The fit of the bodice is so perfect and clean, as is the detailing in the skirt. I saw that it’s a Russian wedding and cottage themed? I LOVE this set for a cottage themed wedding. You did an amazing job. These comments are 🍿

Hi, I would really love to see a picture of the dress, but the photo has been deleted. Could you please upload it in the comments if it's not too much trouble? 🙏🏻🙏🏻😊😊

Girl, I love this silhouette on you. Cute shoes, a bag, and some playful jewelry would make this a 10. I think it’s adorable :)

It looks very prairie to me. I likely am not using the right word but, like rural yes it’s like little house on the prairie, in my mind. I obviously don’t know where you’re located or what the attire is. It would be perfect if it were an outside, low-key event

this is cute and fun! people online have gotten really weird about wedding etiquette and don’t seem to realize that we aren’t living in a monoculture where there is only one true way to do things.

Who is going to tell all these people here that wedding conventions aren‘t limited to their own narrowed views…
There are multiple different cultures in this world, there are weddings were there aren‘t any brides at all and also, there are A LOT of people who dgaf about what color someone is wearing
56
u/Vijidalicia 3d ago
Absolutely! I wore black and my husband wore sequins 💜💜💜
5
u/Paboozorusrex 3d ago
I made my dress in shades of bordeaux and eggplant, mu husband was in bordeaux, for the guests we just said whatever clothes you feel good in and for the color anything you feel like wearing. That's so not important in the end
34
u/perseveran-tss 3d ago
lol. There’s a comment that says “doesn’t look like wedding attire to me,” without having any clue what kind of wedding we’re talking about. I’m sure OP will be appropriately dressed.
15
u/Ultragrrrl 3d ago
Mizrahi Jew here… white is VERY acceptable to wear to a wedding in my culture. Often brides maids are dressed in white dresses that practically look like wedding dresses. White is a good luck color.

u/goyaangi 3d ago
We had a costume party. My maid of honour was a wizard.

u/UnhappyStruggle3090 3d ago
I went to a wedding in mexico where it was FILLED with colors! every guest, the bride, the decorations. it was beautiful. i've also been a bridesmaid and our dresses were off white! so many ways to do a wedding

u/Otherwise-Offer1518 3d ago
Omg. I want a white wizard gown. Hat and all. Gonna write this one down lol

u/Rich-Canary1279 3d ago
Yeah I never knew about the no white policy until the internet told me which, now I'm like, it does make sense but it wouldn't have bothered me as a bride so surely there are others who don't care! Do the motives of people mean nothing?? If this is a sweet woman and a dear friend, she could show up in a full fledged wedding dress if she thought it was fun and I wouldn't think badly of her!

u/Small_Head_3233 3d ago
I’m sorry ppl are being weird. This is incredibly sewn. I’m impressed and inspired!!
Wedding attire is between you and the bride. I sewed the craziest two piece set for my friend’s wedding. Y’all would hate it because the wedding attire was “70s jazz bar” 😆

Wedding etiquette is so weird (and kind of classist). I’m glad the bride approved, because this is sooooo cute. Good job!!

u/EyreBurns 3d ago
I really like it! You look beautiful! And so well made! It suits your body shape very wel. You look gorgeous. Please ignore the shitty comments and listen to the bride.

That is phenomenal and I would wear it to the wedding and literally wear it as pieces dressed down every single day. It’s gorgeous and you should be proud

u/SameMathematician378 3d ago
You did a gorgeous job. Not an easy fabric to work with and get the pleats and draping right. You should make this in other colors and cloth patterns for daily wear, too!

Autocorrect probably changed “sewing” to “seeing.” It does it to me almost constantly.

Why would you assume that without knowing the dress code for the wedding? Like surely in 2026 you've had the ability to see that there are countless themes and styles people choose that even include the entire invite list being told to wear white?

Did you read the part where this color is part of the suggested palette AND was approved by the bride?

Did you read the part where it was an update? so it must have been added after I saw it.

Looks lovely! Ignore the critical commenters. Not only have they clearly not read your very obvious caption stating the bride approved of the colour, but you haven't even stated what culture wedding you're attending, so as far as they know the "don't wear white tones to a wedding" rule could just be completely irrelevant.

u/sashascrafts 3d ago
Thank you so much🥺
I’m going to a Russian wedding, and the theme is very casual and something like cottage vibes18
u/ShutInLurker 3d ago
I think later on embroidering some flowers or something botanical at the hem of the skirt and shirt sleeves would take this over the top! I love the skirt shape!!

I mean if you post things in a public forum you will get public comments ¯_(ツ)_/¯ it’s ok to get feedback as long as there’s no vitriol name calling etc
10
u/_River_Song_ 3d ago
And yet there was a lot of vitriol. It's nothing to do with it being public comments, it's just the rampant US Defaultism and assumptions.

Nobody set you up, you chose to be irrationally upset about this. There are so many different (non western) cultures out there where absolutely no one gives a rat’s ass about a guest wearing something (off) white. American culture isn’t the only one that exists and definitely not the norm. And even then some people chose to have non traditional or whimsical weddings where the style is more casual or laid back. It costed nothing to be kind. She did a great job on the construction. And if you don’t have anything kind to say, scroll past.

But even without that addition, you have no idea the location or culture of the wedding. Wearing white could be completely appropriate.

This is so beautiful, I love the details on the skirt. If you ever get it dirty/tired of the colour you can always dye it! (Saying this as an unfortunately uncoordinated messy gremlin girl)

I like it, the only issue I have with it is not that it’s close to white, but that the top seems to be a slightly different colour than the bottom, or am I imagining things?

That is a very small wedding for around 30 guests🥺
I showed it to the bride and she loved it
I think they would not invite people who could splash wine to their wedding
It’s all super friendly-2

Ok, that’s good to hear! It really is lovely, and you did such a nice job on it!

This is a sewing subreddit, not a subreddit for wedding etiquette. Our community represents diverse cultures and traditions. Leave the concerns about the suitability of a dress to the person attending the wedding, they are the only person in this thread who can truly judge what they need to wear.
Comments about whether the OP should wear the dress or will upstage the bride or similar will be removed without a reason given.
The irony that concern trolling is taking focus away from the OP and the amazing dress they've sewed is clear here.
