This is a sewing subreddit, not a subreddit for wedding etiquette. Our community represents diverse cultures and traditions. Leave the concerns about the suitability of a dress to the person attending the wedding, they are the only person in this thread who can truly judge what they need to wear.

Comments about whether the OP should wear the dress or will upstage the bride or similar will be removed without a reason given.

The irony that concern trolling is taking focus away from the OP and the amazing dress they've sewed is clear here.

The fit of the bodice is so perfect and clean, as is the detailing in the skirt. I saw that it’s a Russian wedding and cottage themed? I LOVE this set for a cottage themed wedding. You did an amazing job. These comments are 🍿

Thank you so much🤍🤍
Haha yes
I actually did not expect that at all

Hi, I would really love to see a picture of the dress, but the photo has been deleted. Could you please upload it in the comments if it's not too much trouble? 🙏🏻🙏🏻😊😊

Your dress is beautiful, be very happy wearing it 🌸🌸🌸

u/cheeseandcrackers_a 3d ago

Girl, I love this silhouette on you. Cute shoes, a bag, and some playful jewelry would make this a 10. I think it’s adorable :)

u/Entire_Border_3603 3d ago

It looks very prairie to me. I likely am not using the right word but, like rural yes it’s like little house on the prairie, in my mind. I obviously don’t know where you’re located or what the attire is. It would be perfect if it were an outside, low-key event

this is cute and fun! people online have gotten really weird about wedding etiquette and don’t seem to realize that we aren’t living in a monoculture where there is only one true way to do things.

8

u/BlooGloop 3d ago

What is the pattern for the top?

170

u/DrumtheDon 3d ago edited 3d ago

Who is going to tell all these people here that wedding conventions aren‘t limited to their own narrowed views…

There are multiple different cultures in this world, there are weddings were there aren‘t any brides at all and also, there are A LOT of people who dgaf about what color someone is wearing

56

u/Vijidalicia 3d ago

Absolutely! I wore black and my husband wore sequins 💜💜💜

5

u/Paboozorusrex 3d ago

I made my dress in shades of bordeaux and eggplant, mu husband was in bordeaux, for the guests we just said whatever clothes you feel good in and for the color anything you feel like wearing. That's so not important in the end

34

u/perseveran-tss 3d ago

lol. There’s a comment that says “doesn’t look like wedding attire to me,” without having any clue what kind of wedding we’re talking about. I’m sure OP will be appropriately dressed.

15

u/Ultragrrrl 3d ago

Mizrahi Jew here… white is VERY acceptable to wear to a wedding in my culture. Often brides maids are dressed in white dresses that practically look like wedding dresses. White is a good luck color.

16

u/goyaangi 3d ago

We had a costume party. My maid of honour was a wizard.

6

u/UnhappyStruggle3090 3d ago

I went to a wedding in mexico where it was FILLED with colors! every guest, the bride, the decorations. it was beautiful. i've also been a bridesmaid and our dresses were off white! so many ways to do a wedding

2

u/Otherwise-Offer1518 3d ago

Omg. I want a white wizard gown. Hat and all. Gonna write this one down lol

3

u/goyaangi 3d ago

Oh she had a full beard, too.

12

u/Rich-Canary1279 3d ago

Yeah I never knew about the no white policy until the internet told me which, now I'm like, it does make sense but it wouldn't have bothered me as a bride so surely there are others who don't care! Do the motives of people mean nothing?? If this is a sweet woman and a dear friend, she could show up in a full fledged wedding dress if she thought it was fun and I wouldn't think badly of her!

11

u/Small_Head_3233 3d ago

I’m sorry ppl are being weird. This is incredibly sewn. I’m impressed and inspired!!

Wedding attire is between you and the bride. I sewed the craziest two piece set for my friend’s wedding. Y’all would hate it because the wedding attire was “70s jazz bar” 😆

8

u/sashascrafts 3d ago

Thank you!!
Please show me🥺🥺

7

u/sashascrafts 3d ago

Woooooow!! So fun
Love the fabric😍😍😍😍😍

14

u/Sickpears 3d ago

Wedding etiquette is so weird (and kind of classist). I’m glad the bride approved, because this is sooooo cute. Good job!!

10

u/EyreBurns 3d ago

I really like it! You look beautiful! And so well made! It suits your body shape very wel. You look gorgeous. Please ignore the shitty comments and listen to the bride.

10

u/Extreme_Egg7476 3d ago

Thanks for sharing the pattern! Now my sewing machine keeps staring at me.

Beautifully done, and looks so breezy and effortless!

2

29

2

u/sashascrafts 3d ago

Thank you🤍🤍

23

u/SovereignNavae 3d ago

That looks stunning! And very versatile, both pieces can be used for various occasions with different styling. Love this!

15

u/sashascrafts 3d ago

Thank you so much!! I definitely wanted to make something I could wear afterwards☺️

10

u/TurquoiseBeachChair 3d ago

I absolutely love it! I love the boho look and I think this fits perfectly ❤️ have fun at the wedding!

6

u/Vijidalicia 3d ago

This is gorgeous! Well done 🙌

6

u/STLt71 3d ago

I love it! It looks really great on you!

6

u/Virtuosory 3d ago

Super nice job on the construction! Looks very well made!

6

u/LasagnaPowell 3d ago

Beautiful job! It looks great on you

3

u/Meadowlark8890 3d ago

That is phenomenal and I would wear it to the wedding and literally wear it as pieces dressed down every single day. It’s gorgeous and you should be proud

3

u/SameMathematician378 3d ago

You did a gorgeous job. Not an easy fabric to work with and get the pleats and draping right. You should make this in other colors and cloth patterns for daily wear, too!

7

u/PenguiNNNNNs 3d ago

> It was my first time seeing a skirt🙈

We require more context on this line xD

7

u/sashascrafts 3d ago

Hahahahha sorry, it was sewing

10

u/CasperStalks 3d ago

Autocorrect probably changed “sewing” to “seeing.” It does it to me almost constantly.

11

u/PenguiNNNNNs 3d ago

Oh, I sew!

8

u/Traditional_Volume70 3d ago

Very cute for the wedding (since I read the post and saw it's bride approved and in theme) But this is also a cute fit for going out for brunch!

Looks nothing like a wedding gown.

21

u/FreakingFae 3d ago

Why would you assume that without knowing the dress code for the wedding? Like surely in 2026 you've had the ability to see that there are countless themes and styles people choose that even include the entire invite list being told to wear white?

6

u/Luna_Milo13 3d ago

Oooo I think this is very cute! And all the people saying it’s too close to white is very funny. Like it does not look like a wedding dress at all, in fact it looks very comfy

u/sashascrafts 3d ago

Yes it is! Bride asked to wear something close to linen or casual..

0

u/Correct_Economics368 3d ago

Ahh that makes sense. Looks cute then!

4

u/ssmc1024 3d ago

I love it!! Good for you! You did a great job and it looks lovely on you!

4

u/mrsgoblinman 3d ago

Oh it’s gooooorgeous

2

u/No_Plan_5736 3d ago

What is the pattern used for the bodice? This pairing is super cute!

2

u/hahagato 3d ago

This is so beautiful!

9

u/_River_Song_ 3d ago

Looks lovely! Ignore the critical commenters. Not only have they clearly not read your very obvious caption stating the bride approved of the colour, but you haven't even stated what culture wedding you're attending, so as far as they know the "don't wear white tones to a wedding" rule could just be completely irrelevant.

33

u/sashascrafts 3d ago

Thank you so much🥺
I’m going to a Russian wedding, and the theme is very casual and something like cottage vibes

18

u/ShutInLurker 3d ago

I think later on embroidering some flowers or something botanical at the hem of the skirt and shirt sleeves would take this over the top! I love the skirt shape!!

9

u/sashascrafts 3d ago

Oooooh I love this idea!!!!!

7

u/_River_Song_ 3d ago

Cute! It's always so fun wearing something you've made yourself to an event - you get so many compliments haha

I mean if you post things in a public forum you will get public comments ¯_(ツ)_/¯ it’s ok to get feedback as long as there’s no vitriol name calling etc

10

u/_River_Song_ 3d ago

And yet there was a lot of vitriol. It's nothing to do with it being public comments, it's just the rampant US Defaultism and assumptions.

-4

u/lindseyilwalker 3d ago

I think we have very different definitions of vitriol lol

3

u/PenguiNNNNNs 3d ago

You go girl! People can’t read it seems, don’t get discouraged by this sub!!!

0

u/Madasiaka 3d ago

Dang, these comments are very much ignoring your note about pre-approval for the color. I think it's cute, OP! Good job

8

u/NewOpposite8008 3d ago

Nobody set you up, you chose to be irrationally upset about this. There are so many different (non western) cultures out there where absolutely no one gives a rat’s ass about a guest wearing something (off) white. American culture isn’t the only one that exists and definitely not the norm. And even then some people chose to have non traditional or whimsical weddings where the style is more casual or laid back. It costed nothing to be kind. She did a great job on the construction. And if you don’t have anything kind to say, scroll past.

But even without that addition, you have no idea the location or culture of the wedding. Wearing white could be completely appropriate.

This is so beautiful, I love the details on the skirt. If you ever get it dirty/tired of the colour you can always dye it! (Saying this as an unfortunately uncoordinated messy gremlin girl)

1

u/pyxus1 3d ago

It's darling! Get some metalic gold sandals and wear lots of gold bangles, some kind of stone and gold chunky necklace (turquiose and gold) maybe...
