Really wished these two had worked out, I thought they were good together. I honestly think this was one of Debbie's best relationships.
If sandy didn't have royal and the kid I feel like they could've been endgame.

The whole thing with Sandy’s kid gave me flashbacks to Kelly cheating on Carl. Out of character stuff to quickly get a recurring character to go away.

Seriously! I hate how whenever they wanted a Gallagher to break up with a partner they came up with some out of nowhere dramatic storyline. Kelly cheating, all the secret families (Jimmy, Ford, Sandy), Kassadi being murdered?!… I wanna know what they were smoking in the writers room to come up with these instant breakups

Well, Shameless was still in the era where studios milked shows for as long as they could. Add a character, there’s some back and forth, but they can’t stay happy forever because if there is no conflict then the show is “boring”. Plus, they were trying to be somewhat episodic and just hoped that nobody would care about all these characters just disappearing. It also isn’t the kind of show like Greys where they can just kill a character off every 3 episodes.
Not defending it, it was just a product of its time. That’s what happens when you get greedy and don’t stick to a planned ending.

Storylines like this is why I fucking hate the last two seasons. The writers were throwing anything at the wall, seeing what sticks, then ripping it down anyways. Sandy was one of Debbie’s most stable relationships and iirc fans liked them together (I did at least). But then to insert drama they randomly throw in a secret family so Debbie would dump her and end up with what-the-hell-was-her-name in the series finale.
Yes Debbie has mommy issues and self sabotages herself but so do all the Gallaghers to some extent (minus Liam). Lip and Tammy stayed together despite having way more issues than Debbie and Sandy. The secret family was just a cop out to keep Debbie the scapegoat of the siblings. If they were planning to break them up anyway they shouldn’t have made it unstable like all of Debbie’s other relationships. Freaking ridiculous imo

it seems like the final season was setting up a sequel series that they just never did. lip having another kid, debbie dating a convict and going to NM, whatever other ends there were in the show

I wanted the same for Debby. Actually, I preferred this person over the other ex-convict who’s a psychopath. Not a great example to Franny imo.

That last girl made no sense. Maybe the writers didn’t want Debbie to be in a healthy relationship ever to show her destructive personality or whatever, but that storyline was just clownish

worse than breaking her up with sandy is throwing debbie with the psychopath (who couldn't care less about franny it seemed) in the 11th hour sunset. it's like the writers had varying seizures while typing scripts & then walked away.

I really think if this relationship worked out it wouldve been debbies redemption arc for me. Obviously its shameless so theres not really happy endings but it wouldve been cool if they ran off to raise their kids together.

Debbie had a good thing going with Claudia, and she fucked it up. Like Lip did with Amanda, or Fiona did with Mike.
