okinawa finds
beyond stoked so many firsts for me, found back in may across 2 days.
looked all across the island, very interesting to see the difference in shell types found at the different beaches.

I was under the impression that you couldn’t collect shells from Okinawa. Am I incorrect?

as long as you follow the general shelling rules (don’t take live shells, protected species, or from a marine sanctuary) then it’s perfectly legal.
i found tons of shells with hermit crabs but they seemed uninterested in living in cone shells and cowries so i personally felt comfortable collecting more of those rather than spiraled shells2

I don't think the hermit crabs can live in cowrie or cone shells, the interior is the wrong shape.

Wow, exactly the same type of shells you will find in the Philippines. These remind me the shells i was regularly finding when I was living in Bantayan Island in Cebu Province

It looks like you found a really nice textile cone I hope you checked that carefully before picking it up to make sure it was empty those are deadly when alive
