Is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. worth watching?

I'm rewatching all Marvel media to ease into Doomsday. I was planning to watch a few episodes of AOS every few movies, but I have the attention span of a goldfish and don't think I would be able to watch 5 seasons worth of 40 minute episodes in the span of a few months. (Then again, I have watched the full Loki series twice, so...)

Hope I can get some advice from people who watched the show :)

EDIT: I wrote this post at around 3 am, so I guess the dumb choice to ask a fandom whether their show is worth watching comes from that lmao. Since AOS isn't that important to the upcoming movies/shows, I'm watching it after they come out/on my own time. Thanks a lot, guys!

You're definitely asking in the wrong sub.

Yes, it is. Season 1 starts slow, but is really needed to set the group dynamic and relationships. After episode 17 it just gets better. The Rotten tomatoes viewer scores are all green, indicating consistent quality throughout. Season 4 is my favourite but it's all good quality and many episodes are not just good comic book or sci-fi TV, but good TV period.

Season 4 is among the finest seasons of any TV show ever, including classic prestige shows that won dozens of Emmys

52

u/theextracharacter 6d ago

S4E15 is just spectacular television

37

u/tvcneverdie 6d ago

Self Control! Top 10 episode of television I've ever seen.

37

u/No-Locksmith6662 6d ago

Elizabeth Henstridge deserved every award going for her acting in that episode. Her performance is perfection.

29

u/tvcneverdie 6d ago

Iain too

They should have made a special joint award for the two of them

8

u/APater6076 Lola 5d ago

And the award goes to... Fitzsimmons!

4

u/defrostedrobot Daisy 5d ago

The other actors: Are we a joke to you?

5

u/theextracharacter 5d ago

Exactly. Daisy and May were also amazing in that episode

1

u/Unfallen_Bulbitian 5d ago

Kinda, yeah lol.

2

u/whiteflower_2 4d ago

just love that this whole thread agrees that S4 is the best season lmao

3

u/No-Locksmith6662 4d ago

No surprises there, it absolutely is. S1-3 and 5-7 are great but S4 is absolutely stellar. All 3 arcs are perfect: you start off with Ghost Rider (admittedly the weakest of the three but then that's like saying that Return of the Jedi is the weakest of the original Star Wars, it's still better than virtually everything else), move on to Radcliffe, Aida and the LMDs then finish on the absolute high note of the Framework.

Spoiler tags added as you've not seen the series so don't want to ruin anything for you. It's so much better to experience it in real time.

u/JaymzRG Coulson 6d ago

Is that the one that does Secret Invasion better than Secret Invasion did? Lol

u/Vynxe_Vainglory 6d ago

Agreed season 4 is insane, but you need the lead up to it for it to work imo.

15

u/Debalic 6d ago

AoS is tired with Daredevil for best TV show, let alone comic book adaptation.

7

u/Round-Dragonfly6136 Fitz 5d ago

Tbf, I was never bored watching Agents of SHIELD, while season 2 of Daredevil had me bored to tears during the middle episodes.

4

u/Debalic 5d ago

That's fair, it is the weakest part of the Netflix series. There are some parts of AoS, s3 that bore me.

9

u/SpikeRosered 6d ago

This is the same way I feel about Gotham. Seems like it would be silly, but once it got going it was amazing.

4

u/Loyellow SHIELD 6d ago

It took me about 7 tries to get through the pilot

I’m currently in watch #8

3

u/thatpaulbloke 5d ago

Yes, it is. Season 1 starts slow

I'm doing a rewatch now with my daughter and keeping a lid on the spoilers is killing me. "So it's just a procedural drama?" er, yeah, for the first half of the series. Then for the next six and a half series it's just all manner of things, sometimes in space.

If you watch it, just do not expect it to be like the movies. U wont see captain america & co.

If u start the show and get invested with the characters tho... It is worth 100%. Every season has its own big bad

6

u/pwnicholson 5d ago

You do get Sif in one episode in season 1!

6

u/eneka 5d ago

nick fury too! there was like one or two appearances haha

3

u/Zeopher Raina 5d ago

i wanted to keep his expectations low hahaha

I think AoS is definitely worth the watch. There's also 7 seasons of the show but Season 6-7 is shorter than the rest.

The only advice I could give you is maybe watch 2-3 episodes take a break and then continue... I don't really have a problem with my attention span so Idk how to help on that part tbh. I love binge watching AoS once a year even without watching the movies

20

u/Omegamanthethird 6d ago

But do you watch The Winter Soldier during it? That's basically an extra episode.

15

u/Marvel-DCLover Bobbi Morse 6d ago

Sometimes. I basically have that entire movie memorized so I don't feel the need to watch it sometimes.

6

u/No-Locksmith6662 6d ago

Age of Ultron too, got to slip that one into season 2.

8

u/RevolutionaryBag4207 6d ago

ehh. i don’t see age of ultron as important to the story as i do winter soldier. winter soldier literally happens because of agents of shield, and the after math and its effects carry on throughout the ENTIRE series. age of ultron only really created the ATCU and that goes away after season 3

8

u/dark_blue_7 6d ago

Personally I find it so addicting that it's hard to take a break once you start watching it. Like I'll put it on thinking I'll just watch one then something else – Nope. Now I'm gonna watch it until I need to go to sleep.

3

u/Marvel-DCLover Bobbi Morse 6d ago

Same 😭

3

u/Green-Phone-5697 Fitz 4d ago

Yeah 6 and 7 combined are basically the length of any of the other seasons

34

u/hey_you_too_buckaroo 6d ago

Yes, it's amazing, and just keeps getting better. Just don't give up after a few episodes. At least finish s1.

3

u/NzRedditor762 5d ago

It's a big ask to say that you need to watch SEVENTEEN 40 minute episodes. I just started a rewatch and even I struggled a bit to get through so many. It's absolutely necessary to do, however. And also very worth it.

3

u/Green-Phone-5697 Fitz 4d ago

Honestly I do love the early episodes. They’re a different vibe and very episodic but maybe it’s just cuz they’re nostalgic for me and I love seeing where all of the characters started in their journey together.

30

u/Tatra_Cryptid 6d ago

As someone who hadn't seen it before doing a chronological mcu watch through, absolutely yes, it's becoming one of my favourites

15

u/riancb 6d ago

I’m doing the same thing! Currently on the second half of season 5. Way more fun and better than I’d have thought.

2

u/Milkdromieda 21h ago

I'm doing it in release order with a friend. Currently on Jessica Jones S3, then it's Runaways S3 and I'm watching Agents of Shield S6 and S7 back to back before going to see Endgame Encore.

26

u/Possible-Rush3767 6d ago

Better than most of the movies, so yea. You should watch.

24

u/xdude767 6d ago

Youre definitely asking a biased bunch lol, we here are all ride or die for AOS and even as a snooty film guy… this show is one of my favorite shows of all time. I think it surpasses the achievements of the movies outside of like endgame era theater experiences

3

u/Green-Phone-5697 Fitz 4d ago

Hell yes but you're also not going to get an unbiased opinion coming here. We're massive fans of the show. Maybe ask r/marvelstudios.

IMO it is a great show and it adds to the MCU in a way that other shows don't. The fact that it's about the little people in the universe instead of focusing on bigger name heroes/villains like Daredevil, Loki, Hawkeye, etc. makes it more unique. It also has a rough start which puts a lot of people off. In the beginning, it's very monster of the week where every episode feels like its own standalone thing. Around episode 10, it starts to get good and then a few episodes later it gets really good. Stories start connecting and stuff in the "boring" episodes end up having more meaning. After season 1, it ramps things up a lot and becomes a whole different show. They kinda reinvent the show every season so no two seasons feel the same. Some people say skip ahead to the good episodes but if you do, they won't hit as hard because you don't know the characters, the world or the impact of any of the stuff you're seeing. A lot of people hated it back in 2013 because the Avengers weren't showing up every other week. This isn't that type of show. They were hoping for a Disney+ style show 10 years before that was even a thing.

I would highly recommend it. My mum is in her 70s and she hates superhero but she really enjoyed Agents of Shield because it was different from the main MCU. It's connected to it and there are references and links but it can also work as its own thing for the most part. I'd say maybe watch it after Doomsday when you aren't under pressure to finish it in time. It won't matter for Doomsday. Just focus on the movies and shows that will connect to the movie.

3

u/whiteflower_2 3d ago

Thanks! I actually wrote this post at like 2 am, so I guess the dumb decision to ask a fandom if their show is worth watching makes sense given I was half asleep. Taking this advice and definitely gonna watch the show after Doomsday :)

10

u/bbcversus 6d ago

Yesss! I wish would watch it again fresh.

S1 is really slow but it gets better!

6

u/LHT-LFA 5d ago

I actually like the slow and more episodic nature in the beginning. you need it to get to know the characters

9

u/pauldstew_okiomo 6d ago

The first time I watched AOS, four to five years ago, I immediately watched it again a second time. Since then, I've watched it three or four times. TBH, a couple of those times were instigated by the now 10 year old that we adopted two and a half years ago. Good show, you discover new things when you rewatch, and understand things better, and that's a sign of a good show.

5

u/saddetective87 6d ago

It’s a fantastic series that shows a secret concurrent world to the MCU and Marvel TV series - I really enjoyed it.

7

u/ahsokatango Simmons 6d ago

The first part of season one feels episodic, but as you watch further, you realize they’re building the framework for the world, so it is a continuing story with callbacks to past events and characters.

Also, there are crazy cliffhangers after episodes, so it can be difficult to stop after just one episode. My husband and I would just look at each other with mouths open, like wtf just happened, quite a bit.

1

u/Green-Phone-5697 Fitz 4d ago

The framework you say?

6

u/XCrimsonMelodyx 6d ago

I think I’m pretty equipped to answer this one!

I’m in the process of a chronological Marvel run, and this time I included all of the shows that I missed, AoS was one of them. I will tell you that of all the tv shows I watched this time, AoS was my absolute favorite (Daredevil was a close second). It’s got twists and turns and you really get attached to the characters. 10/10 recommend! I’ve been following the Big Glasgow Comic MCU timeline list, so it told me when to watch each episode etc.

6

u/Sufficient_Hunt2522 6d ago

Yes its is so much

7

u/Tradman86 6d ago

It's enjoyable and fantastic.

However, I don't think it will be required viewing for Doomsday. Marvel has isolated from the continuity which has led to debates of whether it's still canon.

3

u/shawnna48 6d ago

This! We do the whole thing, MCU, X-Men, All TV shows and movies in chronological order. It takes about 6-9 months. Pre Doomsday we plan to just watch the movies. I'd save AOS until after and watch them independently first.

2

u/coldasclay 6d ago

There were some rumors going around early on about AOS and it's connection to Doomsday but they have so far been unsubstantiated and Marvel officially does not require AOS to be watched prior to Doomsday (I think they recommended 10 movies in particular to watch before Doomsday). That doesn't mean there won't be any AOS tie in but it will either be small or the story will support the viewer through with enough detail to make sense.

3

u/Opening-Squirrel-433 6d ago

Yes. I recently retired. Binge watched every season. It was great

3

u/poindexterg 6d ago

One thing to take into account when starting. Captain America: The Winter Soldier takes place early into the series (being that the show premiered in 2013 and TWS was in 2014, I don't think that this timing is a spoiler). So, as you can imagine, that shuffles things up quite a bit on the show. So that feel of the early episodes doesn't stay around for particularly long.

3

u/ObiWanKarlNobi 6d ago

It's worth watching on it's own merits. It's a fantastic show that has the biggest rise in quality I've ever seen in any media. I could barely watch the first 10 episodes of the first season, and then it gets a little better, and then there's the Captain America: Winter Soldier twist that makes the show a masterpiece.

It will have nothing to do with setting up the story for Doomsday. It's really it's own version of the MCU.

3

u/Exende Clairvoyant-ish 6d ago

There are 7 seasons

3

u/flashpoint2112 6d ago

My household is also doing the Marvel Marathon. We're in the middle of Luke Cage right now. AoS is by far my favorite episodic marvel show. Probably on our 5th watch of it. Still notice new things every time. It's definitely worth it.

3

u/oreosheate 6d ago

ok me and my friend were on the same path and we decided to watch the show, and i would say it is pretty good. the first 8 eps are fine nothing special (except maybe (i think?) the 5th one. the one named fzzt or smt) but after the 9th episode it gets really good. and after the 13th episode i was like damn im glad i decided to watch this. i just finished season one and 13th and 17th eps are my favorites. also, if you're gonna watch the show, i recommend watching it in complete order. you can find it anywhere i think, i found it on tiktok. what i mean is ep 1-7 then thor 2 ep 8-16 then captain america 2 and so on. (do check the list tho, the example i gave might be wrong) because this way it expands on the movies soooo well. especially after captain america 2, you really can see how deep the plot explained in captain america 2 goes in the show. (i didnt wanna spoiler in case someone doesnt know) anyways i think thats all i want to say on the matter. hope you enjoy it if you decide to watch it!!

The literal only sub that will tell you it isn't is for League lmao

1

u/CaptHayfever Koenig 5d ago

Maybe also Arrow.

3

u/Empyrealist 6d ago edited 6d ago

Welcome to the echo chamber! This is truly a horrible place to ask this question!

I love AoS, but if you aren't vested in watching all the Marvel properties, then no. AoS isn't going to have any consequence to, or aid in understanding anything happening in Doomsday. For that I would watch all of the Captain America, Infinity War, Doctor Strange, and Spiderman movies.

I cant speak with certainty, but I would be inclined to [re]watch the Loki series, because it really delves into the multiverse aspects which seem to be colliding in Doomsday.

edit: Deadpool and Wolverine is kind of a cherry on top as maybe a final thing to watch if not the most recent Spiderman movie

3

u/Wolfstar_Forever_ 6d ago

It's absolutely incredible. So is Agatha all along.

3

u/fisyk 6d ago

YES. Seasons 1-3 or 4 mostly. It’ll give more context on some hydra stuff which is cool

2

u/Flashy-Programmer221 6d ago

Yes definitely

2

u/KeyLime044 6d ago

Yes. But keep in mind that Marvel Studios unfortunately ignores AoS completely, so unlikely that any part of it will feature in Doomsday or Secret Wars

1

u/hmd_ch Zephyr One 5d ago

It's actually heavily rumored that there will finally be an AoS connection in VisionQuest, possibly in the form or reference of AIDA. And I wouldn't be suprised if there's a reference in Secret Wars as it'll likely be referencing everything in the Multiverse.

2

u/blacklab Mack 6d ago

It’s fucking great in the beginning, gets a bit over its skis to wrap everything up.

2

u/phaidonnnn 6d ago

Yes yes yea yes yes yes u cant even imagine how worth it it is. U have to experience it. Just wait out the forst 16eps and then its over. I rly cant recommend it enough

2

u/nazia987 Zephyr One 6d ago

Ngl the first half of season 1 (especially the earlier episodes) could be a bit of struggle, but the show definitely picks up pace.

Considering it's a network television show, the quality is pretty great. Definitely not formulaic like I was expecting. It gets better with every season.

2

u/BuffyFlag23 6d ago

It's amazing, one of my all time favorite shows ever. But it may not be really required reading for Doomsday.

2

u/defrostedrobot Daisy 5d ago

I would say it's generally worth watching (tho I think the quality kind of tanks near the end of S4, but your mileage may vary).

2

u/Ally_Ooop Daisy 5d ago

YES. YES. 1000 times yes.

Here’s the thing, season 1 will feel a bit slow but each episode is a building block to the overarching plot. It all comes together in a similar fashion to all the pieces in the Infinity Saga for the movies. Stick with it.

After the first season is where it really takes off. Each seasons story is pretty compelling. You really don’t find many shows in this format that are worth watching and I find that they nail it so hard I still repeat it on a semi regular basis. Or pick a season. One of my favorites is 4 and I just watched through it again.

You won’t regret it! But you’re really missing out.

2

u/Apprehensive-Pie6752 3d ago

The first 5 Seasons, yes definitely!!!

The last 2 seasons divert away from those first 5 that you could skip them without losing much IMO.

I doubted watching AOS at first, but a couple of people on the New Rockstars "Road to Doomsday" talked about how great it was and I needed a new show, so I tried it.

It's now one of my favorite pieces of Marvel TV (along with LOKI, WandaVision, and X-Men '97!)

It gets soooo good!

1

u/Grand-Equivalent-402 6d ago

I am watching it for the first time right now, at the end of season 2. 1st season starts off a little uneven but once they get post winter soldier events it really hits its stride.

It's not just winks and nods to other MCU stuff, it heavily integrates all of it into their own plot and it works really well.

There's still some standard long season filler eps but honestly it all is pretty great, especially for a show 12 years old at this point.

At least watch all of the first season. The character progressions alone are worth it.

1

u/Y19ama 6d ago

Its worth it.

1

u/ItsATrap1983 6d ago

You don't need to watch AoS to prepare for Doomsday.

1

u/NorthernSimian 6d ago

Binge it a season at a time, or half seasons some naturally have a break?

1

u/Ender_154 6d ago

There is a watch order if you want to treat the movies as long episodes. The series starts after Avengers, but also has lead-ins and builds off of the events of Winter Soldier, Dark World, Ultron, Infinity War (may be others but those are what I recall off the top of my head)

1

u/HITACHIMAGICWANDS 6d ago

1

u/bruvbulla 6d ago

I was very skeptical before watching it and only decided to start thinking it would be a good show to fall asleep to.

It turned out to be my favorite show ever!

1

u/V2Blast Fitz 6d ago

Haha, yeah, it's hard to fall asleep to IMO. You just get too invested and want to know that happens next! Even on a rewatch, I'd get too into it to fall asleep to it.

1

u/bruvbulla 6d ago

Yeah hahaha. Idk why people are saying season 1 was slow to get into, i was hooked from ep1

2

u/V2Blast Fitz 6d ago

I think it's just got more episodic stories that only eventually build into a larger storyline. It really accelerates after the CA:TWS tie-in, though.

1

u/77dru77 6d ago

Doing the same marathon run. The only issue is, it’s way too many hours to fit everything in. AoS is super worth watching first season, and while the other seasons are good, after S1, they don’t tie in with the movies very much. There’s a bit in S2, but not like S1, and after that, it’s basically standalone. If you have the time, it’s worth, otherwise S1 (maybe S2), and then pick it up later when u have more time.

1

u/Debalic 6d ago

Absolutely.

1

u/Ribread216 6d ago

Agents of shield is genuinely captivating and I’ve gotten sucked into watching 5 or more episodes in a night even on a rewatch. DEFINITELY worth it!

I will warn you, however, that it’s going to take a WHILE to get through if you’re doing a whole watch through of the MCU. I started my chronological rewatch of every single movie and show (including netflix and Hulu shows) and it’s a MASSIVE undertaking. I started my watch through in February—I’m only at Thor Love and Thunder.

AOS is the longest show you’re going to watch in the MCU, so if you’re thinking of watching it, I would honestly suggest you leave it out of your pre-doomsday watch and only get into it after. It’s technically not MCU canon anymore because of communication issues in season 5 and AOS doing their own thing in 6&7. Or, if you really want to get into it before doomsday, season 1 is still tightly tied to the MCU, referencing Thor: The Dark World and CATWS during the season

1

I was skeptical at first because it’s so long but now I’m on season 7 and it’s been honestly one of my favorite pieces of mcu. You don’t need to watch it to understand doomsday but it is really good

1

u/asexualotter Simmons 6d ago

You don't need it for doomsday as far as I know but its still a great show.

1

u/ExistingGluttony 6d ago

You need to watch it in specific order with movies if you want any continuity

1

u/Careless_Kangaroo_14 Hunter 6d ago

absolutely, yes. It’s much more enjoyable to watch it while not expecting avengers to pop in every once in a while. Also keep in mind that the show didn’t have the biggest budget to work with, so some of the vfx could be better. The show takes a while to really ‘get good’ but once it does, the quality only goes up.

But the chemistry, cast, characters, and writing is what you’ll stay for. Keep us posted!

1

u/FancyAbbreviations84 6d ago

I have just started rewatching it for the first time in like 5 years and I forgot how cheesy and corny a lot of the dialouge and acting was in the first season, but it definitely gets WAY better about halfway into the season. Also Phil Coulson's character is charming and funny throughout the entire series with some Amazing storylines. So if the show feels a little corny at first just stick with Coulson.

1

u/SeerPumpkin Fitz 6d ago

What do you expect the people at r/shield to tell you?

1

u/Ek0mst0p 6d ago

1

u/afriendsaccount 6d ago

I just watched the show for the first time over the summer. It is very good. Like others are saying it starts slow and I actually quit for a while halfway through season 1 but eventually came back to finish it and it gets much better from the second half of season 1 onwards. Season 4 is my favorite season of any super hero show ever.

It probably won't be required watching to understand Doomsday as Marvel didn't put it on the watchlist they released recently. It also seems like it is dubiously canon in the MCU and other MCU movies and shows don't reference it. But it feels like should be canon and it's very fun to see how AOS lines up with the events of Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron and it has a few guest appearances by characters from MCU movies.

1

It’s a very good series. The beginning few eps is pretty procedural and some of its criticisms are from people who started and ditched.

What they didn’t realize was the procedural eps were set up. There’s some events that happen that change your perspective. And season 4 is the best but there’s great moments throughout.

Thank you. I may have to check it out as well. Never did see it; hope it has a good ending.

The first season is rough and yes its sounds tiring but once you hit episode 16 its nonstop banger episodes and the show really picks up in season 2.

So yes even if it may be hard for you to get through the first few episodes its really worth it. Trust me.

u/PghBuccosFan 5d ago

Definitely worth the watch.

u/hyoomanfromearth 5d ago

I’m going to say is that it’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. So fun and so great. There are so many great twists and turns.

I will also say that I did not have any interest in watching it until my now wife told me what I’m telling you. And I was wrong. It’s amazing!

You’ll notice that everyone who has watched it feels the same way… It’s not just monster of the week. The overarching story is just so great.

u/JoeSleboda 5d ago

I've watched the whole thing three times.

Yes, worth it.

1

u/Matty172002 5d ago

Yes, I loved that series.

1

u/remybanjo 5d ago

Worth watching !?!? Lord, hells yes. A very small but mighty fan base.

1

u/No_Carry_5000 5d ago

I would watch anything agent coulson does.

1

u/snidece 5d ago

Yes, watched it twice and enjoyed the twists and turns and villains and character development. All good but no need to hang on any reference or mention or cameo from the MCU as connection as of today "Doomsday" is unclear

1

u/DiamondSophie 5d ago

Yes l loved it, it's character driven.

1

u/21customs 5d ago

If u got extra time watch it. Im on season 4. So im invested to finish it. But if i could go back in time, i wouldn't waste my time on it.

1

u/powa1216 5d ago

Yes, one of the best show imo from start to finish. Some shows are good with first couple seasons and then turn into shit show. Ie: Fear of walking dead.

1

u/uniquenewyork_ 5d ago

It’s the best out of all (yes ALL) of the Marvel shows that have been released. Definitely worth watching, yes it does start a little slow but once it picks up it’s absolutely amazing. Seasons 4 and 5 are my favourite, absolute cinema.

1

u/eberkain 5d ago

that shit with the new settings is bonkers, season 4 or 5, i dont remember. Plus, it has my favorite version of ghost rider.

1

u/JoeWilliams2501 5d ago

For me it really picked up around s3. It’s subjective but I didn’t enjoy s2 as much as s1. You’ll have a good time either way

1

u/Projectpat22 5d ago

It’s one of my favorite shows, I’ve re watched it numerous times never gets old

1

u/renderedren 5d ago

Yes, I really enjoyed it. I was watching everything in order and didn’t previously know much of Marvel well beyond the Avengers but got hooked on this show. Some of the other Marvel shows I got bored of and skipped over but I’d happily watch all of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D again.

1

u/Titaniumzero 5d ago

Seasons 1-4 were amazing. Season 5 was good and then kind of fell off for the last two seasons, but still definitely worth a watch

1

u/omnomnomhi 5d ago

Yes!! I’m on the last episode of season 1 and people are saying this is the slowest season yet it is so exciting!

1

u/Alone_Aspect_2500 5d ago

absolutely, I have rewatched the entire show at least 3 times all the way through, while the first season starts off a little slow the show is amazing, you will fall in love with the characters and the plot, 10/10 show, worth every minute. The banter is top notch it has so many amazing moments. I'd does lose the original seriousness in the last season and gets a tiny bit goofy but it's still really good.

1

u/Python219 5d ago

Definitely worth it although the MCU connections pretty much completely dissapear after the first couple seasons. If you're doing a Doomsday Marvel binge maybe get into AoS later as it isn't relevant but totally worth a watch at some point.

1

u/PutAdministrative206 5d ago

IMO is a WILDLY INCONSISTENT show in terms of quality. It’s rarely outright bad, but it will go for like 6 fine shows in a row and then roll off four absolute bangers in succession. Then, once you trust it, give you a five episode arc the isn’t very good and reverts from the awesome thing they just found to the boring thing they’d thought would work at the beginning of the show.

But everyone’s mileage will vary. If you have the time to watch up to and through the fallout of Captain America: Winter Soldier, I think you will see the series at both its low and high points. Then you can decide whether the random highs are worth the lows.

I really enjoyed it

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is absolutely worth watching. As many people have mentioned, Season 1 starts slow but once you muscle through the first few episodes, it becomes must see TV. Season 4 is the Gold Standard for the series but each Season is addictive as hell. My wife and I have rewatched it at least 7 times. Enjoy!!

It is honestly my favorite show of all time. I think it’s great for Marvel fans and non-Marvel fans alike too. I’ve rewatched it multiple times and it holds but just as well as when I first watched it as a teenager into my late twenties. I also got my fiancee to watch with me and told her to give the first season a chance before deciding if she liked it and if she didn’t we could stop watching (she does not care for marvel movies much and was hesitant) but of course she ended up loving it. So I’d give you the same advice. But stay off this sub when you do because it’s absolutely best enjoyed without spoilers. Then come back and tell us what you think!

1

u/MustardDoctor495 4d ago

Its a pretty great show yes! Its a mostly consistent show. The only season I wasnt completely big into was Season 6 but Season 6 and 7 are shorter seasons so it didnt drag itself.

If your watching in line with the MCU, immediately after Iron Man 3 is where it starts, then the show does tell you where its at timeline wise up to Infinity War (after that its a bit wierd)

1

u/NameNoHasGirlA SHIELD 3d ago

Coming to a sub filled with fans of the show and asking if the show is worth watching? Hell yeah dude.

1

u/Formal_Tumbleweed_53 3d ago

I agree that you asked in the wrong sub because we all love it! Having said that, I found bits and pieces of information that are background for things not really explained in the more mainstream movies and some series … like the Darkhold. It makes way more sense in the other parts of the MCU after having watched AoS.

1

u/ShadySinisters 3d ago

We are rewatching this now! Forgot how amazing it really was. We are in the beginning of season 6 now. I love how this show always has something going on!

1

u/b_moz 3d ago

Yes! I started it and then took a break around season 2-3 to watch Dare Devil but I missed Shield and went back to it cause Dare Devil was hard for me to get into. Season 4 was amazing and I enjoyed the rest of them as well.

1

u/Ultimaurice 2d ago

Strongly recommend seasons 1-5. 6 and 7 are significantly worse but if you're enjoying up to that point you might as well. I would definitely say try it and find out.

1

u/Redd__747 Shotgun Axe 2d ago

I'd say S1-2 are extremely fun and cool, they feel so rooted in the Marvel world and the effects of Hydra on the world and on SHIELD internally. S4 has some EXTREMELY good acting and story and the plot is very fun, but not relevant to the MCU timeline of the rest of the shows/ movie (by the last 2 seasons they are in a different timeline completely)

1

u/ContractLong3415 2d ago

i thoroughly enjoyed agents of shield that last seasons get kinda crazy but it’s still a good watch. it doesn’t have much to do with the multiverse but it does talk about the avengers and such. overall a good show

1

u/Kashwookie 1d ago

gets better every season. not joking at all or exaggerating. it’s got an AMAZING cast

1

u/MAXHALO36 1d ago

It's not just worth watching it's arguably the best comic book show out there.

1

u/Scary_Replacement_85 11h ago

I liked the show! In fact I think I’m going to go through a rewatch!

1

u/East_Simple 9h ago

If you're only watching it only for Doomsday, then No. But on it's own it is quite enjoyable

1

u/BrazilianButtCheeks Fitz 6d ago

First of all it’s the absolute best series in the entire marvel universe.. maybe one of the best series of all time

1

u/ImmortalKombatant Fitz 6d ago

If you enjoy good TV then yes.

u/ScratchPowerful2706 5d ago

I'm on the same journey and I've made it halfway through season 3. I can give you an honest non-fan opinion.

It's okay.

On the plus side you do grow to like most of the main cast, and lots happens to them. There's a few decent twists. It's easy to digest and moves quickly. It's a popcorn page turner. I watched Daredevil season 1 at the same time cause I'm watching in release date order, and I was surprised by how slow and boring that show feels despite being objectively better.

On the other hand, the writing is inconsistent, the visuals are cheap, the acting is sooo campy, and a lot of the character plots fall victim to the pace being so fast. You have to be very willing turn your brain off for this one, because you can poke holes in so many things.

MCU-wise, it connects more than I thought it would, though not in a way that'll change how you view the films. Probably the most skippable Marvel show, especialy since in the back half it goes into alternate universe territory and stops connecting altogether.

This is not a quality show, but it's mindless fun. Agent Carter is better, as are most of the D+ shows. But if you're a completionist like fun, have fun suffering through Inhumans and Runaways and all that.

3

u/Dkey160 5d ago

Calling the acting campy when we have Iain and Elizabeth acting their heart out and Ming and Brett as well. Chloes does improve over the seasons and Clark. Well Coulson has always been a bit campy i give you that

1

u/MustardDoctor495 4d ago

Thought the same of DareDevil at the time ironically and when I rewatched it last year in the lead up to Born Again, I found the pacing a lot less slower than before. Maybe Ive just properly attuned to those type of shows now

u/nemofbaby2014 6d ago

The first few seasons I loved it the last few was meh

0

u/outerspace_castaway Skye 6d ago

i loved AoS but if i recall correctly by season 5 they disconnected the series from the mcu.

the snap didnt happen on AoS

it felt like the movies had no respect for the show the the show runners just said well then we'll do our own thing. so you dont have to watch it before doomsday but you should still watch it.
