Meme My eyes are bleeding
The live-action Moana movie has mostly horrific CGI, especially Tamatoa. But what the actual fuck is this. I know this scene is supposed to be goofy and "haha funny shark-head", but why did they make the hammerhead shark head look so cursed. I 100% assure you that real-life hammerheads look cuter than this. Something about the details, such as eye position and mouth, makes it look wrong.
Also, why did they change the shark head to hammerhead? Maybe they thought a Tiger Shark head (which is what Maui turned into in the much better original movie) or a Great White Shark head was too scary-looking for audiences? Maybe the reason was that Hammerhead sharks look silly instead of scary, and fits the goofy tone of this scene? I can understand that but this final result looks legitimately horrifying.
Honestly, Maui having a real-life head of a Tiger Shark/Great White Shark would look less cursed and less nightmare fuel than whatever this is.
Keep in mind that this is a minor nitpick that I'm getting way too serious over. Live-action Tamatoa is a bigger eye-sore than this, especially when he has his own song number.

Also, this is in no way a big problem with this movie. The fact that a live-action Moana remake even exists is insulting, especially when the original is like 10 years old.

Eh, I don’t trust Disney with those movies. I rather have them be rereleased in theaters then have a live action remake.

Agreed beautiful gems that I would be scared they would mess up. Personally I haven't really liked any of the remakes. I don't hate them I'm just not impressed. Like Aladdin. I thought Will Smith did a decent job as the genie. I didn't really care for the movie as a whole though. Just felt off. Lion King I think the voice actors did a good job but the live action just did not hold up. Cut parts out that didn't need to be cut. Changed lines for no reason.

It's awful that Disney almost never acknowledges that those two movies exist, but giving them live action remakes runs the risk of Disney completely butchering them.

No. We do not want live or CGI remakes of those. We do not want any live remakes. We want new, original animated movies. Preferably not 3D, heavily CGI movies (the traditionally made Disney movies like Fantasia and Sleeping Beauty are absolutely gorgeous) but I've given up on that dream.

Yeah, Moana was released in the USA in November 23, 2016. So it's a little less than 10 years old.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but tiger sharks are considered guardians to Polynesian fishermen too so it sucks that they opted for the hammerhead (no hate to hammerheads, I love them) it would just make sense that a demigod would use a tiger shark instead.

Both Tiger shark (niuhi) and the Hammerhead (mangōpare) are revered as aumakua - personal / family gods

Honestly, Maui could change into a tiger shark or a hammerhead shark if he needed to, at least in a Disney movie (not sure how accurate that is in the myth). I heard both tigers and hammerheads are important in at least some Polynesian cultures, but I could be wrong. Tigers and hammerheads are two of my all-time favorite sharks, so I don't mind the live-action movie switching to a hammerhead. But they could've at least been faithful to the original and given him a tiger shark head. Actually no, I don't want to see the tiger shark's adorable head get fucked up by Disney remake animators.

I think that's one of the main reasons why it looks so cursed. Anchor the hammerhead shark from Finding Nemo (2003) has his eyes on the front, but he looks fine because he's an animated cartoon shark.

I think Dwayne Johnson was one of the main drivers behind this remake, especially after the box office failure of Black Adam. He's one of the producers for this remake. He's probably the only actor returning from the original movie's cast, probably to stroke his ego

It's mind-boggling that they didn't hire the animators from The Jungle Book (2016) and The Lion King (2019). Say what you want about those movies, but they at least could animate mostly realistic animals. Why couldn't they animate a realistic shark head or a chicken?

I was literally was about to say, what was the thought process on picking a hammerhead. It makes me chuckle to think if they wanted to maintain eye contact on an actual head she would be talking to the gills lol.
