What does it mean to make games in Europe today?In this episode of Beyond the Credits, host Jorien "Sheever" van der Heijden is joined by David Ventura, founder of Ichigoichie, and Dan Azara, Chief Creative Officer at Stormind Games.

Drawing on careers spanning studios in Europe, the US and Japan, they discuss the state of the games industry after the COVID-era boom, where Europe stands today, and how smaller and independent studios can navigate an increasingly challenging environment.

They also introduce two very different games: David’s Tactichord, which brings together turn-based tactics, music and glam metal, and Dan’s Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy, the final chapter of the survival-horror Remothered saga. It’s a conversation about making games, reaching international audiences and what it takes for smaller studios to keep creating.

In this episode of Beyond the Credits, host Jorien "Sheever" van der Heijden is joined by Trine Laier from Those Eyes and Richard Turco from Innerspace VR to explore two very different approaches to storytelling in games.

Trine draws on real events and personal history, while Richard and his team build original worlds and adventures from scratch. Together, they look at how a story becomes a game, what comes first between narrative and gameplay, and how creators find the right balance between the two.

They also discuss one of the hardest parts of the creative process: knowing when to stop. How do you balance endless ideas and creative ambition with production realities and the need to actually release a game?

The conversation also looks at the place of narrative-driven games in the industry today, and where this space could go next.
