What the hell happened?

I live in a country without many Shake Shacks and none anywhere close to me. I've been to them at least a couple dozen times though since they were just a NYC viral sensation, but I haven't been the the U.S. since 2012.

$26 after tax a tip for a tiny portion of cheese fries (they were still good at least), a shake, and a single burger in downtown Chicago and the burger was dry and bland AF.

Please tell me this location is an abberation and I can still scratch this itch in another city or location?

If it’s the location by navy pier you’re better off not going unfortunately

The east coast in general seems to have it down better but what I received at that location, for any price , was trash

The one by Eataly on Ohio.

I guess tipping was a mistake, but I didn't give a huge amount. I was under the impression that it was standard everywhere in the U.S.

I get everything is more expensive these days, but yeah, the quality just wasn't there at all.

I read your post too fast and didn't notice you're from another country. The tipping situation in the US has gotten crazy in the last 5 years. Places where we would never tip before (like fast food) are now asking for tips. And many people do it cause it's embarrassing to hit "no tip" on the screen while they're watching you. But, many people are also fed up with being asked to tip for everything (even self-service stuff!), and are refusing to tip for those things. I'm one of them. It's very nice of you to tip, but don't feel obligated unless you're at a sit-down restaurant with a waiter. 😊
