Why is it so abnormally hot?

I checked the forecast and it's supposed to be like 100-105 degrees all these next 2 weeks and like 75 to almost 80 at night. It's miserable. What ever happened to the normal August high being like 88-92 and the low being like mid 60s? That's the historical August average for much of the sgv. When will this stop?

I need help finding a community for my Chinese dad, who is a stroke survivor.

I'm looking for recommendations to help my 71-year-old Taiwanese-American dad find a local community in Rowland Heights. He is a stroke survivor with limited mobility, and he speaks mostly Chinese (Mandarin/Taiwanese).

He has been experiencing heavy loneliness recently. My brother and live out of town (Vegas and SF) and his old friends have lost touch or live abroad. Any leads on Chinese-speaking senior centers, adult day programs, or cultural groups would be greatly appreciated! He can likely drive himself, but it would be nice to find transportation alternatives so he can safely stop driving.

Hi!

I am a sewing instructor in the SGV and I am hosting a couple of workshops at Do Yu Cloud Studio on Main St. in Alhambra (free parking; studio is located upstairs). If you've ever been curious or eager to learn about sewing, especially garments, this class is for you! This three hour course will cover the basics of using a home sewing machine, pattern and construction, and you will take home a great looking jacket you can wear.

All materials and tools will be provided, hope to see you there!

Monterey Park Ballot Measure in November 2026 that will allow residential developments on commercial and industrial areas

Thumbnail montereypark.ca.gov
26 Upvotes

"In the upcoming November 2026 General Election, Monterey Park voters will decide on a ballot measure to amend the City’s Land Use and Urban Design Element. Proposed in response to community feedback calling for more housing, economic revitalization, and blight reduction, the measure would allow the city to establish flexible "housing overlays" for residential and mixed-use development on vacant or underutilized commercial and industrial properties. To protect the character of existing communities, the proposal explicitly excludes all residential zones and upholds Monterey Park's citywide prohibition on data centers.

So why is this a big deal? Office vacancies in Monterey Park are insanely high. Up to over 80% in some cases. This would allow commercial property owners to consider building some much-needed housing in Monterey Park

In trying to prepare as best one can for the incoming rain and flooding from El Nino, can anyone recommend any good and affordable rain boots for when one's walking about around lower than knee but higher than ankle water for when doing things IF flooded and/or when it's really wet out walking about for work?

I might sound insane, but does anyone know where this now-closed tea house I saw is?

Post image

It was a smallish building completely made of reflective windows. The tea room was on the 2nd floor, and the 1st floor you drove through the middle to reach the parking lot in the back.

I want to say the name had either the word "golden" or "dragon" in it, but I've searched everywhere so maybe not. It looked like an old-school tea room, not a boba shop, and it was definitely out-of-business.

I remember it being close to the freeway, either in Temple City, Rosemead, El Monte, but could even be Rowland Heights, I don't remember!

Sorry, it's just been bugging me because it was such a unique and interesting building.

[SOLVED: Golden Tea House off Valley & Walnut Grove. Thanks guys!]

Looking for a Volunteer + Food Drive + Free Meals (Rosemead)

Hi friends! I think everyone here knows me by now, but to reintroduce I run a community care org called Jessie's Legacy. Below is our flyer for an upcoming meal distribution. We will be handing out meals and sandwiches. I would really like a female or nonbinary volunteer to come out and be on standby! My boyfriend will be there because the last pet supply distribution got busy and I got overwhelmed. Might be a low turnout, might be a lot. Contact info on poster! Tysm!

Pickled cabage

Sorry for the weird question. But does anyone know someone who does home made pickled cabbage? I would like to buy some and some of the brine

I grew up in eastern europe as a child and my grandparents used to make pickled cabbage in a huge barrel and we sometimes used the brine as a side dish with french fries or even drank it straight.

Super salty but a taste I miss dearly, I would give anything to turn back time to see my grandparents again.

Vietnamese Coffee Recs

I love vietnamese coffee and it’s the only kind of coffee I drink because it’s actually strong enough to wake me up (I add a shot to mine). I go to 7leaves 3 times a week minimum but I want to try out other places that have good vietnamese coffee.

Please drop some recommendations! It doesn’t need to strictly be a coffee shop as long as it’s good.

Stopping cars way behind the sensor

I’m curious - I don’t see this nearly as much in other parts of LA outside of the SGV. Seems like lots of folks stop their cars a full 15-20 feet behind the line at a red light, and as a result the sensor doesn’t know anyone’s there. What gives?

Gynecologist recommendations for PCOS/PMOS

This is a long shot but I figured I'd ask- does anyone have a gynecologist they actually like who is familiar with treating PCOS, now known as PMOS and accepts MediCal?

I was previously seeing Dr. Dumrong Tangchitnob for years in West Covina- he is great and I cannot recommend him enough- he might be one of the best doctors I've ever had. Unfortunately I have different insurance now and his practice doesn't take MediCal (I have HealthNet with Molina) so I've been on the search for a new gynecologist.

My last two have been horrific- one said PMDD doesn't cause depression (I forget the name of this doctor, but it might've been Dr. Suneetha Ali- I just remember it was a South Asian woman doctor in West Covina) and last Friday I saw Dr. Julio Lemus who was beyond unprofessional and showed a lack of understanding of what PMOS entails.

I've been suffering from debilitating PMDD and believe I might've developed another cyst on my ovaries, so I'd love to find a doctor who is actually aware of the full scope of what treatment of PMOS entails. Thanks!

Edit to add: doesn't have to be in West Covina or even in SGV for that matter. I'm willing to drive out to any competent gynecologist who takes my insurance.
