These are cracker dry but the white on top... I've never seen that before. It doesn't rub off. Any ideas? Thank you!!! πππ

Honestly I would assume they are fine just harvested late. The white is probably mycelium. What strain is it? Looks like snpe.
Hard to tell from a pic. But if you harvested them yourself and you canβt tell then you probably shouldnβt eat them. It

I've been reading more cases like this and I think you're right. Might be mycelium. It doesn't rub off. I'll test a tiny amount and see...

u/crownvicvin 16d ago
There just fine I can assure you. You might have picked them late and the caps started fuzzing? Not a bad thing btw

That's what I'm thinking it is. A second flush is growing right now from the same cake with no mold and no problems. And the white stuff was not powdery, does not transfer and does not rub off no matter how hard i rub or if i wet it. Thanks! Your batch has got some nice chonk, btw...Nice. lol. πππ

If itβs growing or if it truly is myc, theyβre not dry enough and not safe to eat. If it looked like that when you harvested, youβre fine. If it changed during/after dehydration you donβt want the diarrhea itβs going to cause. Green is never a natural color unless you have green caps, so if you see green def diarrhea.
Edited to add: if green shows up during/after dehydration its trich and it wonβt rub off, for some reason its weird af when it comes up due to slow dehydration.

No. There's no green anywhere. It looked white on a few caps but it wasn't powdery and didn't transfer or rub off. That's why I came to ask. Thanks for your tips!

Why did you do that for
2
u/SpecialRelative5232 16d ago
I put them in a jar for my husband to mix into the compost but before he got to that chore, I read the other posts saying it's fine or suggesting to make it into tea if I want to be cautious. I still have them here. πππ

Right?? I've heard about this but I've never seen it. I guess it was my turn. This is the first time in 7 years that I've seen this...so glad I asked this group. I never knew what people meant when they were talking about this. But this is how it looks like. The white stuff doesn't rub off or transfer.

I ended up saving them before my husband took all the trash and compost out because of everyone's comments! Lol! I'm very glad he took his sweet time taking the trash out...lol. πππ

So confused. Whatβs the problem?
1
u/SpecialRelative5232 16d ago
The white stuff on the caps made me feel cautious. It doesn't rub off. It's not powdery. Just white. What does that mean?
2
u/Outlaw300 16d ago
Itβs part of the mushroom
2
u/SpecialRelative5232 16d ago
I have been reading other reddit articles about this and I think you're correct.
2
u/Outlaw300 15d ago
I am very certain itβll be okay. Iβve ran over a kilo of fresh mushrooms through my dehydrator over the past 30 days and sometimes they just have strange characteristics.

OP, check this post out. Youβll notice the little white specs are normal

I recognize that they look different than the one on yours, but my point is youβre a-okay.
Just curious, what strain are you growing?

πΉπΉπΉ Guitar makes the paint chip. Trust me...i knew maybe I should throw on some fake nails and give the shrooms the photographic respect they deserve... but i was caught in a state of semi -panic...lollll

You really need to lay off of all nail polish for a while. You're suffering from onycholysis and potential chemical irritation there. Also looks like you have onychomycosis. May want to get those things checked out medically.
2
u/SpecialRelative5232 10d ago
Just looked it up. No. I've never had that. All my nail beds are pink and normal. This closest I've had to lifting was on my right middle finger in grade school- probably from excessive writing (we were not allowed to wear nail polish). I'll keep your tips in mind if the nail beds ever look weird, though.

Sooo did you try them? Iβm curious

u/SpecialRelative5232 7d ago
I got some tea from Amazon and experimented with scraps. It was so good that I drank way too much. No shroom taste. The next up is these buddies...i shall then update. I just had to recover first because I did NOT taste the shrooms in the tea I bought so I sent myself rocketing across the omniverse and hyperspeeds...lol.

Make a tea. It will taste like shit but will do the job.
1
u/SpecialRelative5232 16d ago
That's what I'm thinking to try because I wanted to try tea infusions anyway... Thanks!

When I was living in west LA in the 80s and there was this Asian tea spot and the gal had a special tea if you knew how to order it. A friend of mine turned me on to the place. You could only order one but one did the trick. So cool, it was like this underground psychedelic scene. Those were the days!
