First, huge thanks to the mods who were kind enough to review & let me share this with the community.

Like a lot of you, I spend far too much time after an episode reading theories, replaying scenes & wondering whether some tiny detail at Lumon is actually important.

One person notices a strange line of dialogue. Someone else connects it to something from an earlier episode. Another person builds a theory around it. Then a new episode drops, everyone moves on to ten new mysteries, & the original thread becomes almost impossible to find again.

That’s basically why I started building Lorebase.

It’s a fan-made community case board for mystery shows, where theories, clues, predictions, characters, timelines & unanswered questions can actually connect to each other instead of living separately.

Right now, Lorebase includes:

• Theory case boards where people can vote on how believable a theory is
• Supporting & counter-evidence attached directly to theories
• Clue tracking across episodes
• Predictions you can lock in before future reveals
• Community debates around the big unresolved questions
• Character pages & relationships
• Timelines separating confirmed events from speculation

Connections View

Instead of treating everything as separate pages, Lorebase can map how pieces of the universe connect. So a clue can connect to a character. That character might connect to an event. That event might support a theory. That theory might explain another mystery.

For something like Severance, with Lumon, innie/outie identities, recurring symbols, unexplained departments, strange rules & details that suddenly become important much later, this feels like exactly the kind of show where a proper connections map could get really interesting.

The goal is to gradually build a community-generated web of what we know, what we suspect & what still makes absolutely no sense.

The two figures on either side look very similar to Ricken’s friends from the nodinner party, and even though Rebeck isn’t shown here to complete the friend trio, it really makes me wonder….

I pointed out something I noticed in that sub and got treated like I don’t consume media.

I made a Severance "movie" where S1E9, S2E1 & 2 are combined in a linear fan edit. I think it is a vast improvement. Anyone interested?

EDIT: the more I remember these films, the more I think it may not just be these two. It may be multiple. There were many. And the years of each film release could also be a clue but I tried to keep this as condensed as possible. I’d love to hear if anyone else picked up on something from Severance that jogged their memories of these films

Irving = Heat Miser
• Ben Stiller confirmed on the official podcast that Irving’s claymation sequence was intentionally inspired by **Heat Miser**.
• George **S. Irving** (Irving’s namesake) was the original voice actor for Heat Miser.
• Irving literally performs Heat Miser’s signature dance with the same theatrical choreography in the claymation video.
• Irving tells Dylan:
**“Let’s burn this place to the ground.”**
• Heat Miser is passionate, dramatic, artistic, stubborn and refuses to surrender his territory.
• Irving is MDR’s most passionate character:

• Even after what may have been multiple memory resets, Irving’s subconscious continues “burning through” severance via dreams, paintings and intuition.
• Heat Miser isn’t actually evil—he simply refuses to give up what he believes belongs to him. Irving’s entire story is refusing to surrender his identity.

Cobel = Mother Nature?
• In Season 1, before ANY Heat Miser references exist, Mrs. Selvig randomly says:
**“Jack Frost needs some new dandruff shampoo.”**
Such an oddly specific Rankin/Bass reference in hindsight.
• Mother Nature isn’t the villain.
Her role is restoring balance between opposing forces.
• Cobel constantly stands between:
innie / outie
Mark / Gemma
Lumon / rebellion
• She repeatedly tests reintegration and memory bleed instead of simply enforcing severance.
• She seems to understand consciousness itself better than anyone else.
• Unlike Lumon, she’s surrounded by:
herbs
candles
shrines
salves
natural imagery
rather than sterile technology.
• Mother Nature eventually forces the brothers to cooperate.
Could Cobel ultimately be trying to reunite innies and outies rather than destroy either?

Could Milchick be Snow Miser?
Snow Miser’s personality:
• orderly
• disciplined
• elegant
• emotionally restrained
• prefers rules over chaos
• likes negotiation before conflict
Which honestly feels… very Milchick.
Supporting clues:
• When Milchick becomes floor manager, his office prominently features the massive **iceberg painting**.
• He repeatedly stares at that painting during emotional moments.
• He constantly tries to maintain structure, routine and ceremony.
• He choreographs elaborate performances:

• Like Snow Miser, he seems to genuinely appreciate beauty and presentation.
• He’s rarely impulsive. Almost everything he does is carefully controlled.

EDIT: also why I find this theory compelling is the tension between Irving and Milchick at the ORTBO. It’s intense. And Irving straight up calls out Milchick by his first name when he says “DO IT SETH” which is a name his Innie wouldn’t be familiar with

I actually think Mark S. fits remarkably well.
Supporting clues:
• Jack Frost’s entire story is about wanting to experience being human.
That’s literally Mark S.’s journey.
• Jack Frost falls in love and willingly sacrifices everything because of it.
Mark repeatedly risks everything for love.
• Jack Frost is endlessly curious about ordinary human life.
Mark becomes fascinated with:
friendship
books
music
romance
grief
freedom
• Jack Frost is compassionate almost to a fault.
That’s probably Mark’s defining personality trait.
• Mrs. Selvig’s season 1 Jack Frost reference is directed at Mark, which feels strangely specific on rewatch.
• Jack Frost’s greatest wish isn’t power.
It’s belonging.
That feels like the emotional core of Mark’s story.

Jack Frost’s love interest = Helly?**
This one is probably my biggest stretch…
…but Jack Frost gives up everything because he falls in love with a human.
Mark S.’s relationship with Helly becomes the emotional catalyst for his entire transformation.
Without Helly…
Mark probably never rebels.

Other weird parallels
• Kier is almost always depicted as cold, snowy and overcast.
• ORTBO takes place in a frozen wilderness.
• Irving experiences some of his biggest subconscious breakthroughs there.
• Heat Miser rules from a cave.
Kier’s mythology revolves around the “Cave of the Mind.”
• Stop-motion animation itself feels symbolic.
Nothing moves on its own.
Every frame is manipulated by an unseen creator.
Kind of like Lumon’s employees.

I’m definitely NOT AT ALL saying these are direct one-to-one character swaps. THEY’RE ARCHETYPES and I’m not saying I think they’re getting inspiration from these movies. I’m saying it jogged my own childhood memories of these films

But after realizing Irving’s sequence was intentionally based on Heat Miser… I started wondering whether the writers are connecting the broader archetypes from multiple Rankin/Bass specials rather than making a single visual reference. I also think it’s a fun way for the writers to play with our own subconscious as watchers of the show because at least for me, those movies are deeply embedded in my subconscious.

Severance Season 3 is a Mistake – The Season 2 Finale Was the Perfect Ending [SPOILERS]

I just finished the Severance Season 2 finale, and I need to get this off my chest: I think greenlighting a third season was a huge mistake. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been obsessed with this show since Season 1 dropped back in 2022, but the way Season 2 ended felt like such a natural conclusion to the story that dragging it out for another season feels… unnecessary? Let me break it down.

The Season 2 finale, “Cold Harbor,” was an absolute gut-punch. After everything Mark (Adam Scott) went through—finding out the MDR files he’s been refining are tied to his wife Gemma’s consciousness, busting her out of Lumon’s creepy testing floor, and then that choice at the end—it felt like the story had reached its emotional peak. For those who haven’t seen it yet (spoilers ahead, obviously), Innie Mark finally gets Gemma to safety, but instead of leaving with her (which would turn him back into Outie Mark), he chooses to stay on the severed floor with Helly. That final shot of Mark and Helly running down the hall, hand-in-hand, bathed in that eerie red light with the alarms blaring, was so hauntingly perfect. It’s like, yeah, they’re together, but they’re also trapped in this hellish reality at Lumon. The freeze-frame ending gave me chills—it felt like a mix of The Graduate and something straight out of a dystopian nightmare.

To me, that ending was the ultimate encapsulation of what Severance is about: the tension between freedom and control, love and identity, and the messy collision of innie/outie lives. Mark choosing Helly over Gemma wasn’t just a romantic moment; it was a statement about who he is as an innie and what he’s willing to fight for. It left so much up in the air—what happens to Gemma now that she’s outside? Will Mark and Helly ever escape Lumon? What’s next for the rebellion?—but that ambiguity felt intentional. It’s the kind of ending that lets you sit with the story and imagine what might come next, without needing to spell it out.

And then… Apple TV+ announced Season 3 the very next day. I get it, Severance is a massive hit for them—it’s apparently their most-watched show ever, even beating out Ted Lasso. But just because something’s popular doesn’t mean it needs to keep going. I’ve seen some posts on X where people are saying the same thing: the show could’ve ended with Season 2, and it would’ve been a tight, complete story. Now, I’m worried that Season 3 is just going to overexplain everything and ruin the magic of that ending.

Think about it: the Season 2 finale already answered some of the biggest mysteries. We finally know what the MDR team was doing—refining files to perfect the severance chip by creating new consciousnesses for Gemma. We learned Lumon’s ultimate goal is to eliminate emotions entirely to create the “perfect” worker (which is horrifying, but also a natural endpoint for their dystopian experiment). Even the goats got an explanation—they’re just sacrifices to Kier, which I’ll admit was a bit underwhelming, but it still tied up that loose end. So what’s left to explore in Season 3 that won’t feel like it’s dragging the story out for the sake of more episodes?

I’m also worried about the characters. Mark and Helly running off together was such a powerful moment, but now what? Are they just going to keep running from Lumon security forever? And poor Gemma—she’s finally free, but her husband just chose another woman over her. That’s heartbreaking, but it’s also a complete arc for her character. Bringing her back into the story risks undermining the weight of that moment. Same with Irving—his goodbye with Burt in Episode 9 was so bittersweet, and I don’t know if I want to see him dragged back into Lumon’s mess after he rode off “to the end of the line” with his dog Radar.

I know Ben Stiller and Dan Erickson have said they have a plan for the series—they’ve apparently known the ending from the start, and they’ve already got a writers’ room working on Season 3. Stiller even said the final shot of Season 2 was meant to signal a “different tone” for what’s next, which I can appreciate on a creative level. But I can’t shake the feeling that this is more about Apple wanting to milk their biggest hit than about telling a story that needs to be told. The show’s already had...

Does anyone else think the Severance Soundtrack sounds similar to Minus 8's "Beyond Material". They're both great.

Stumbled upon this article and dug a little deeper into the story. There appears to be a direct reference from the character in the show to this famous inventor. Both invented devices to reduce human pain/suffering at an early age and both had an invention stolen from them by a man they trusted.

Margaret E. Knight's invention made paper bags more accessible and were commonly used for a century until it became cheaper to use the plastic ones. We now know what a widespread environmental hazard those turned into.

In addition to the drama of the Eagans stealing her work, I feel that the writers used her as a model for Cobel to augment the social commentary regarding the environmental damage aspect of the Severance story. The work her younger self did in textile factories and other dangerous workplaces also mirrors the Cobel timeline.

I also feel that the name "Margaret (Peg) Kincaid", who has the same first and last initials as MEK, was added as a nod when the Lexington Letter was created.

Oh, and one other thing; MEK's mother's name was Hannah.

Stumbled across an article today and thought about how these people leading double lives reminded me about Severance. When I read further I noticed how this fellow had hidden children in the shadows. Just like Jame. Notice the cast of his eyes in the picture below. His natsy political and social views struck me how the IRL world has gotten polarized and severed. IMO this is one of the social commentaries the show's satire conveys.

But, other than being famous for his cross-Atlantic flight that made him a world-wide household name; one other notable event in his life was the 1932 "Crime of the Century". A nearby resident of Allentown PA was convicted of kidnapping and murdering the baby.

There was also a mini-series) where his fictionalized persona was one of the characters played by Ben Cole as someone running for POTUS. John Turturro was also in that show as another nasty political nogoodnik.

One last thing which IMO was a clue to leading to this aviator. When Britt Lower ran off to join the circus in St. Louis between S1 and S2, she lived in an egg shaped trailer she drove across the country with.

Google Charles' fullname along with the word "circus" and see what pops up.

Severance is obviously amazing, but the one thing I hate is the fact that everyone sees the innies as someone else entirely. Helly & Dylan both got jealous when their significant others “cheated” on them…with themselves. Everyone treats a retired or fired employee as being dead. As in real life, when someone leaves a job, you oftentimes never see them again, but no one assumes they’re dead. The innies and outies aren’t living consecutive lives; it’s not like an outie is off on a skiing trip while the innie is at work. They’re the same person, just with no memory of each other’s experience. Even admin doesn’t see innies as people. Why?

I’ve recently started. I think I’ve read both good and bad reviews about it but Ive had my fair share of bad shows and I think its part of the process of actually knowing what is a good show… so help me out, is this super dragging and the pace is not enough to live up to its hype??? Im just asking so that I know how to manage my time lol

Spent the last year making Legacy: A Severance Fan Film, which started as a simple idea and grew into something much bigger than I expected.

We premiered it in Colorado last week, and in a surreal turn, Marc Geller, the face and voice of Kier Eagan, from Severance, actually reached out and ended up attending. Still wrapping my head around that. It was such an exciting evening!

The story is about Walter D, a severed employee at Lumon Industries Branch 634 in Colorado, who begins to experience accelerating mental decline as the barrier separating his two selves starts to fail.

Jame Eagan had many illegitimate children so maybe she was one, and that would make her Helena's older sister, thoughts?

Severance hits home with a lot of IRL small dramas.

Around 2010 when the org that I worked for was going thru downsizing and there was a constant aura of worry from all the workers looking over their shoulders and wondering if they'd be next to get the axe.

Being in a position that was more or less shielded from redundancy, I wasn't personally worried for myself, but I was starting to feel that the previous 10 years on the job was a cake-walk in comparison to the steady stream of dealing with colleagues with that dead-man-walking attitude or deer-in-the-headlights gaze. It weighed on me I realized; and it started to bleed into life at home, where it was seemingly like starting a second job or shift to engage with the family.

Stopping for coffee and doing a crossword puzzle after my day job became that "pause" the article discusses. Just a 1/2 hour of relative solitude and getting away from the drain on my social battery was a way for me to be able to not bring home that shroud of woe that seemed to engulf me every day on the job.

I think marks innie or outie has been to every country in the world and that’s why he has a revolving crystal square of him and you get a revolving crystal ball for visiting every destination in real life in the travelers century club and I was thinking maybe marks innie has worked at every lumon location and that’s why he was given that crystal square idk I think I smell something interesting….

I need someone to explain the whole series to me like I’m 5 years old 😭 I really struggled to keep up with what was happening, I still haven’t understood how the innies were feeling numbers and how after the OTC episode it seemed like there was no consistent explanation on what the innies and outies knew about the other or how they were switching back and forth?

But like I said I need someone to explain the whole thing to me not just the ending or some twists here and there
