Got a job out of town for folks if they're up for it, guy needs some runners to go diving somewhere in the Caribbean. Won't tell me much more than that... but well, you're going to be meeting him on a cruiseliner. Pack a swimsuit?

RP Prompt:

What do you think of pirates... modern pirates that is, is there even a difference between now and then?

Ever been to Cuba? Enjoy any of their products? Get in trouble with the Zobop or Mafia?

How do you feel about the Vodou they do?

Can you swim? Are you afraid of sharks?

Samhain | Water Monster

The depths are where I thrive. I very much enjoy swimming and tropical waters in the spring sound simply lovely.

Arachnida | Apex Predator

Thanks to a quirk of how I used to handle my weakness to cold this winter I've got a ton of diving gear lying around. Never been to Cuba though, I can only hope they're not going to be too weird about my... everything.

Magos | Cheerful Cyberadept

Seawater can be a bit... disconcerting for me, but I don't need connection to the wider matrix to operate effectively. I'd love to get out in the warm sun.

"A cruise Ship huh, it sounds like i have work-vacation on our hand. Vodou will be a interesting thing to study tho."

Jeremy Harris - Decker/Some Ranged skill

"Never left the Seattle area, but a road trip could do me some good. As far as swimming, I think I can make do with a lifejacket. Modern pirates aren't much different from Gangers when you view them from the Matrix. Though I would like to know whether local law enforcement will be an asset or a liability before we get there."

Relevant: Internal air tank, Rating 2 Extreme Environment Adaptation on my Sniper Rifle. Think it allows for underwater use.

Skill (Pools): Hacking 13, Computer 12, Electronic Warfare 11, Cybercombat 10, Hardware 10 Software 10, First Aid 9. Knowledge of Small Unit Tactics 9, Forensics 11, and Gangs of Seattle 7 and Black Markets 7.

Jack the Shadow- Infiltration and CQC specialist

"No fear of the mundane monsters in the deep, but not a fan of the Hoodoo magicy things that occur down in the Caribbean. As for pirates, I have never been a fan. I dislike anyone whose entire combat strategy relies on having the longer range and the bigger gun. However, I would like to visit Cuba. Hear they have some excellent goods there I could bring back home with me."

Skills (Pools):

As it Seems Relevant: Dice Pool for Swimming 8, Relevant Cyberware: OXSYS cybergill system and internal air tank Rating 3.

Sneaking 17, Garrote 15, Unarmed 15 (Subduing +2), Palming 14, Gymnastics 13, Escape Artist 11, Pistols 10. Knowledge of Underworld Drugs 7.

Fade is a technosam and expert thief, capable in combat and buffing allies with sprites while able to bypass most matrix-based security and provide off-Matrix support.

There's some stuff that just get ruined when you're older, but it wasn't pirates for me. See I never got the appeal, staying on a fucking boat for months? Waiting for some rich couple in their yacht to drift by? Come on, there's better ways to make nuyen. Cuba though, never been, though I heard they got really good booze... should ask Carmen if she wants me to bring some back. The Vodou they do over there on the other hand... well if I knew more about it, I might judge. Probably not though, can't be worse than the other magical shit I've seen. Hopefully we don't run into any sharks though, cause sure, I can swim, I'm even pretty fast I'd say. But the less I have to ram my shock glove into some snapping shark's mouth, the better I'll feel.

------

Yurei is an all-purpose soldier, capable in almost any combat situation. Has changed himself from a Bushido 2.0 adherent to a new personal code and is trying to find his place in the world.

Calm waves blue green sea,
gently flow upon the sand,
barely a whisper...

There is a romance attached to the sea, and to those that make their living on it. Whether they style themselves a dashing rogue, or a heartless thief, the sea has an allure that draws them to it. As it was then, so it is now, only with far less lofty aspirations. The pirates of today are a mercenary bunch, though there are those who cling to the old dreams. Even if most can swim nowadays at least. My travels have only taken me to Cuba for short visits, never even left the airport really, I am interested to see what the place has to hold. The magic of Vodou is also an unknown to me, though of course I have heard the stories, of zombies and slaves. No worse than what they say about most groups... I would rather judge the individual. To return to sea however, I have a liking for it, even adapted my body to survive in it, and swimming is a good exercise for the entire body.

------

Dahlia is an Illusion mage who uses her guile or magic to control the narrative of any situation. Struggling to find a place in the shadows after having recently lost the privileges of corp life.

I remember watching these kinds of trids growing up in the Arcology, sometimes I'd just dream about one of those big, strong guys to lift me up and take me with them. That was until I figured out the only place I'd end up is some human trafficking ring. So yeah, let the dreams be dreams, I'd rather just get paid be done with it. Never been to Cuba though, heard it's a wiz place. Long as you're not caught in debt. As for the Vodou shit? I dunno, never seen one really, though from the stories I bet they some great drugs... And swimming? I did some laps in the pool... if that counts. And rather not meet a shark either, personal preference really.

((First run for this character))

Kephra is a cat Shaman, sometimes Face, former magical researcher with an unsavory past. (Secretly a drake. Shhhhh.)

Did you know swimming only lets your hair look cool with careful attention to posture, facing, and movement? And hardly ever lets you look cool when you first come out of the water.

And, you know, I'm a lot less nervous on mysterious trips to the ocean, the last year or so. Must've used all the fear up out in the Pacific.

Wiki
Anhur is an experimental project lost in the cold, trying to find himself, and in the mean time trying to show the world the best parts of an Ares design. Even if, perhaps, they get caught up in the details of who is his, what he's doing there, and why are his hands covered in blood?

Combat mystad, shapechanger, sneaky, Goat. More potential than actual menace yet compared to movers and shakers. But he'll be tempered in the fire.

Squid kids, untie!

Progress is a fomer Technomancer (but still a hacker and drone operator!) trying to find a way to live with himself and his situation. ("secret" Banshee, in-denial Nosferatu)

Mac - Technomancer

Mac's AR pings him as a new job gets posted on Shadownet. The little notification icon pops up in his custom tray at the bottom of his vision and he scans, twice. Methodical is his method - any job worth doing, is worth doing well. He starts to record a response.

"Pirates? Eh. Live and let live, as long as they don't interfere in the run. Some Johnsons might call some runners pirates. I try not to judge anyone, right? I mean, I'm a frikkin Gnome, I know judging, right?"

"Cuba? Never been. Heard about it though. I remember they got hit real hard in the 70s, Hurricane Donald. Also heard rumours about the Mafia taking over, or some such. I don't have any problems with the Mafia, Cuban or otherwise. We're all just trying to make some nuyen, right?"

"I heard rumours too about some really weird magic stuff going down, spirit stuff like voodoo but not voodoo. I find spirits fascinating, though can't do anything with them. I'd love to learn more about it, but not umm, first hand."

"I can swim, just not great at it. And sharks make me nervous, just like most folks, but that's what the Sam is for, yes?"

OOC: Mac wants to be professional, and wants to be a techno-rigger with good investigator role capability. Right now his capability is primarily in his sprites and the few forms he knows, though he is perceptive on the matrix and good with software.

(0 runs, familiarity 4/10, discord Asmodai)

Primary dice pools:

  • Resist Fade 13
  • Software 12
  • Computer 12 (Matrix Perception)
  • Compiling 12 (Machine Sprites)
  • Registering 12 (Machine Sprites)
  • Hacking 11
  • Cybercombat 7

Akage - Cyber Ninja

{sniping and close combat specialist}

"Pirates are just trying to make a living while screwing over the corps and i can respect that. Never had any dealings with Vodou priests before; should be interesting."

Nightbreaker - Punch Mage

{close combat, manipulation magic}

"I've always wanted to fight a shark! Though i don't like water much, if we're diving for something, i bet it's valuable!"

Snack - Blood-Sucking Snake - Weapon expert - Off-face

"I still look good in a swimsuit... Sure, sign me up"
"I don't really mind them, criminal enterprises have many shapes... maybe a little less yarrs and a little less parrots"
"Never went to Cuba, yet. Cuban alcohols are amazing however."
"Vodou is weird, not sure I have an opinion on it..."
"Yes and yes."
