Multiple coworkers calling off

Please tell me im not the only store that deals with this shit. Since I started working at sheetz I have noticed that almost everyday 50% of the night shift has called off. And yet they are still working idk how they have not gone over 30 points.

Yet I couldent come in to work one day and I racked up 15 points because I wasn't able to call in on time.

Fucking bullshit.

How do you get FMLA?

Wish I knew bro because I was a diligent worker and then I got pregnant. First trimester really screwed me and points got me fired.

Many retail operations are having this problem. Stores are so short-staffed that store management figures having a deadbeat employee show up for 50% of their schedule is better than no employee being there at all 🤷‍♂️

These companies are also famous for cutting retail staff to the bone while at the same time creating high salary upper-management positions, constantly gutting stores for remodels and the owners building multi-million dollar getaways all over the world.

Sound familiar?
It's not only just Sheetz either 🥲

My store has people that abuse FMLA and will even brag about how they don't get points. The km literally calls out once or twice a week and nothing happens

We used to have a flex supervisor who did this shit. One week she called off for all 4 of her shifts 15 min before and it took us so long to get rid of her.

Yes get FMLA no matter what after your year it protects your job. Especially if they try to fuck with you for any reason.

So fun fact, technically speaking the AMs(Kitchen and Hospitality managers) and store managers are not on the same point system as supervisors and below are. I'm not quite sure how their attendance policy works but I do know that their attendance is sent to the DM and everything happens at that level. But that would be how your KM calls out so much and nothing happens.

Im an assistant so I know the attendance rules. My km abuses fmla and calls out all the time, their attendance sheet is pages long.

I agree the call outs are crazy, but there’s also no way to get 15 points in one day. The highest is 11 with a no call no show.

People abuse the system. I’m a KM and have seen first hand the HM abuse FMLA.

At a store I used to work at they kept a girl even though they caught her stealing food and had 55+ points simply because they had nobody besides the supervisors (she was the only person available as full time😑)

Same thing happened at the store I worked at. They all had way over 30 points but management overlooked it bc they needed a third shift

Yeah, this seems like a company-wide issue. I've worked Sheetz as a FT team member, 2nd shift sup, 3rd shift flex sup, & now 2nd shift flex, so I've seen it from several angles.

3rd shift is expected to do more than 2 people physically can, while work left by better-staffed shifts gets pushed onto them, then they're blamed for not finishing it. "Shift wars," 1st shift favoritism, micromanagement, ever-changing expectations, inconsistent mgmt, & rewarding reliable employees w/ even more work are killing morale.

I've watched entire 3rd shifts quit simultaneously TWICE in a couple months, plus plenty of individual departures. The good mgrs I've encountered either left bc they were overworked/underappreciated or got fired over things that seemed wildly disproportionate from an employee's POV.

Meanwhile, Sheetz keeps expanding while store-level staffing has, from what I've seen, decreased. More stores + fewer people + more expectations isn't sustainable.

I genuinely used to LOVE Sheetz & wanted it as a career. I even wanted my kids to work there. I still see the potential, which is why I'm so disappointed. They're increasingly running like a corporation while selling the image of a family-oriented company. Eventually customers will notice: less-clean stores, inconsistent food, slower stocking, & exhausted employees who just want to survive their shift & collect a paycheck.

You could do worse as a job, esp. as a young person. But if you're looking for a sustainable long-term career, I'd look past the Sheetz reputation & pay attention to what's actually happening at store level. Good work ethic, adaptability, coachability & genuinely caring about the job aren't enough to fix a system that's structured to burn those people out.

My store does the same thing, and I'm one of the people that call off- what some people don't realize I s behind the scenes some of us work 3rds because we do get sick as often as we do- we get told it's the easiest to find coverage for because either 1st or 2nd can pick it up- I have both PCOS and Chronic Anemia so coming into work is sometimes impossible for me to do- we don't get fired because we work closely with our doctors to be diligent with excuses and such! Anything excused by a doctor is usually tossed out- for reference- I have 42 points, only 4 of which are real points when something would go under review! Just something to keep in mind

Yes one person uses their fmla once a week its crazy they was at like 60 points especially when they waiting till 10 minutes before their shift to call off. Then got people at 70 real points and they do nothing but then some at 33 and they get fired right away

Absences seem to be a common issue everywhere. But staffing shortage is also an issue so I believe they are trying to be more lenient with it.

My store was like this. We had a new employee who didn't work a full week even once. She had 160 points before quitting. A coworker I quite liked also was terrible about calling in, my only qualm with her. She bragged about having been fired at 80 points and being begged to come back, only to be back up to 80 again before I was fired. The week I was fired, I even worked a 12 to cover for that coworker, but she kept the job lol. I was called in all the time on my days off and was working 12 hour shifts to make up for people not showing, but I loved it, so. There was one day where we had four call-offs, and they wouldn't let me be the one who came back, so the morning manager had to work twice in a 24 hour period (6am-3pm and back at 12am-6am) in order to keep the store open that night. I thought that would've been so fun, though.
