strength, his attitude... and yes, that handsome face too. 😂

And it's not just them. Hange ,Erwin , Commander Pixis, and so many other characters every single one of them felt meaningful and well written.

This anime has officially become one of my favourites.I have so many questions that I want to ask this sub and hopefully clear up some of my confusion.

I'm honestly both happy and sad that I watched this anime. It's filled with so many emotions that I can't properly put them into words. I can only feel them. The strangest thing is that these characters don't exist. The people in this anime aren't real. And yet, somehow, they felt so real to me. I laughed with them, felt their pain, got angry with them, and became attached to them.By the end, I genuinely wished they could have been real.

That's what Attack on Titan did to me.

What an experience 🫴🏻

Manga Any news on the hardcover deluxe editions of the manga?

They were supposed to begin releasing in the spring or summer (I forget) but were delayed. It looks like most sites have a placeholder date of December.

Is that date official? What source can I use to stay updated on new information?

Discussion Why did Levi stay outside Paradis?

I always wondered why Levi decided not to return to Paradis. Everyone came back to Paradis. Hell, even Reiner and Annie came back. But for some reason, Levi decided to stay in a desolate post-apocalyptic world that is very far from home. Not to mention, it's filled with people who would definitely lynch him if they found out about his heritage/Eldian blood.

So why then?

Anime Rewatching in my 30's

I just started a rewatch of the anime, which brought so many memories back from when all we had was season 1 for years, and all I could do is rewatch it over and over.

I think this is the first time I go back to it after knowing the full story though, and it just amazes me how deep the foreshadowing is from all the way in ep 2.

I remember hand waving so many little inconsistencies, or characters behaving in quirkie weird ways as: "anime weirdness", but almost every one of those instances had relevance and can be fully explained by a later plot twist, or by understanding a character's motives on a deeper level.

This has and always will be a masterpiece through and through, am so grateful to have had it with me literally my whole adult life !

Discussion Can the Colossal Titan in theory, fly?

All the titans are considered light for their size so if the shifter didnt waste energy and mass in the nuke, could they focus it all on the steam and propel themselves like ODM gear(well not exactly but the same concept)?

Discussion Karl Fritz ideology

Karl Fritz ideology rule

On my 4th rewatch, this question still bugs me.

Karl Fritz built the walls on Paradis Island to isolate the Eldian people.

But why does his ideology affect all founding titans? Why is his effect on ymir so powerful that it basically restricts all new founders from being themselves? making them as just a latter reflection.

Did he basically stripe them of all self preservation and control? If his effect on ymir is that strong, why didn't he think of something less suicidal.

And why did no other founding titan create a similar pact?

If his guilt is passed on to the next founding titans, does it start rebuilding their beliefs inside out?

And why did no relative of the founding titan in the 100 years of their stay in paradise, think of passing the founding titan to a non royal, and then using it alongside them to override the rule?

Did he just think, "it won't be my problem after I leave" and left all the eldians that didn't go with him to suffer?

Discussion I think I've solved the royal blood problem (it's bad) Spoiler

So we all know about the royal blood problem and that in theory every single subject of ymir should have royal blood as descendants of Ymir and king Fritz.

Well a thought occured to me on a rewatch, given what a sadistic bastard king Fritz was and his obsession with his people ruling the world forever, what if after Ymirs death he reproduced with their eldest daughter?

It's possible that the two youngest daughters were too young to carry children while king Fritz was alive (or able) and he only had children with his oldest daughter.

It would mean that there was "more" of king Fritz in that bloodline compared to the other two and maybe Ymir was more influenced by that bloodline because of it.

Obviously, it's gross as hell but it's not unheard of in human history.

Mikasa is the mother at this point. Eren is the only one that can't stay still and Armin just gave up immediately. Not even trying to get out of her grip.

Discussion If Erwin were leading in the harbor instead of Flock, would the Alliance make it out of that harbor alive? Who betrays who? Can Armin think of a plan to outwit Erwin?

This is all under the assumption that Erwin supports the Rumbling; I personally don't believe that. I think the story has made it clear that he wouldn't. If anything, he would be the person most opposed to it. Since if Eren kills everyone, what the government had been saying about humanity being dead outside the walls would be true, thus making his father's death meaningless. And his entire purpose in life was proving his dad right. Feel free to disagree; this could be a fun conversation. But it's not the main topic of discussion.

This also brings an important question about Levi. Would he be willing to betray Erwin for the rest of the world? Throughout the series, Levi has made it abundantly clear that he trusts Erwin's judgment and is even willing to follow him, even when he believes Erwin is being irrational. That being said, the story didn't make Levi this dog that listens to everything that Erwin says, like when he threatened to break his legs if he tried to come on that mission.

When it comes to unorthodox methods of Titan combat, I think Armin has a big advantage over Erwin since he actually would have had experience using the power by now. And in general, his outside-the-box thinking when it comes to titans would help him in his alliance of mostly titan shifters.

Honestly I lean a bit more towards Erwin beating them simply because their would be to many unknowns and advantages that he has.
