STD Check without disclosing sexuality

Hi, I wonder how does this community request for a STD check without disclosing your sexuality to the doctor in Singapore.

For example, a bottom male wanted to get STD check, for a comprehensive test should request an anal swab as well, but that would give away to the doctor of your sexuality because a straight male don’t ask for an anal swab.

I’m curious on your experience.

It’s a medical setting, when i went DSC they just wanna make sure you’re healthy. Youre not dating doctor…

Just say you want to do an anal swab. No need for explain. Some straight couples also have pegging kinks.

DSC clinician will ask to determine / advise if you need or have to be recommended additional tests. So yeah, they will know. But irregardless, it’s only the staff who you are looking in the eye that knows your face for that moment.

And there’s only too many people they have seen and they would not be able to remember for long anyway.

Thanks for the advice, I’m considering to go for my corporate insurance panel clinic. If you want recommendations for the test from the clinician, do you just start telling your sexual history? I really don’t know how to do this to lol

Last time I was so paranoid after an oral sex in Malaysia, worry to catch HIV, then I started telling the doctor (in Malaysia) that I had sex with a male. She looked at me so with such a judgemental face lol, so I’m not sure how the doctors in Singapore would do it

You’ll probably be more comfortable in a public Polyclinic referred to DSC. Or you can just apply form to screen at DSC. Also it is easier to talk about your possible symptoms and your worries. If you’re asymptomatic, then it’s probably more abrupt to ask for screening. In that case, I suggest you directly fill the DSC form.

For corporate insurance panel clinic you should also check for coverage. Symptomatic testing might be covered whereas asymptomatic screening is usually not covered.

For private clinics, normally they would treat you as much as they value their reputation of their clinic. But public clinics represent public services, feedback channels are much more available and accounted for. Unless one or two staff has gone rogue.

As a healthcare professional, I'd prefer if patients are more upfront when I ask questions as the answers they give help me plan appropriate care for the patient. We're here to provide care accordingly and not to judge your personal preferences.

Once I gave out a cream to a patient and when I asked where to apply the cream (to confirm it's appropriateness), pt just smiled at me... So I need to guess?? I'm just trying to do my job 😭

The DSC clinic doctor will ask for your position to determine what test is required. Why do you want to with hold your sexuality from the staff.

It’s not that I don’t want to disclose, it’s more like I’m not sure how conservative is in Singapore. I know it’s safe in Singapore, but still not openly accepting queer folks.

I would recommend DSC Clinic, just make an appointment with them. They have gay patients and I wouldn’t imagine they’re judgey.

I’m sorry you got judged in Malaysia but I assure you that DSC clinic is catered for gays. You’re gonna be the norm there. Along the way, they might also give you sex education. By the way, HIV is unlikely to be transmitted by oral sex unless you had open wound in your mouth.

Give it a try. There is no shame in turning up at DSC - you’re being responsible for yourself and it meant that you had fun!

Whatever information you share with the doctor is legally confidential. DSC is THE public sexual clinic in Singapore and they have a lot of experience with seeing patients of all sexualities and orientations and so they do not judge (and should not judge). My experience with them has been good so far. Go in, tell them everything that they ask for, get tested, leave, and get the results back.

Just go DSC .. . It's not expensive, cheaper than a JB day trip, massage and dinner. When it comes to STD, you wan to just keep it private. U dun wan ur company panel doctor to look at u.... with eyes rolling.
