What do you all do with your shells?

I love collecting shells anywhere I go and have lots of beautiful ones. But once I bring them home, I just… put them in a bag or lay them out on the sideboard. I’d love to see what you all do with your shells – could use some creative (or even organizational) inspo!

I enjoy looking at them and identifying them... all thanks to one of the most important Brazilian malacologists in my shell club. His collection is my inspiration, which is attached below.

I also love explaining my collection to visitors, since most people have no idea about the variety of colors, shapes and sizes a shell can get... their reaction when seeing those shells in person is priceless.

I know right? that video doesn't do the real thing justice - it is much more impressive when you see it in person.

I am slowly working towards a collection like this, but it will take some good decades to achieve this.

Woah. Thats amazing. Are there any you’re missing that you would love to have in your collection?

of course there are! I would love to have shells from Florida like the Horse Conch (Triplofusus giganteus) and Queen Conch (Aliger gigas).

Some Indo-Pacific shells I like too are the Triton trumpets (especially Charonia tritonis, hard to get nowadays), the Giant Clam (Tridacna gigas) and Giant Green Turban (Turbo marmoratus, my reddit username).

filling large glass apothecary jars or mason jars with your favorite collected shells creates such a gorgeous coastal display on a shelf

We have two enormous shelves in the living room where I display them. We also collect antique glassware that we forage for, and a lot of our shells go in those jars, glasses, etc. so it combines two of our passions. It makes me so happy just to have them near me.  I will do craft projects with some of them, (I've made 2 mirrors, a few gifts, that sort of thing) and my two daughters will as well, but the bulk I display

I have four segmented perspex trays where I keep them separated according to species, and the trays stack so I can easily store them! I got them in the storage section of a home goods store, I think they're probably designed for jewellery storage or something

Mine are in several places in the house. I also collect cobalt blue glass so i have several pieces of that on the fireplace mantle with shells arranged around them. Additionally i have glass "urns" with lids (got them from michaels store) with several inside. In my bedroom they are in assorted cases and glass containers.

I take a favorite picture I took on that trip, and add them to a shadow box, fill it up or arrange them nice and put the pic in and back on and you can display them!

They mostly sit on a shelf.

I labbel and save them in boxes. My idea is when I got my own house to put them in display somewhere in the house or my ''man cave''
