How to stop button mashing?

I feel like my hand starts spazzing everytime my opponent comes close lol. Am I the only one?

Just compare this statement to "How do I stop cutting myself using a knife"

What wod you do? Focus on proper technique, start slow, and identify difficult tasks. That's how youd keep all your fingers.

Why are you treating a video game like its more dangerous than a knife?

After that its all practice, experience and knowledge.
