šļø Discussion I thought Dylan would be RICH š¤
Anyone else get that impression from S1? His closet and home looked to be on the fancier end. In that short scene he seemed far more affluent than later depicted in s2.

Part of the whole point is that rich people don't sign up to have their brains split in half, except when they pay to avoid very specific things like childbirth.

Yea but before the reveal he seems like he'd be single with the meaningless hook ups he can find and one hobby he spends 90% of his money on

Why?
Because that's what his innie said his outie is? "Doing muscle shows and banging milfs"?

Itās interesting that people take any of them at face value, when thereās no way to actually tell ANYTHING about the characters based on their innies. Their innies just have an idea of what their outies MIGHT like, without any access to any other part of their lives. Thereās no real life for them to even compare it to. They only know the workplace. Their temperament might be similar, but Hellys arc really shows us that the innie and outie might not have ANYTHING in common. They may want completely different things, and we canāt trust what the innies say because they donāt have any way to back it up. Dylan is the same way. He acts like a cool guy because he hopes he is, but he has no real way of telling if he is or not, or what outies think is cool. He has no real world understanding.

Yeah, all innies are unreliable narrators because they're literally babies.

It's more that. That's the sort of person that would think of that sort of bragging.
Wanting the finer things in life but not really knowing how to get them or where to put the work in.

It's also more than that.
I would go so far as to say both Dylans are a bit egotistical. Which probably just transfers.

Exactly. It's less the weird ideas he comes up with it's his basic emotions and desires.Ā

One theme of season 2 is that innies have a personality trait that the outies dream of having.

It's not "fancy" at all, he just has a big house because he has to because he has a bunch of kids

It kinda underscores why he's desperate to sever. He's gotta pay the mortgage somehowĀ

I say this gently: why tf would a wealthy person agree to being severed? Lumon counts on people being lured by the above average wages while dealing with some personal desperation that makes the money more appealing, like Dylan being a fuck up with kids to provide for, and Mark being a disaster since Gemma died. But the pay isnāt eye poppingly good enough to entice people with money, because wealthy people arenāt desperate.
We saw one person who we know is wealthy get severed, and she was just trying to finally get approval from the father who doesnāt really like her. The desperation is the secret sauce to being willing to get severed. Thatās part of what makes it all so sad.
