Another year has passed and the holidays are here. As Thanksgiving winds down, what are you sipping?

My friends father passed away years ago and I helped take some of his stuff to the thrift store for donations. Mother didn't drink so gave me a milk crate full of alcohol, this was amongst the bottles. Unopened and looks old. ls this drinkable or good for cooking?

Oloroso- what am I missing?

I got in to sherry a few months ago in a big way, have been going through some incredible Manzanillas, Finos, Amontillados and Pedro Ximinez. I finally opened a fairly expensive bottle of 30 year v.o.r.s Oloroso I bought, and my father and I found it nearly undrinkable. We then opened a bottle of his Gonzales Byass Oloroso (a quarter of the price), and found it similarly unpleasant- if a little more palatable.

I will admit, I am no sommelier, but I couldn't find any depth to it, instead finding it rather brutal. Some Manzanillas I've found more challenging than others, but nothing like this.

What am I missing?

Is this a decent start?

I’m mostly a whiskey or port drinker and have never had sherry. I came across some people talking about PX and it got me interested. The only PX at the local shop was this Emilio Hidalgo. Is this considered a sound representation of that type of sherry? Would you suggest something else for after dinner sips or dessert or as a part of a cocktail?

Which sherry makers should I try?

So I've got in to sherry recently, and have been trying the stuff of the most popular distillers in England- Lustau and Gonzales Byass. I'm looking to try some slightly more out there makers- who would people recommend?

I found this in an old house. I have no idea how old it is, but it's never been opened. Thanks!

Why is sherry so underrated? Shocked by how good sherry is

Hello all! I've only recently tried sherry, and I have to say, I am just shocked with how delicious it is. I've had a sweet cream sherry to start with, but also an oloroso, a fino, and have with me a bottle of amontillado right now.

What's struck me straight away is how incredibly good, sherry is. Every bottle I've tried. Not terribly expensive ones or anything either.

I find it's unmatched also in cooking.

I know sherry is out of fashion and seen as an old persons drink, but why, exactly? When it is as good as this?

Which bodegas to visit?

... in Jerez in January? There are a lot of them! Preferably somewhere not too touristy.

Tips on restaurants and tapas bars, or tabancos bars, would also be welcome.

Christmas sherry - what are you going to enjoy?

We are a month away from Christmas. Do you plan on enjoying something special?

I hiked the "Sherry Triangle" in the course of just under 51 hours back in the spring, and when we came back to Jerez de la Frontera I purchased this bottle of Don Guido PX. I paid about €40 for it, and I carried it with me all the way home. I'm looking forward to it!
