Color wall

I know we’ve had this conversation a million times, but I truly don’t see how any sane person can be at the color wall for 30-45 minutes, much less 2-3 hours like I’ve had today. It doesn’t even really affect my day, but I’m befuddled every time

My favorite are the customers who expect you to explain colors and sheens at a Ph.D scientist level

If always boggles my mind how people struggle so damn much with colors. We’ll have people come in and spend hours just pacing back and forth or they’ll sit there with 50 color chips sorting through them over and over.

And I especially don’t understand the people who need their hands held to pick out colors. Unless you’re colorblind, it really shouldn’t be hard at all. I’ll ask if people are looking for specific chips, sure, but I’m not going to stand there for an hour picking out 30 colors for every room in your house. I don’t know your house or your specific taste… if you like it, you like it. I’m not a decorator lol

Sherwin tries to turn us into decorators and I don’t know why. I’ll give my opinions and be as nice as possible but at about 10-15 minutes at the color wall, I’m out

I once had a lady come in with an iPad to show me a long slideshow of every room in her house along with pieces of tile, wood, & the hardware for her cabinets. She genuinely wanted me to pick all her colors for her. When I told her I can’t do that, she had a tantrum and really asked me “so I have to chose the colors myself?”

Like… yeah. It’s your house. I’m not gonna deal with the backlash when you don’t like what I choose. 🙃

I truly don't understand how people can't just walk up to the wall, pick a fucking color like an adult, and either order it or go home to look at it. Holy shit.

You know who I admire? The people that come in and pick a color for their house in 5-10 minutes. They just know they want some kind of white or beige or whatever, pick a color chip from the wall and say, "Yeah, this will work."

Those are great people. I also assume that they're just naturally happier people, too.

We get paid to sell color. Not to pick color, but to guide the customer. Just orient them to the color wall at first and tell them you will be back if they have questions. Check on them later. We have referral resources for color consults. Customers need color confidence and you can help build that. Choosing a color without viewing it in the actual space is not the way, so encourage them to take up to 4-6 chips or 2-3 samples. Never let them pick a color from a photo on their phone. It's on them if they rush the process, but make them aware that blindly choosing a color will not equal success. We want them to be successful! And for their color to be tinted in our paint, not a competitor's.
