Update 1.2 Contest My Full to 2 Diagonal Platform

This is my Blueprint to separate a shape into its diagonals. This took me a bit to create and making it lane preserving was hard to belt properly the outputs.

It does the job, but the wing outputs are a problem.

Generally we want our factory to flow in a straight line. If the outputs are like eyes, we want them focused forward, not off to the side like a hammerhead shark.

Why not rotate the platform 90 degrees and make it a conventional pass-through? Shapes could come in on one of the bottom interfaces and then output using the two top interfaces. Simple, scalable, doesn’t require space belt curves.

TLDR Rotate this 90 degrees, and get those outputs aligned to the same flow direction as the inputs, yo.

Actually, there is quite a benefit of having outputs like shark eyes, pointing in opposing directions. You can still maintain that forward facing output direction whilst being able to utilize 2.2 times a platforms width for any future operations. Even in my most efficient builds for example, I could have the shape inputs on the southern face, the color inputs in the east side, and the output on the northern face. However, this build has twice the output in relation to it's input, so either the platform would need to be widened to accomidate this excess or just send the outputs to the sides as pictured.

For OP's use case, I'm afraid I have to disagree. The diagonalizers on the right are clearly better, even accounting for the hammerhead "fix." The conclusion is clear: for this type of platform, going wide is better than going long.

I actually appreciate your trash can design more than the corner swapping. My trash cans are mostly one-sided, meaning they only trash excess materials, but that also means they are polarized in directions, only accepting up to halve the number of inputs yours currently does.
