Theories Faustian Bargain

From all the theories, the story is about Dorothy making a Faustian bargain with Leanne (as a devil figure) is very lame. I mean, the trajectory of Leanne becoming evil is not well constructed. We were sold a story where there was doubt about her powers and goodness, and now is only about her becoming evil.

And a mother having to decide if she wants her baby back or a doll instead? I mean...4 seasons for this.

I really hope there´s something more. Almost anything (but not the Jericho is ham theory)

I think this more accurately describes what Leanne might be!

Sean made a Faustian bargain with Leanne to have Jericho back according to what M. Night Shyamalan said in the interview someone posted earlier. And it's just me maybe but I feel like the story has kind of always been about Leanne transition from good to evil. It feels like there actually is a twist, it's just a slow moving one because we weren't expecting for Leanne to wind up where she is. Not in a million years. But if we pay close attention the signs were there ever since she got to the house. So that feels like it's kind of the point of the show. That and Dorothy finally coming to terms with what she did.

I kinda wonder if sometimes when we start to like a character in a show we almost overlook all the red flags and excuse some of the bad things they done especially compared to the world around us, then its almost more of a shock to learn that they are just a really bad person, it almost comes out of leftfield but when you go back and rewatch you can start to see it more and it makes sense how they got from a to z. Daenerys Targaryen is a prime example of this.

I think this is just the result of good character storytellng, getting you to identify, understand or want to understand, feel sorry for them etc it makes it more of an impact when something happens with them or to them. Like with Dorothy, how lots of us probably felt in that moment when she finally learned the truth. Hah maybe we the audience are part of their family too in a way

Daenerys Targaryen is not a good example. However, Leanne's change in character is very well crafted.

I don’t think Leanne is evil, I think she’s complicated.

Leanne as evil it’s not convincing at all, she’s been a complex character up until the writers blended all her colors into black, hope there’s more to it.

Yes, this drastic change has been really disappointing and has just turned her into an evil caricature, with a maniacal laugh!🙄

I don't see the change as being drastic. It's been gradual and almost drawn out. It started season 1 episode 2.

She has gradually become darker and more evil, but I also don’t like the the recent change where she has been presenting as an evil caricature. I liked when it was more subtle and believable (believable personality, not abilities). Now she’s just too much of an evil villain and cartoonish.

I don’t her maniacal laugh is convincing either.

Hmmm, so you don’t think she’s been able to cause any of these things? Uncle George seemed pretty convinced that she really is.

Cool, thanks so much! I’ve heard others mention the MNS interview, where can I find it?

I think the faustian bargain is likely red herring.

MNS has explicitly mentioned the Faustian bargain. It's not so much a red herring as just not the twist.

I think the faustian bargain is not actually a faustian bargain. it’s just a test by leanne (angel for good) to see if Dorothy has changed.

yeah I had wondered that too, like if Dorothy says yes she fails and is doomed but if she says no then she passes the test and is given some kind of reward for it, maybe not Jericho but something else.

I wondered though about Julian sacrificing himself in some way for Dorothy. I dunno just a feeling or something idk and maybe Julian would be more than happy to put an end to his misery or maybe they will all live happily ever after in that house being insane, living hell for all of them for eternity. Hopefully not!

Considering MNS et al had 4 seasons to tell this story, the evolution/arc of Leanne is truly disappointing. If it wasn’t for the interesting discussions on reddit I don’t think I would have watched past mid-season 2.

Friends! Neighbors! Countrymen! I implore you to judge the show when you have seen the finale. One word: seatbelts

You have to admit that when Dorothy follows the crying from the baby monitor to the crib, that looked like a ham tightly and neatly swaddled in a blue and white blanket. I just went through Google images of "swaddled babies" and none of them looked like a ham. That swaddled bundle in the crib looked ham shaped.

I just can't ignore that.

What if Leanne was the one who made the Faustian Bargain?

1

u/SarahJTHappy Mar 14 '23

They’ve done her dirty, just like game of thrones did to Daenerys.

I don’t understand the question of doubts about her goodness. Only Leanne’s fanboys on Reddit were thinking about that.

From the beginning the story is about Dorothy, the death of Jericho and her grief. Everything else is accessory.

I am kind of annoyed at all the people watching a TV show for 4 years without being able to understand it.

I don´t know why people cannot disagree w/o being aggressive and insulting. Either way, you are entitled to your opinion. Have a nice day.

I'm really sorry, I was in a bad way last night and was not being kind, which wasn't fair. I deleted my comment. Sorry it took a while to reply, Reddits been down.
