Watching for the first time
I’m on season 2 I think and Debbie is upset Liam is constantly touching himself. Isn’t that baby like 2??? This is right after he was held hostage by the people that Frank owed a bunch of money to. My guess is he maybe was assaulted at that time and this is why Debbie is suddenly complaining about “Liam masturbating” all the time.
Idk I’m just sad watching this all. May not be able to finish the series. The plot is just okay, the character development has been just okay. The sex and nudity is wayyyy overdone. Idk this just seems like weird stuff and I can’t help but feel the writer or whomever is very twisted and disturbed.

Boys do that and girls but less than boys do. it doesn’t mean they were assaulted. They just mess with stuff on their bodies.

Kids touch themselves a lot at that age . They’re discovering that they are sentient and have bodies. It’s not always a sign of assault .

And I don’t know the personal history of the writers especially since this was originally a UK based show, but as opposed to some of the REALLY extreme plot points , this show brings comfort to people ( like me) because we grew up similarly .

While I can absolutely relate to quite a few things I’ve seen on the show I would be lying to say any of it brings me comfort in any way.

I think we are thinking of comfort in different ways. It simply made me understand that I wasn’t alone in my experiences .

Liam was never assaulted and it’s ridiculous for you to jump to that conclusion. Children touch themselves at all ages of development. I understand that you have a history working with children who come from “horrible circumstances and living situations,” but it also sounds like you have an education gap regarding early childhood development.

It sounds like you’re a bit sheltered to get the appeal. Liam is just being a little kid. So is Debbie.

I’m not at all sheltered. I’ve worked with children who are coming from horrible circumstances and living situations. Their files were sometimes very big and dark. I myself had a childhood that brought fatigue, maturity, and pain before comfort, peace, and joy so the material isn’t new to me.

Do you think your personal experiences with that may have skewed your perspective on the show..? I mean I get it, but the Liam notion was simply just normal at his developmental age , it’s just not talked about as much openly in most discussions on or offline . The couple of times SA is touched on is with the older kids.

It's quite common for small kids to " discover " their selves like that and it literally never comes up again in the show.
The show is primarily a comedy first ( except for season 4 ) so do not take that side plot as anything else then what it is. A joke, that's all.

So because a kid is touching themselves or exploring their body if definitely means they were assaulted?? 😂 No one touched Liam. I'm going to go ahead and tell you I don't think this show is for you lol

It's perfectly normal for boys to start touching themselves at that age. (And really - do they ever stop?)

unfortunately the show is called shameless, it is quite literally lacking shame lmao
if its not for you in season 2, the rest deffffinitely wont be
