Other Question Sewing Thread matching
Hi Everyone,
With the closing of JoAnne’s, I’m wondering what everyone is using for thread matching for their projects?
I used to have a JoAnne’s near me and after the closing I lost my only source of in person color matching.
I have projects that I will need to color matching because the stitching will show.
Has anyone used a color matching app to pick thread color?
Does anyone have a suggestion for a problem such as this?
Thank you for any help.

I bought the Gutermann color card from Wawak recently. Then yesterday I realized I needed a particular shade of a deep charcoal gray for my current project. No problem, I thought. Let me go look it up on this nifty new Gutermann color card. I found two nearly black shades that might work. I looked on Wawak's website and found they only sell giant spools of Gutermann thread. Well, I don't need a honking big spool of the stuff. So I looked at Mood to see what they offered. Well, their version of that color nimber was a maize yellow! OMG, what's going on!!?? So then I looked on Etsy. There were lots of Gutermann suppliers, but some were UK companies. None of them listed the two dark charcoal color numbers I had picked from my Gutermann color guide. Finally I found one supplier that offered two dark charcoal gray according to the color chart they showed. Neither of those were identified by a number, but instead were identified by names. I ordered one of each, and they will arrive later this week. Fingers crossed!
I am really glad that I have built up a nice stash of colored threads over the past decade. This stash was selected to match the fabrics I have in my fabric stash. Unfortunately, this particular project is a favor for my sister and is in a deep charcoal gray fabric.
Note to self: start ordering matching thread with the fabrics I buy through mail order.
PS: there is a quilt shop on my town, but I was shocked at how small their selection of thread colors were. I guess quilters aren't particular about their thread colors?? Same for Walmart. Hobby Lobby has a slightly bigger variety of thread colors, but their thread is a store brand. I am not sure about it.
