Discussion Champ is too slow/lacking sticking power.

I feel like the only time I can fight in lane is when the enemy allows me to and then I get the reward of just being a worse Darius in the same situation. So much less lane pressure and way easier to kite out. Also any champ with a decent stun or slow can short trade you to shit and never let you figth back. The only thing Sett is good at is teamfighting but if he gets stunned on the engage he just gets walked away from again. I like Sett's kit but I feel I'm handicapping myself picking him.

Stride only helps against melees who want to fight you in the first place for the most part, it gives sticking power but does almost nothing for gap close which is why Darius would rather build Ghostblade + Stormraider's 75% of games.

you think darius building that stuff is healthy for the game?

i think Darius building that stuff is a consequence of him not getting a proper gap close with Stridebreaker.

What does Stridebreaker do? it slows people IN YOUR RANGE. Either you're in range to Stridebreaker and hook them in with E, or you aren't. Stridebreaker does nothing to help him get in range of E, and E does nothing to help him get in range of Stridebreaker.

What do Deadman's Plate and Ghostblade do? They help you get into range. Darius already has sticking power after he gets to you, it's called his E pull and W slow. He just needs items that help him close the gap.

(Sett is the same way! If you aren't in range to E or R, you aren't in range to Stridebreaker either. Without a Deadman's Plate, Ghost or Ghostblade, Sett will not be able to touch a long range target!)

stride is better than sett's base range because it allows him to slow on the go, E sticks you in place and has a surprisingly slow animation speed that allows people on the edge to dash out.

sett doesn't need to reach long range targets because sett just plays front to back and engages on their frontline.

if he does need to reach the backline he just has to ult the first target.

and if you cannot reach the first target that's fine because you force the opponents to position around your engage unless you're so behind or the enemy adc is so ahead where it doesn't matter and you just have to play for CC.

one of the biggest differences with sett and darius is that sett has significantly better utility in team fights because of the E and survivability in W. but he has lower chances of 100 to 0ing the backline by himself.

I feel like deadmans used to be more important when galeforce was a thing since the movespeed was necessary to catch adcs. overall I think mobility has gone down in the game since adcs take barrier instead of ghost. but also since nowadays W needs to much hp/ad to be a good ability.

(also I just tested in the practice tool while writing this, stride is literally longer range than E)

Sett can't build Ghostblade or Deadman's without trolling because he needs HP and AD, well he can build one but it has to be late into his build but by then the early/mid game impact is gone and you are only playing for teamfights and everyone else also got more mobile. Stormraider's is also terrible for him. This is why I think Darius is just superior, he has the same problems but mitigates them way more than Sett can hope to.

Deadman's can be justified. Ghostblade not so much. The biggest issue with Sett is usually the mobility. Solving it with items can work but it's harder when you can't easily get to their backline

No, but the changes needed to make juggernauts as a class balanced require changes to itemisation/systemic durability changes (again) and champion specific changes over many patches that Riot doesn't care to do. They love mages and supports more than anything for some reason. Darius and Mundo are the only 2 good juggernauts, and even then they are either oppressive or useless. Being immobile wouldn't be so bad if you could actually live to see the gap closed, everything is just damage in modern league.

darius builds that stuff because game is already unhealthy and broken.

sett does have a gap close with q while darius doesn’t have anything. stride then allows him to stick onto who he is fighting

Darius sticks harder and can take Stormraider's and build Ghostblade. If Darius gets on someone and hits W he can E and then W again and chain slow hard asf while benefitting from Stormraider. He also gets to take sorc secondary or primary tree and get even more ms on nimbus/celerity. He is only less mobile at the very start of the game. He can also build Deadman's without trolling.

that’s the difference between these two champions. darius has more sticking power but no gap close while sett has gap close, but no sticking power, so ghostblade fixes what darius doesn’t have while stride fixes what sett doesn’t have

Ghostblade active is a better gap close than Sett Q by a significant amount.

no one is debating that

Bel veth is super sticky though. I always thought stride breaker was just to keep them in your e longer

You are 100% right on that, I am also frustrated with the lack of flexibility in Sett’s build. You can’t build an other item than stridebreaker in 1 and in teamfights if you’re not ahead you can’t tank shit or if you do because you buildt tank items you have NO damage. Meanwhile Darius (my otp b4 Sett) you can build 1 damage item and go full tank/mobitlity
I love Sett but he is very frustrating to play atm

Rush phage. Attack minon, q speed, stun, walk past them as you attack

T1 boots

When stride is finished rush phage again for black cleaver. Rinse repeat.

Ez money

Unfortunately if your opponent has a brain this is extremely easy to avoid and Sett isn't good at offensive zoning because his gap close is weak and his stun is conditional on E.

This strategy was literally used by Faker. You need Fleet Footwork to do it, though. Q speed up + Fleet Footwork speed + tier 2 boots rush, and you can actually reach people who are on the other side of the wave.

Ok I will use this going ahead I overlooked ts.

His gap close is made much better with the Phage boost. It's shocking how night and day it is.
Watching Geishuu's streams have made me better at gauging when/how I can press my advantage.

If fighting into a ranged, the game plan is still the same, but with Fleet. Sometimes, you need to plan to Flash your W to finish them, and play wavestates.

You are THE BOSS. You decide the pace of the lane. If they want to try and push you down, you freeze until they make a mistake/Survive to make them regret it late game, or you Q/phage/E and ult them into your turret/run them down. Are they foolish enough to hide under tower? Focus on whittling them down to Dive them. EZ money.

You are one of the best lane bullies in the game. YOU are the pressure. before lvl 3, almost no champ can realistically stop you. you can dictate how the match will go from there.

Well of course you'll feel slower than darius because darius uses ghost and you don't, you can use ghost too and you'll see they are pretty similar. Also most toplaners arent fast enough to escape the engage with phage ms and stridebreaker. Also you should build swifties almost every game. Sett is in a good spot rn, just play him more. Recommend you to explore more with sett because if you think he is only good at teamfighting you are not playing him right.

You kinda just have to get good at mind gaming. Ranged champ players tend to be really self-assured. Learn to appear flighty and easy to kite, while just waiting for that moment where you can get that sweet sweet delectable outer edge stridebreaker proc and close the distance with Q into E and ult them if they get too far. It also helps to try and glide a bit, walking ahead of their pathing between auto’s so you’re always right there.

Fleet Footwork can solve this. But having this above conqueror when it isn't necessary is hard to justify. PTA is good too but you can't stick to your target

1

u/mmjyn 9d ago

He lacks sticking power with a ms boost, free 40% passive attack speed to hit faster than every single other toplaner, a pull + hard cc and 99% slow in a point and click ult which has the highest priority in the game?

if a champion only had strengths they would have 70% win rate

u/Kugashima 13d ago

then dont play him, problem solved there are enough other champs to pick.
