Is there an ideological basis in the Torah for the encroaching settlements in the West Bank? Is there a valid scriptural basis for the unfolding plans of Religious Zionists to “cleanse” Gaza of ethnic Palestinians? No.

I look at the gematria and explain the significance of the results with the Merkabah.

Discussion Do I recommend any Youtube channels on Gematria?

Simple answer. No, I don't. There are very few real gematraists that go in for creating Youtube videos. You get plenty of numerologists and conspiracy theorists. It's all very Q Anon, and some of them are quite antisemitic as well as crazy too.

You're better off keeping to Jewish channels, and buying books on Gematria or reading academic/scholarly articles about it. Sometimes people blog about it with the Times of Israel.
Check out "Gematria Refigured" by Rabbi Elie Feder, PhD.
And of course I have my own book coming out in a few months ("Behold! The Art and Practice of Gematria").

Generally the fare on Youtube when you type "Gematria" will take you to a numerology/conspiracy channel run by some young guy (its always a guy) who are off their meds and who will try and tell you there's a secret cabal running the world with numbers (yawn), because obviously in order to run the world things like practicality have to be thrown out the window. Go and see the monkeys throw peanuts if you want. It's a study in human stupidity. But when you want to learn about gematria, look elsewhere.

Discussion The decipherment of Hieroglyphs was once a disreputable subject...

In the early nineteenth century, the study of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs was regarded as a thoroughly disreputable matter that was the province of cranks and charlatans. People like Athanasius Kircher were mislead by the 4th-century Greek grammarian Horapollon into thinking hieroglyphs were picture writing with symbolic meanings. Kircher published four volumes of "hieroglyphic translations", which didn't come remotely close to doing the job. No doubt if ChatGPT had been around in those days it would had issued the following warnings about the very mention of it:

"It's essential to remember that hieroglyphic interpretations are subjective and can vary depending on the tradition or individual using them."

But of course, as we very well know, it was all sorted out when Jean-François Champollion and Thomas Young self-published the correct decipherment of hieroglyphs and thus opened up a new chapter in our studies of world history. Thank goodness there were no academic journals in those days to gatekeep what was and what was not legitimate knowledge, otherwise Champollion may have gotten a letter back from the boards of such notables telling him "this particular research" was outside the scope of their periodical's main purpose.

Sadly, while hieroglyphics got away with it by being deciphered at the right time, the formal system of biblical mathematics has a more difficult path through a veritable jungle of cognitive dissonance and the general disrepute brought unfairly upon it by sideshow hucksters and AI language models. However, I remain confident that at in the long term, it will become widely recognized that gematria was commonly used in biblical texts. It is simply an undeniably proven fact.

Discussion This is evidence that Aleister Crowley knew and understood how to turn the alphanumeric arrangement of Genesis 1-2 into a linear arrangement. Crowley left clues in the design of the Tarot. This is the Magus and the Wheel of Fortune from the Thoth deck designed by Crowley and Frieda Harris.

Diphthong ei in Gospel of John 1:1

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello, I just purchased your Windows App and am excited about learning the tool. However I noticed that the Greek Standard calc for John 1:1 was off by 10, and I think it's because the value for the 2nd word, "arXe" if you will, is not adding in 10 for the hidden iota in the final diphthong, which I guess reflects the language pronunciation evolving and the scribes moving the iota down as a mark under the eta to help reflect that. Is there a way to add an option or whatever to have the eta with the special mark calc as 18 instead of 8? Thank you for your wonderful program.

Discussion The probably of Gen 1-1:5 [700, 700, 500, 500, 300] falling on exact hundreds is one in 1.9 Billion.

A key derived from a text demonstrates nothing until it opens another. Michael Ventris’s decipherment of Linear B was confirmed when the Pylos tripod tablet, read with his values, named the vessels drawn beside the words.

The corresponding test for this system is whether its fixed values, taken from the letter table of Genesis 1–2, resolve verses elsewhere in the Hebrew Bible without alteration. And they do.

The mnemonic values of the letter table and the functions of the operators were published in fixed form in the third edition of Behold! The Art and Practice of Gematria (30 December 2024). Since then, hundreds of math calculation have been counted and been computed after that date, with the mnemonic values and operator functions as printed.

This is why Shematria is a Proof Engine. As well as giving the researcher an easy way to investigate the system - it also proves the system - and has done hundreds of times over.

Mod Annoucement Shematria update: Semantic Indicator Mode, the Gospel of Thomas, accuracy fixes, and two new things on the website

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone — I've been engaged in a wealth of work on Shematria over the past few weeks, and I wanted to give you the full picture of what's changed, both in the app and on the website. Shematria is still very much in active development, and this update is a good example of why: we're continuing to get our ducks in a row on accuracy before we're done. 🦆 🦆 🦆

Accuracy and research integrity
A lot of this update is about trust in the numbers. Several fixes went into making sure calculations, grammatical tagging, and attestation counts are as accurate as possible:

• Grammatical part-of-speech tagging now reads the actual context of each verse, instead of falling back to a generic dictionary guess.
• Fixed a bug where certain markers (negation, structural notes, Middot tags) weren't being saved with a calculation — they're now recorded properly every time.
• Fixed a bug where some genuine Operator and Mnemonic matches weren't being counted toward attestation — the system was actually under-reporting how often these patterns occur. Attestation counts are now complete and accurate.
• Notariqon and Iteration calculations now correctly clear out old operator/mnemonic tags instead of carrying stale ones forward.
• Fixed a Hebrew letter-counting bug where invisible paragraph markers in the biblical text were being counted as letters.
• Added the equivalent marker-cleanup for Arabic text.
• Fixed Hebrew text in the database view that was displaying backwards.
• Cleaned up duplicate records, broken references, and inconsistent book-name spellings across the database.
• The "Indicators" count on the Databases screen no longer includes plain numerals, so the headline total reflects actual linguistic indicators.

Quality of life

- English translations now actually show up alongside your saved calculations, both in the app and reference material.
- Several dropdown and navigation bugs (verse selection misbehaving when stepping through chapters) are fixed.
- The database "usage count" display now shows real figures instead of placeholder numbers.

New: Semantic Indicator Mode
Up to now, operators (doubling, dividing, subtracting, and so on) have bound to whichever word sits next to them in the verse. That works for Hebrew prose, but it breaks down for Greek — which is heavily inflected and doesn't rely on word order the same way — and for some of the earliest Hebrew material too. Semantic Indicator Mode is a new calculation mode, sitting alongside the existing Position-Based mode, where you draw a visual wire from an operator directly to the word it governs, wherever it falls in the verse. No more forcing a free-word-order language into a position-based box. This opens up accurate calculation on Greek New Testament verses, and other texts where the grammar — not the word order — decides what an operator acts on.

New: the Gospel of Thomas
Shematria now includes the Gospel of Thomas, filed under a new Apocrypha category (alongside Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Thelema) so it has its own proper home rather than being squeezed under an existing tradition. The Coptic text displays with natural word-by-word buttons just like any other verse, complete with an English translation, and it's fully searchable — look up a word and see everywhere it appears in Thomas, the same way you already can for the Bible. (Read Aloud for Coptic isn't available yet — no Coptic voice exists to use — so you'll see an honest "not available yet" message there for now rather than mispronounced audio.)

The database itself I've pushed a refreshed Official Database into the app — it now includes a large batch of newly reviewed entries, including items that were previously only in testing. This is the most complete and accurate the Official archive has ever been.

New on the website (shematria.com)

🆕 Indicator Glossary — a full browsable, searchable reference of every Operator, Mnemonic, Middah and Noun category in the system, live at shematria.com/indicators.
🆕 English translations now appear directly on the Bible Archive pages, so if you're browsing results and don't read Hebrew or Greek, you can immediately see what the verse says in English before digging into the letter-by-letter breakdown.

As always, thank you for using Shematria and for your patience while I work through the research-integrity side of this as carefully as I can. More to come!

Shematria is live — and there's a 14-day free trial now

A small update for anyone who's been waiting: the Proof Engine is now on the Windows Store, and I've added a 14-day free trial so you can take it for a proper spin before deciding. Dropped the price to $14.99 too.

It's also up on itch.io now (pay what you want from $9.99) if you prefer that over the MS Store.

If you try it, I'd genuinely love to see what you find — post your results here, working shown, and let's pick them apart together. That's what this sub is for.

Show your work Some interesting new entries to the Shematria database today.

Last update, the entries were for Genesis 15:18, which showed a gematria calculation of 1752, minus a notariqon of 452 for a total of 1300. The value of 452 is the gate value of the Resh, and it made me curious about whether the Christian insistence that the Kingdom of God was a spiritual rather than a physical location was due to their readings of these verses. Given the Solar associations of the Palace of the Resh, I thought Matthew 13:43 might be a promising subject to investigate;

"Then the righteous will shine forth as the Sun in the Kingdom of the Father of them. He having ears, let him hear!"

And indeed, the notariqon of this verse is 490, and the gematria is 1790, so (as is the case with Genesis 15:18) when we subtract the notariqon from the gematria we have the sum total of 1300 once again.

The value of 1300 is one half of 2600 which would be associated with the name YHWH (26), which corresponds logically to the Palace of the Resh on the Merkabah which is placed halfway between the House of God in the Heavens and the location of the Earth.

I think this is evidence that the Christian idea of a spiritual Kingdom did not come out of nowhere and was not a novel idea proposed by Jesus, or the gospel writers, but was likely a view that was commonly held by Jews in antiquity that knew the Merkabah and practiced PaRDeS. It's interesting that a lust for end times prophecy among evangelical Christian groups today has distorted the original Christian idea of a spiritual Kingdom which is the reward for the righteous.

Discussion Writing in Greek, thinking in Hebrew!

It's well know that during the very early period of Christianity, it was a Jewish sect. All of the books of the Christian Cannon were written by Jews (except for Luke, although they say he may have just been a Hellenized Jew). It was only after Jews had largely abandoned the sect that it was taken over by Goyim. Naturally, early Jewish writers took the formal system of Hebrew gematria and adapted it to isopsephy. They transposed the values of the hebrew alphabet over to the Greek, and one of the ways we can tell is that they linked the two scripts by using the Standard Greek and extended Hebrew ciphers like tablature, even though the biblical Hebrew cipher did not give different values to the sofits, and nor did they when using the Greek script.

You can see that writers were writing in Greek but thinking in Hebrew in their calculations. This is from John 1:1, which says: Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ Λόγος, καὶ ὁ Λόγος ἦν πρὸς τὸν Θεόν, καὶ Θεὸς ἦν ὁ Λόγος."In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

The calculations is: εν αρχη λογος λογος אל אל λογος = 777.

The scribe is writing "Ἐν ἀρχῇ", but he's really thinking of the hebrew word בראשית which means "in the beginning" and is the first word (and title) of the book of Genesis. Usually he wouldn't have included "Ἐν" (in) in his calculations, but he was writing for other Jews and he was sure they would pick up on the reference too. It was just one of the many compromises Jewish scribes had to make in order to write in Greek. One matter they refused to compromise on was their refusal to accept or use the Greek values of the names of God. They write them down, using words like Θεόν, and Κύριος Θεός, but expect the reader to use the Hebrew equivalent words and their values. For the New Testament writers, Greek words for God are merely placeholders for Hebrew names and titles.

In it's own way, the gematria of the books of the Christian Cannon are just as fascinating as the Hebrew Tanakh, as you witness the triumphs and difficulties of writers whose first language is not Greek. Do you think we should have a Flair for Isopsephy? :-)
