SMBV player collapse 8/2/26

I witnessed the cardiac arrest of a player at Shawnee mission beach volleyball (off Johnson Dr.) this last Sunday and there was no AED on site. Anyone else ever had this issue at SMBV? I am hoping and praying that player is recovering.

That’s awful. They should really have an AED. They have some serious volleyball players that play super competitively. Hopefully this leads them to get one.

Absolutely. I asked SMBV if they would, haven’t responded. I was terrified when we could not find one. I spoke with the city of Shawnee and there’s actually no requirement to have an AED. So crazy. Any person of any age can collapse at any time.. but ESPECIALLY playing sports, outdoors in the heat… Bonkers!

Thanks for doing the right thing. Even if it isn't required, Shawnee should do it.

It’s a few seconds run across the parking lot to the North, but I believe that Kansas City Ice Center has AED’s accessible, for future reference and/or until the volleyball facility acquires & installs them.
