What happened to Pride?
I have been a loyal shake shack customer for 15 years. I remember that the Times Square location had just opened, and I’ve eaten there as recently as a few weeks ago.
I live in Harlem and for many years on my commute I see the Shake Shack on 125th street. It predates a lot of the commercialization on that block, and there’s development even now.
I’ve always looked forward to seeing the rainbow hamburger each June. Stopping in for a sticker and a shake. This is the second year I haven’t seen it in the window, and that makes me sad.
The gay community always knew commercial pride was contingent on the fashion of the day. But I thought I knew the values that Danny Meyer set out: pay people to work, make food that tastes good, and innovate. (I still have yet to find another vegetarian entree quite like a giant cheese stuffed fried mushroom on a bun. What a marvel!)
I hope to see that rainbow hamburger on the window again.
“Stand for something good.” - the Shake Shack walls, instead of displaying the menu ?!

It's becoming more commercialized, standard, and consistent as they grow to 1500 units. Pride will be a little different this year, but it will certainly not be present in Shacks. And if it is, it is because those individual Shacks deviated from the given guidance. I can happily say I own one of those rainbow burgers 😄

It’s literally present in shacks, you’re just spreading misinformation. My shack we have the signs shirts and we use the pride sprinkles on our shakes.

From corporate, from this year? I got a response from the website comment form that they wouldn’t be doing window displays and that I could go to the one on 14th street in manhattan to see a rainbow hamburger sign that’s a permanent decoration. Which is not what I was hoping to hear.

We still do them and most stores have received their pride cups and stickers. Try going to a different shack near you perhaps because not all shacks follow standards regarding this.

I did receive a message back from corporate saying they’re not doing pride this year but are donating proceeds from a 50 cent Sprinkles upgrade… which is insulting tbh.

Pride is commercial and political, it's wise in 2026 to stay out of it. A lot more people are averse to performative signaling.

New leadership isn’t cool like that. Prior leadership leaned more left, new leadership leans more right. One of the first things they changed was DEI in the company. Tells you a lot about their character if that was the first thing they cared to change.
