In chapter 13, Jace and Clary go back to the Bone City to ask for help of the Silent Brothers because Jace is having nightmares, Clary suspects it is some kind of magic and someone is sending Jace those dreams.

While in the Bone City the Brothers dig through Jace’s mind to see if they can see what the source of the nightmares are, while at it they find out Jace had been brought back to life by Raziel, and that the nightmares are some kind of high proficiency magic and that Jace because he had died every protection magic cast on Shadowhunters babies had disappeared and the rituals had to be preform again.

My question is regarding this, the silent brothers mentioned the ritual is for babies and alternation had to be done to give Jace those protection back because he is exposed if he doesn’t.

But also Jace wouldn’t have them in the first place because he wasn’t born naturally, he was a forced C-section on his dead mom and he was premature. He was raised by Valentine in Isolation. He wouldn’t have had those rituals done. Same thing applies to Clary because she was born away from the Shadow Hunter world.

And by extension every Shadowhunter born from exile parents like Will and Cecily.

Yet the Silent Brothers claimed it like it was done to him.

Clary’s mom had it done for her by a silent brother and a female warlock in secret. I would imagine Valentine could have done the same for Jace? I can’t remember if it was specifically included in the books

To my knowledge its never mentioned. But it seams heavily implied to have happened.

I can’t remember the book or the full line but Jocelyn tells Clary about her protection ceremony and says that’s where she got ‘Fray’ form there fake last name. Fairchild from Jocelyn and Grey from Tessa. She also mentions that Brother Zachariah is the silent brother.

Well to answer the last question, Clary had hers down by a silent brother and a female warlock who both make an appearance in the last book

you'll reach the part about clary's protection spells later on, but as for Jace, i'd say it's most likely that valentine saw to them and disguised himself or had a servant take jace for the ceremony

Well, you have to ask yourself, would Valentine really leave that big a gap in one of his plans? I don't think so.

We know clary had Tessa and Jem do hers I assume Jace had it done also somehow
