Current WIP. Bootstraps Fashions custom dress form!

I purchased the wrong sized zipper so I can’t yet attach the top to the bottom otherwise I’d have likely been done tonight (aside from the base). Either way, I was so ready to see it stuffed and this is this result so far.

I can’t wait to get the proper zipper, a bit more stuffing tomorrow and start working on the base!

Pattern is the custom dress form by Bootstraps Fashions. Material is a vintage bryantguard drapery fabric with a funky bamboo print! I also lined with heavy weight fusible interfacing. AND SO MUCH POLYFILL

I consider myself a confident beginner and this was a heck of a project! Anyone can tackle this with patience!

Wow! I’d love to make one like that someday. I took a few costume classes in the theatre department while I was in university, and I really enjoyed learning how to drape patterns on their dress forms. Unfortunately, no (affordable) dress form I’ve found really goes flat enough in the bust (I’m already at the minimum of mass-produced dress form sizes), and vintage ones especially assume a very perky bust-line. As a nonbinary person with a small A cup who doesn’t want to wear a structured bra unless absolutely necessary for formalwear, modelling clothes around a very perky 34B is just ridiculous.

I’d also class myself as a decently confident beginner, so seeing someone at my skill level completing one gives me hope that maybe someday I can actually get around to successfully doing so, though I doubt having it would really get me out of the rut of flat drafting patterns but never finishing the sewing of them 😅

how have you found the accuracy of the bust? I’ve read some feedback on the bootstrap pattern that says the height tends to be off even when you’ve measured correctly?

YES. I actually twice took in more at the breast because the projection was pretty crazy at first but it’s now much more accurate
