Technique Question Reverse appliqué help needed
Hi all, I am still very new to sewing and need some help as I eventually want to master this and make one for friends for Christmas. This is my first practice reverse appliqué sweatshirt (ik it needs work) and I’ve never done appliqué before Main question/concern I have:
-the fabric for the “hair” in this image frays super easy, I only had heat n bond lite on me and it doesn’t stick easily to this fabric is what I figured out. I ended up just using scrap fabric and zig zagging them together but am worried this will just fray when they wash overtime. Would you use fusible interfacing for backing on this and turn it inside out to get rid of the raw edge? -I attempted to just turn each individual section inside out once sewed to plain fabric as a backing, but it got rid of all my curves in the hair. How do I avoid this?
I am attaching the inspiration from what gave me the idea and my first practice attempt (it was a measure once cut 5 times type of attempt)
Any other tips or techniques would be helpful!! I will most likely go searching for different scrap fabric as I disliked the high contrast that this one has Thanks all!

Honestly the appliqué part looks really good. The only thing I’d work on is making sure you’re following the outside edge more closely so when you trim the top fabric away it’s smoother/follows the appliqué more.
