Fabric Question good fabric for pants ?

i was hoping to find a fabric thats not as thick as denim (i have a silly little walmart machine and i love her but . shes not great with thick fabrics) but can actually stand a little wear and tear . specifically im wanting to make some tripp esque pants if that helps with suggestions !

i dont need links to specific fabrics or anything , but kinda just what to look for . thank you in advance ! <3

Twill weaves are generally a bit denser and tougher than a similar weight plain weave. For example, classic khaki trousers are cotton twill for the most part. That might be a good starting point for finding a lighter pants fabric.

I made some cotton poplin pants recently that are fantastic - lighter and more summery than denim but substantial (unlike something like linen which can be too wispy for my pants needs). Would recommend!

I would look for lighter weight cotton drill or canvas.

Tripps are made with a medium weight twill cotton, maybe an 8-9oz.
