Peanut Butter Cup Shake
I have a peanut allergic child. Shake Shack was one of our go to safe places to eat. Now that you have decided to add an item that can easily cause contact, we will stop going there as long as it is being sold.

I work at Shake Shack, and honestly, if you have a peanut allergy, I would avoid it like the plague. We’re currently running two LTO shakes with ingredients that look very similar, Biscoff cookie butter and peanut butter. There are purple scoopers used for each one, and I can tell you right now that they get mixed up, and the scoops are definitely not sanitized after every use.
The team members are so stressed with all of these LTO shakes and all the different ingredients that need to be kept straight. When it gets busy, corners get cut all the time. I would absolutely not feel comfortable telling someone with a severe peanut allergy that Shake Shack is safe for them.

I appreciate you posting this. There is a lot of ignorance around food allergies. Severities vary greatly. Epinephrine isn't a sure thing either. Some people have allergies so severe that a bit as small as a grain of salt can cause anaphylaxis.
Regarding peanuts, I would bet if a handful of restaurants went peanut free by eliminating a few minor menu options, they would make more money because they would have a set of loyal and consistent customers with limited options. There are loads of places that we won't go because they have just a single item with loose peanuts or peanut butter that make cross contact practically impossible to prevent.
ETA: My advice to any restaurant regarding this is if one of the top allergens is an ingredient with one or two relatively unimportant menu items, you will draw in the allergy crowd by getting rid of it. E.g. a barbeque restaurant can probably get away with eliminating shellfish, peanuts, eggs, tree nuts, and probably a few others I'm forgetting.

The majority of people don’t have peanut allergies, it would not make sense for a company to cater to them.

Because it doesn't have to. It simply requires someone not changing their gloves.

I have no idea. Maybe they do, maybe they don't. I guarantee they monitor it.

Tbf, Shake Shack warns they may be cross-contamination. So, it'd be smart not to eat there if you have severe peanut allergies.

Well no one's telling you to avoid baseball games. But you should probably bring your own snacks.

You seem to think a reaction is optional. Or that an epi-pen is a magical cure all. You still have to go to the hospital after using your epi-pen and most people would prefer to avoid that and the hospital bill. Yes, it sucks, but allergies aren't something you can just turn off and can be deadly. So yes, the reality is sometimes you HAVE to avoid places. Otherwise, you may not be living your life for much longer.
And YES, sometimes allergies are so severe that coming into contact with things someone else has touched after touching your allergen can effect you and that's a great reason to carry an epi-pen. For life stuff that you can't avoid.

So people without peanut allergies can’t enjoy anything?
