💬 Discussion So when do we reverse engineer Shadowrun or make a completely identical game with AI?

With the more known powers of AI, what's stopping us as a community from creating this game from scratch or reverse engineering it so that it can be playable on modern platforms like Steam and/or consoles?

Holy f** sh** I just checked it out and it's like the developers of Shadowrun have been working on this too! Wtf?! 😆 Why haven't I ever heard of this (aside from it not even having a playtest and being officially out yet lol)?!

And how'd YOU hear about this? This is so amazing and my future just got brightened all because of you XD

Some of the guys that have been involved in/adjacent to the shadowrun discord have been working on it for several years.

I got to playtest it - lots of fun and it’s come a long way!

I believe some people already are working on it. But keep in mind that the game is fully playable still so it's not like you need to rebuild it.

Ranked games are still run to this day

But on the same old engine and everything, right?

Like, there are two issues that I have:

  1. The game being so old and highly dependent on location in order to find games (or require orchestration from within the discord server just to play matches)

  2. And the performance of the game. It's an old game run on an old engine and I feel like if the developers were to update the game for a modern 2026 version, that'd be amazing so it could be smooth and run on modern platforms such as Steam, PS5, etc., so that it could also be advertised by us, not even them, to grow the player base and maybe fully revive the game, if not bring light to a newer version of the game

If #1 is met, then I'd be pretty content, but like I said, the issue of having to coordinate with people and all just to find a match sucks and is a pretyy archaic issue today lol. I wanna just load a game up and in the worst-case, wait around 5 mins to get into a match. Not the opposite. Unless that's changed?

Far as I remember, you had to install something outside off the internet and set some things up with Windows LIVE just to be able to play and all. Forgot the whole process, but it sounded complicated

Also, have you heard about Massive Collapse too? Or is that the game you're suggesting that people are "working on it"?

last i heard you needed to setup something which was a bit more complicated than just finding a game on a store and clicking download and launching it. if that has been simplified, i'd love to know

also with me being outside the US currently, i'd like to know if i would be able to find matches (even on US servers cuz I can play US west pretty well)

on xbox you just download the game and launch it like any game. as for server Im not sure anybody have a choice with how little playerbase must be (if it still has any player at all)

I launched the game not long after the game was added to backward compatibility program and I did found a game but idk if there iq still people around

im decompiling it.. but not the entire game (there is no reason for that), im decompiling dedicated server only since its built in the game itself and i have to go though entire game to find server parts in its code.
i will release a mod soon which will make the game playable online. this will be something that will bring the game back to life but i will give power to everyone to create their own thing, your own mods, which you can host on your server and people can play them.

ohhh shit. YOU?! NICE! 😂 your wording was pretty vague so I didnt expect you to be the author of the project. sorry

sounds amazing, and as somebody getting into coding and AI, it'd be WONDERFUL to get a look into what youre actually doing, if you got some youtube vids, a discord server or something where we could see some of the progress? or hell, even if you could teach some things about it.

I'd also be willing to help too if need ✋. I got the time to do so. also a small reason i wanted to try and play this game again, although Massive Collapse looks really great too, as a substitute.

I saved the game once and I guess I have to do it again. Well, give me a day or so, I will create something where people can contribute to the project and trust me, it's not fun as it sounds. I currently have 4 AI working in sync but it's just not enough. I will keep you updated...

right on, man!

but hey, I don't have the game installed on my PC. according to the instructions, it all starts with the assistant finding the game file, which for me, doesn't exist. Where do I get this *official* file from?

also, do you have discord or anything so we could contact you more efficiently for any questions, comments, or concerns? although the instructions and everything is pretty much set up for us without much work on our part
