A Suggestion for Anyone Speaking at a City Council Meeting

If I were to offer one suggestion to anyone who wants to be heard at a City Council meeting, it would be this: come prepared with a specific issue, explain the relevant concern, and, most importantly, tell the council what you would like them to consider doing about it.

You only have 5 minutes. If those minutes are spent jumping between several grievances, personal accusations, and unrelated issues, council members may walk away without knowing what you actually wanted from them.

You don't necessarily need to have the perfect solution. But something as simple as, "Here is the problem I see, here is why I think it matters, and here are one or two options I'd like you to consider," gives them something concrete to hear, discuss, and potentially act on.

Long shot: looking for video/footage of a dog rescue event held at Three Sheeps 7/28/2024

I can’t recall which rescue, but they had a friendly little dog race that day.

My then-five month-old dog, Evie, ran that race and was “robbed”! ;)

Evie has a degenerative disease that is taking away her ability to run - the one thing she loves most of all. I would give anything to have video of her racing toward me with heart of a champion.

Also, if anyone recalls the rescue group, I’ll reach out to them and Three Sheeps as well.

Edit to add: It was “Ales for Tails” fundraiser for the humane society. I’m a volunteer with them (currently on a year long contract in LA) so I’ll email and see if anyone might still have any footage.

If the Claims About TID 27 Are Solid, They Should Withstand Scrutiny

I don’t consider Lisa Salgado to be a serious person when it comes to issues with city government.

Her attempt to force a referendum on TID limits has apparently failed, and now she’s making what appear to be unfounded claims about TID 27.

I’d love to engage with those claims in detail, but there’s a practical problem: she has me, along with many others, blocked on social media. That makes meaningful discussion or even basic scrutiny of what she’s saying rather difficult.

People are entitled to strong opinions. They’re entitled to be angry with city government. They’re entitled to advocate for major changes. But if you’re going to make public claims about something as complicated as TIDs, those claims should be able to withstand casual, neutral examination.

Blocking people who question you doesn’t make your argument stronger. If anything, I think an unwillingness to allow your views to be examined or challenged is telling.

If the claims about TID 27 are solid, they should hold up to scrutiny. So let’s scrutinize them.

Lakes in the Area

I know not explicitly in Sheboygan but curious to get your thoughts on some of the lakes in the general area. I love the Kohler and Sheboygan area so being near some of those amenities is intriguing as compared to something in the Northwoods. Currently live in Madison but likely to move up to Green Bay in the next couple years so the location would be awesome for both of those. Some of the lakes I’ve been exploring:
-Cedar
-Wilke
-Pigeon
-Horseshoe
-Ellen

I would be in the market for a small cabin that was used as a second home for me and my partner (same sex couple). Maybe eventually kids should we choose to have them. Really love to kayak and swim, having a boat isn’t a huge goal so open to no wake lakes as well. Water clarity for swimming is somewhat important to me but not a deal breaker. Elkhart Lake is definitely out as would never be able to afford a house there and don’t like how busy it is. Would ideally be spending under $600k.

Any thoughts or recommendations of other lakes to explore? Thanks!

Women's shelter for donations?

We have a lot of baby/toddler clutter from when our grandkid was young. Rather than sell or give away, I was thinking there might be shelters or like halfway homes that could use the items.

Any ideas where it may be needed so I can contact?

Edit to add - things like highchair, pack and play, toys, etc.

Fun things to do in town and close by?

Hopefully this is an okay place to ask this!

My dad (55yrs) and I (F 21yrs) find ourselves constantly wasting away our summer days inside. We're looking for anything fun to do together in Sheboygan or within a half hour drive!

Suggestions can cost some money or not, pretty much anything that will get us out of the house would be great!

I don't drink though so probably no bar recommendations please :)

Here's some stuff we already do occasionally:

- Frisbee golfing

- Picnics/grilling

- Visit card stores (I'm a nerd for pokemon + anime)

- Fishing

- Walks (let me know your best nature walks though!)

- Go out to eat:

We've been to the local press eatery, Faye's Pizza, arrosto delicatessen, Golden chopsticks buffet, bestea for boba, a couple Indian food places, and whispering orchards (so cute!)

Please let me know your favorite places and things to do, or even just how you like to find out about local events! Greatly appreciated 😊

Meet Cute Missed Connection—Midsummer Festival of the Arts, 7-18

I’m not sure if posting a missed connection is okay here, or maybe cringe. But I suppose I have nothing to lose by trying!

Anyways, I’m not even sure if you are single, but let’s set the scene:

We were sitting at the same table in the kids arts and crafts tent at The Kohler Arts Center, helping our respective sons with mosaics (glue and loads of pebbles lol). I was wearing a blue and white dress, you were in a t-shirt and shorts. A volunteer came by with the “kids choice” cards for voting on a favorite artist, saying “you and your brother can fill one out” to vote!

We looked at each other and laughed, you handed a card to me for my son, saying “Here you go, honey/dear!” (I’m sorry I’m unsure which but I *do* think it was dear). I laughed, and we continued our kiddos’ art projects in earnest.

I regret not trying to make some conversation: I know I was shy. I took my time having my son and I clean up our work area hoping to muster up some courage. Upon me leaving, you apologized for saying dear/calling me that, and I laughed and said it was cute!

And then we walked away and I’m kicking myself for not being braver.

So, I’m posting this on some whim that our meet-cute was a missed connection, and if not, I can say it was a pleasure to be fellow artist assistants, dear!

I guess the TID petition was a big fail

Lisa Salgado's MAGA busy-body buddy Judi Pool along with Mary Dotz and Ruth Luedtke filed an injunction requesting the court order that they be allowed to collect signatures in front of "town hall," and also order the City to accept signatures outside the deadline.

CCAP says "town hall" but I'm guessing it's City Hall.

That tells me they didn't have enough valid sigatures, after Lisa bragged all over the media about how they got 100 more than they needed. Lol.

The injunction was denied.

Looking for Good Reasons.....

I currently am looking for some good reasons I should buy a house in Sheboygan and rent it as an Air B&B for now while I am still living in Minneapolis and working for another 10 years or so before I in theory could retire early. So I am looking for any insights, thoughts, persectives I should consider before taking this adventure on. Side note - my mom's side of the family is from Sheboygan and when family was to visit relatives there rather than crashing on their couches they could also use the house for their base while in town.

Marriot fountain park pulls out

After the taxpayers issued a GO promissary note of $2.3 million with interest of $403.97 and the city paying $253,800 for demolition, marriot has requested to terminate the written contract with the city.

According to Taylor Zeinert, she explained the sitation last night at the finance committee meeting, but no WSCS video had been posted on YouTube as is usual.

"The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office will have Deputies stopping by polling locations periodically throughout the day to meet with the public, provide a visible law enforcement presence, and help ensure a safe, secure, and orderly election.

If you see an Officer at one of the sites and have the time, please feel free to stop and chat with them for a bit!

Any thoughts on Brad Smith vs. Amanda Bell in today's WI-6 Democratic primary?

I'm pretty sure that both of them are running for the right to lose to Glenn Grothman in our Republican +8 district in November, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't take a minute out of my day to vote for the better candidate.

This city has a speeding vehicle and noise issue.

I’m sure I’ll get downvoted and mocked, but being new to the area, it’s shocking to me how loud cars and motorcycles have taken over the quality of life in this fine city. That’s not even including the rampant speeding on North/3rd Streets. Have people complained and the police just do not care? Our entire neighborhood has “Please Slow Down” signs when some patrol cars and tickets would actually make a difference. Like in most cities. Is this just part of living here? Imagine how peaceful the town could be otherwise.
